So because a person has not affected you, they are inferior to you.
Not inferior, I just don't give two shits about them.Quote:

Which makes them out to be inferior, even if you don't intend it.
EDIT: Elaborating... if you don't give two shits about them, it means you care about yourself and not them, which means you consider yourself superior, hence them inferior.
Explain to me why I should care about someone that I have never met, will never meet, and will never effect my life in any way.
It does? Look at it this way: A building is burning down. In it are two people; your best friend, and some stranger you've never seen before. You can save one. Who do you choose? If you say the stranger, I'll call you a liar.Quote:

Because if you do, you could affect their life, which is not only something that makes you feel good about yourself, but something that the human race would fall apart if it didn't do. You could have been affected by someone and not even know it. A person could have picked up something you'd have slipped on and broken your neck, thinking someone might slip on it and break their neck. You could have avoided being mugged because a cop took the time to track down and arrest the mugger who would have mugged you. Somewhere along the way, something shitty would have happened to you if someone you will never meet hadn't done something. So do that for someone else. I'm not saying fly to Africa and spend your life helping starving kids. I'm not saying sell everything you own and give the money to charity. All I'm saying is don't support things that cause innocent people to die.Quote:

Obviously I'd choose my best friend. But this debate is not about a situation where a building is burning down, it's about normal, every day life where you won't lose anything by just not shitting on somebody else. It's not an issue of saving someone, it's an issue of treating people like equal human beings, regardless of whether or not you know them.Quote:

If you can only save one, it really doesn't matter which one you save, if all we know is that they are the two people in there. You've done the most you could do.
You know TK, I wish I was as idealistic as you. I really do.
But I'm not, and I still don't give much of a fuck about anyone. It isn't for your lack of trying though.
Well, I'm sure you have reasons for feeling the way you do and I don't know a thing about them. Relatively speaking, I've had an easy life, so I totally realize that it's easier for me to adopt that kind of viewpoint than it is for a lot of people. But, you can be that idealistic. It might be hard, but everyone can change their outlook on life if they try, it's only a matter of whether or not you're willing to do it.
Anyway, this has probably been the most interesting conversation I've had on a message board in a pretty long time, and now I'm going to bed because it's 4 AM. Goodnight, folks at home.
