Official Freddy Vs. Jason thread

I know this thread is a bit early, as the film's not out until sometime next year, but I'm a huge Jason Voorhees fan and I've been waiting for years to see him finally whup Freddy Krueger's ass. There's information slowly coming out on the film on a regular basis recently. I'll just keep my eyes open and update this thread whenever I find anything new. Anyway, who are you all rooting for?

I've been a Freddy fan since day one.

The first movie I can remember my parents ever renting was Nightmare on Elm Street 2. They wouldn't let me watch it (I was like, 4) but I snuck outta my room, and watched it anyway. Every other NOE film, I saw in the theatre. I even had an autographed Robert Englund pic back in the day (I lost it while moving, back in 5th grade).

Sweet pic! I've seen a bunch of production pics from Freddy Vs. Jason, but I've never actually seen a publicity photo of the two of them together. Nice. I like how this version of Jason looks (more traditional, unlike the last two movies). I'm just a little dissapointed that Kane Hodder isn't playing Jason. However, this guy looks even bigger!

Anyways I gotta root for Jason. Freddy was cool until they started working the comedy in a bit too much, then I lost interest. Jason is a badass though, and is responsible for the best death in a horror movie (the sleeping bag killing in part 7)

Jason has to sleep eventually... and then Freddy is gonna fuck his ass up.

I heard the same thing about Myer's mask. That's too funny.

Jason's sleeping bag murder was pretty damn cool (they even pay homage to it in Jason X). However, all of the Friday the 13th movies have had to cut out lots of gore in order to make an R rating. It seems the ratings board is a bit tougher on the Friday movies, as I've seen lots more gore in non-slasher R rated movies. Part 7 (The New Blood) that you mention was perhaps the goriest of the series before the cuts forced by the ratings board. I've seen a clip of the original version of the sleeping bag death scene, and it's much more violent. Jason slamms the bag into the tree several times, as opposed to once as seen in the R rated version. There's supposed to be a bootleg version of 7 floating around with all the cut gore put back in, I'd love to find a copy of that baby. Part 7 just came out on DVD, and the annoying thing is that the director, who has all of the cut footage in his possession, approached Paramount about making the DVD an Unrated Director's Cut, but Paramount couldn't be bothered and just released the R rated version seen in theaters. How annoying... :mad:

Nope. Jason is pretty much walking zombie, and zombies never sleep. He was brought back to life by lightning in Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives, best Friday of them all.

I personally root for Freddy, he was always kick ass villian, and those dream worlds were pretty cool. I like most of Nightmare films, except the last 2, especially New Nightmere, it was just stupid.

I always liked Freddy more. The Friday movies just kinda run together, I can never remember what movie has what characters in them. My favorite is I think 6...the one where Crispin takes a corkscrew to the hand and a hatchet in the face. And Kane was the best as Jason. The new guy isn't as strong looking, but he is one or 2 inches taller. He looks huge next to Englund. I have high hopes for this one, and I'm doing my best to keep away from knowing too much. I'm rather bummed that they have one of the girls from Destiny's Child in it.

Thanks for the info. I bet that shit looks crazy. The worst part is, a lot of people worked really hard to do those effects, and basicly no one gets to see them. The amount of time and effort should necessitate a release! *starts drawing picket signs*

She eats that thing like a champ. I may have to rent these movies again. In the spirit of Christmas of course ;). My favorites are 4 (the last like 20 minutes is Jason going on a freaking rampage) and...6. The one with Corey Feldman (sp), it ends with Jason sliding down the machete. I think Tom Savini did that movie. I'd also like to see some movies that Rob Bottin did (he did the effects for The Thing).

I'll put the bet on Freddy here.

If Jason cannot fall asleep, Freddy will have somewhat of a harder time. He can talk the smack against Jason, however- I can see him saying "Welcome to prime time, Bitch!".

Having masqueraded as something such as an innocuous rag doll in Dream Warriors, he's got plenty of tricks up his sleeve. He's rather crazy... remember the time he slashed himself open? I don't think he has even the slightest fear of Jason.

Yup, that was her! The others were like, "Don't go out there!" and she was like, "Fuck you!". She opens the door, Jason's standing there and wacks her in the face with an ax! Of course, the close-up shot of the ax in-between her eyes mentioned is cut out- Jason just wacks her in the face then then hurls her across the room. Still a cool scene, very brutal, even without the cut footage. That was Part 7, BTW. The design of Jason in 7 was my favorite of the series- he's more decomposed than usual, you can even see his spine theough his back. Nice touch.

4 was the one with Corey Feldman (he also had a small cameo in the beginning of 5). And yeah, Tom Savini (who played "Sex Machine" in From Dusk Till Dawn) did the effects in that one. 6 was very cool, too. 6 and 7 are my favorites. The original was cool, too. However, I like them all, with the possible exception of Jason Goes to Hell. When New Line started making the Friday movies instead of Paramount, they started going downhill. Jason X was better but still not great. Hopefully they'll get Freddy Vs. Jason right. I hear the script is good.

As for Jason Goes To Hell, it was more of The Hidden ripoff then Friday the 13th, even though it did a good start, and some very nice gore. Remember the Tent Split in Half scene ;)

Overall, as a Friday the 13th movie, it was horrible, but if you look at it from a gore standpoint it was pretty good. How could I forget the tent split in half scene? :) I was just pissed that New Line Cinema bought the rights to the Firday the 13th series and the first movie they churn out only has Jason in it for 5 whole minutes. If it was called "The Hidden 2" I would have enjoyed it more. You can tell New Line regretted the film, since Jason X goes on like Jason Goes to Hell never was made.

"Sex Machine" in From Dusk Til Dawn...is that the guy with the gun in his, uh...crotch? It's been awhile since I saw that one (really liked it though). What has Savini been up to? For the love of god someone get him onboard Resident Evil 2! It could be just an hour of Savini zombie effects and it would be sick.

I saw one "Dead" movie...the one in the mall. That guy mentioned above was in that too. Is that Tom? That was one long fucking zombie movie. Didn't get really good until the gang comes in and lets the zombies go fucking nuts. People getting ripped to shreads like it was going out of style. My fav parts: *POSSIBLE SPOILERS* A zombie climbs over some boxes to get at one of the heros, and BZZZZ, the blade of the helicopter lops of the top of his head! Great effect! He wobbles around, blood flowing out like a bowl of soup, and then drops dead (again). And when the cops blow that guys head off with a shot gun. Done fast enough to make you go "whoa!" and not look too fake.

As a side note, I hated the first Friday movie. I really don't have a good reason, I just thought it sucked.

Jason X was made that way as to not interfere with the constantly-in-the-works F vs J. The writers of Jason X didn't want to make anything that the F vs J writers would have to base their script on. Sorta like a stand alone movie.

You speak of Dawn of the Dead, one of my favorite movies of all time. For me though, most of my favorite parts are actually in the first half hour, where you see just how fucked the world has become due to this epidemic. I have a fetish for apocalyptic scenarios, and I also have one for zombies, put the two together and I'm in heaven.

It's also for that reason that Day of the Dead edges out Dawn of the Dead just a little despite the goofier parts imo. The beginning couple of minutes where the survivors land their copter in the city and see just how destroyed everything is 5 years after it all started is just too cool

I agree. Original FD was good horror film. It had very good and creepy atmosphere, some great deaths(bathroom and teachers long death are the highlights) and decent story.

Looking forward part 2.

I'm also glad that Jason's hockey mask isn't like... burned onto his face in this one. I always thought that looked stupid.

Yes, I'm getting more and more excited about this movie. As for the mask, I'm glad they went with the old-school Jason look for this movie. I thought the "burned onto his face" mask look in Jason Goes to Hell was kinda interesting, but I prefer the this style better. My favorite Jason designs were in Friday parts 6 & 7. 7 was really freaky- you could see Jason's exposed spine and ribcage. :eek:

Of course, some nit-pickers could whine about there being no axe cut in the top of Jason's mask in F v. J (even Jason X had the cut), but since the original mask was destroyed in the end of 7, I don't think it's really that important, as long as they have the upside-down red triangle above the eyeholes (and they do! Yes!). :)

Where did he pick up that axe mark anyway? I don't remember...

Part 3, when the surviving girl hits im in the head with said axe.
Also, since that mask was destroyed in Part 7, he got a new one in Part 8 that already had the axe mark in it. the guy who had the mask was into the whole Jason mythos, so I guess that's why it was there.

In Part 8, the cook in the restaraunt that Jason throws against the mirror is Ken Kirzinger, who is Jason in F vs J. He also appears in the film AS Jason in two scenes: The Jason that gets hit by the cop car, and the Jason walking out of the subway car that gets tackled by Sean.

Yeah, I knew that the cook from Jason Takes Manhattan is the guy playing him in FvJ. He's a pretty big dude himself- he's 6'5" to Kane Hodder's 6'3". But I didn't know that he actually played Jason in a couple of scenes in that movie! I'm going to have to look around the net for shots of that. I must disagree and say that the Jasons in Jason X were the worst. Even though Uber-Jason is lookin at some fine boobies in that picture. I dunno, I never saw Jason X and hope I never will.

The make-up got worlds better when Kane took over. I really like the way he looks in 7, before that he looks more like a bald guy wearing a mask. But with 7 makes the time where he becomes more zombie-ish. Like an undead killer of sorts. And Jason looks totally bad ass in X, but the uber-Jason is just not right.

Actually, part 6 is when Jason became a zombie. He had a kinda rotting look to him in that movie, but in 7 they really took the look to an extreme, then toned it down for part 8 for some reason (I assume budget). As for how Jason looked in X, his normal design was alright- he looked a bit more human-looking than I would have liked- he had fairly normal looking ears and actual hair. But the uber-jason was, in your words, not right.

Jason X isn't a bad movie (it's better than Jason goes to Hell). It's actually halfway decent with some good kills (face in the liquid nitrogin- nice!) until Uber-Jason shows up- then it gets pretty stupid.

Still, the best Friday movies will always be the ones made by Paramount. They started the series and made movies 1-8. At that point, they didn't feel the series had any legs left, so to speak, so they sold the rights to New Line Cinema (fine makes of the Nightmare on Elm St. movies), who felt the need to do something "different" with Jason, and as a result the two Jason movies they've made so far has been horrible (Jason goes to Hell) and decent (Jason X).

Still, they seem to have returned to both Jason's and Freddy's roots for FvJ, since they can't really make an effective movie with them fighting each other unless they stick with the basics that audiences know.

Well, WHile I agree on some parts of Jason X, overall that movie sucked. Sure it was better than parts 8 and 9, but those are worst Fridays in the series.

Couple of kills in X were good, as above mentioned Freeze Face, but rest were really stupid(the fuck will all neckbreaking???), I hated everyone on that ship, and whole ending was riduculosly bad, and unnecessary.

Why the fuck is Kane Hodder not playing Jason??!?!! I heard him on Howard Stern a couple months back(maybe a year ago) announce they were working on F vs J. I can't believe he won't be Jason, he was teh best one ever. I met him at a haunted hayride a couple of years back. He had a really good sense of humor. The conversation went a little something like this as I walked up to get the hockey mask signed.

Me: So, how what was it like beating that bitch up against the tree in part 7?

Kane: You know, out of all of the movies I've done, that is my favorite kill by far. Something about it just seemed so damn funny.

Overall he was a cool guy, big as hell. It's a shame he won't be reprising his role.

Well, all is not lost. I mean, lots of other guys have played Jason before Kane. I mean, one of my favorite Jason's was the one in Part 6 (Jason Lives), played by a guy named C.J. Graham. Still, I think they should have kept Kane, but I'll enjoy the movie nonetheless.

Well, the release date is no longer Friday, June 13th. New Line has decided to release Damb and Dumberer:When Harry Met Lloyd then. Also, the trailer will not be with Final Destination 2. Instead the trailer for "Willard" will be attached.

These news suck. While I'm still interested in FD2, its too bad that FVJ trailer wont come out. I was looking forward it.

Shit, really? All the people that would be seeing FD2 would be interested in FvJ. Damn it. I really wanted to see it tomorrow. And what the hell is wrong with a June 13th release? Filming is done, I can't imagine it taking longer than June 13th to wrap it up.

A New Line source has informed Fango that the studio has set an August 15 release date for FREDDY VS. JASON, which was previously mentioned for June 13 and then fall debuts. In addition, New Line has slated the supernaturally tinged thriller THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT (written and directed by the FINAL DESTINATION 2 scripting team of J. Mackye Gruber and Eric Bress) for September 19. HIGHWAYMEN, director Robert (THE HITCHER) Harmon’s return to cinematic road rage, remains unscheduled but is still set to hit sometime in 2003.

Sweet. A much better date than June 13th, IMO. In June it would just end up being smashed by The Hulk(no pun intended). Nothing else of consequence comes out Aug. 15th.

After seeing Jason in that interview I must say... he doesn't look very intimidating. Kinda like a guy who has let his clothes sit in a garden for a few years, he's just not as freaky as say... Jasson in VII, that was the best.

Hey, I've figured out what I don't like about the new Jason look. You can see his eyes, it's a lot better if it's just two dark voids in his mask, it's just a nice affect.

Hey, there's new 12-inch Freddy and Jason dolls (by Sideshow Toys) coming out for all you toy collectors. Leatherface, too, but who cares about him. Nothing personal, he's cool, but this is the Freddy Vs. Jason thread an' all. ;) Freddy's body looks a little misshapen (nice job on the face, however), but the Jason doll looks great- I might have to pick that one up (the mask is removable).

Just a little heads up, this week is Jason week on TNN. They are running part 5 now, 6 tomorrow.

See, I think of this as the first film in a series, not the 20th. You guys like the "He's back, the man behind the mask "song from Friday the 13th part 6 by Alice Cooper?, that song was pretty cool, and I even have the video on one of my tapes.

I watched a few Friday flicks (4,5,6) on TNN last week, and even though they were edited (a lot) you get a real appreciation for quality direction. I like 4 (go Crispin!), but looking at 5 as a movie product (I'm avoiding any kind of story/plot critic) it's really bad. The direction is just plain awful. It looks like a student film compaired to 6. Bad shot composition (with one exception that I can think of) and some terrible use of zoom. Zooming in has to be one of the most jarring, abusive, and down right wrong "techniques". It only works well if you zoom in while moving back (which is a pretty famous effect). In 5 Jason would appear and then for the reaction of the person, they cut to another set up and then zoom in on the persons face. It looked terrible. 6 is worlds better. There are a lot of really well framed and blocked shots, my favorite being when we can see Jason through the window of one of the cabins. The camp councelor is walking out of the cabin, and just behind her we can see Jason following her to the front of the cabin. They timed the camera dolly and the distance of the actors perfectly. Looks awesome.

Actually, one of my favorite Friday the 13th shots is in part 7. This pothead kid just finishes banging this chick and afterwards goes downstairs to get something to eat. As he walks into the kitchen (it's night), there's a flash of lightning and, if you're quick, you can spot Jason standing in the corner of the room as the kid heads for the 'fridge. I'm suprised by how many people miss that. It's really well done.

Naturally, a minute later, the kid has a butcher knife shoved into his stomach. Gotta love that Jason. :)

Yeah, I know what your talking about. He's in the upper left hand corner, really well done. Very stalker/psycho move right there. I like when they give him moments of personality and style.

7 wasn't bad, but I actually like 6 and X the best. X did a great job of not taking itself too seriously.

As I said before my favorite Friday is 6 - Jason Lives. 7 is not bad, but was badly edited :(

I just couldnt get into X, I hated almost everything about it :(

Part 6 is one of my favorites as well.

As for the bad editing in Part 7, there's a reason for it. Originally, Part 7 was the goriest Friday the 13th movie made, and tons of gore had to be trimmed to make an R rating (it seems the ratings board is harsher on the Friday movies than other horror movies). I've heard that bootlegs of the original version of 7 are floating around with all the gore inserted back in...I'd love to find a copy.

Jason: Robert Englund revealed some juicy spoilers about the gore we can expect in the upcoming horror flick according to Cinescape: "Jason rips Freddy apart and he even tears off Freddy's arm, but it grows back. According to Englund, the new film's Freddy has a look fans have never seen before. "You're going to see Freddy's whole body explode open in this film and you're going to see all kinds of sick stuffcome out, stuff from Freddy's past, ick flashback stuff. There's not as much fun and games in this film. Freddy's a real sick dog this time, even by Freddy standards".

Man, I'm psyched for this one. That's good stuff.

On a side note, I just saw Jason X and was pleasantly surprised. That movie actually kicked ass. The liquid Nitrogen death was classic. :)

Yeah, that was probably the best kill in the movie. The whole Robo-Jason thing was pretty stupid, however.

That was my only big problem with the movie.

Well, He liked to break necks and heads, and that was fucking lame. Plus majority of bloody kills happened off screen and they only showed dead bodies afterwards.

Even though it was still bad, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Jason upgrade wasn't as bad as I was imagining it. Those micro robo ants were actually kinda' cool.

And why did that ship have giant vertical corkscrews all over the place anyway? :)

Oh yeah, and Jason's final landing place was pure gold. Great ending.
