I FINALLY got to see this one last night. :) Damn, it was satisfying. I see it as the exact opposite of the 2nd Matrix movie:

The 2nd Matrix was a really good story wrapped in a god-awful movie.

Freddy Vs Jason was a god-awful story wrapped in a really good movie.

I wouldn't have it any other way. :) Awesome kills (the first Jason kill is classic), awesome fights, and overall exactly what I needed to see.

Yup, that's exactly how I'd put it. So bad in every possible way but one: It's a hell of a good time! And that's really all that counts. :)

I also think it was the best portrayal of both Freddy and Jason in quite a while.

Stop trying to take the movie for more than what it was. Neith Jason nor Freddy won. It was a draw at best.

They probably decided on doing that after hearing all the buzz the movie wa getting. They're probably gonna try to milk it for all it's worth now!
