Video Game Price Guide...

What do you guys think about a Price Guide for Video games.. Being the outragous prices some of the games go for these days.. Do you think its time that a Mag, maybe Bekett (Kings of the card business and originators of the price guide).. come out with a video game Price Guide..

Seeing what your copy of castlevania SOTN non greatest hit is wroth.. compared to its greatest hit counterpart.


the price for old Atari 2600, etc...

Or do you think its just a plain bad Idea.. that would ruing gaming even more..

I like price guides. While they tend to be out of date quickly, they're great reference tools. At the very least, you'll get a rough idea of how much something is worth.

Personally, I think it's a horrible idea, but I think all price guides are. These things inflate prices and will lead people to specifically hunt down games that go for a lot to resell them at a higher price. People that have absolutely no caring for games; kind of like stores, only much, much worse.

And then there's the combination, whcih is equally bad. Back when I did a bit of comic collecting a few years ago, there was a local store that would inflate the prices of some comics because of what price guides said, usually putting them out of my reach. I, unfortunately, do not collect to collect but to use/read/play what I buy. Hence price guides destroyed my ability to finish reading certain series.

Along with that, it can also lead to false ideas about how much a game is worth as I have personally never seen people pay as much for some stuff is stated to go for. I don't like it, not one bit.

all price guides attempt to do is reflect the current market price...if you really want to know what that is, you could simply use ebay, since it is that largest second-hand market place in the world...

Who needs a price guide when a majority of games fit under the label of "too damn much"? :p

Well, I think that we really dont need one. As Mech said, it might just make some people to hunt down more rare and expensive games, and rake in profit, thus driving the prices even higher.

As for current value, check Ebay.

i think that most games are resonably priced within the second-hand market...rarely do games go beyond their original selling price, and that is the only time i find it to be questionable...

Maybe in the states... here they're $90 a pop new, and range from $10 to $50 used.

blame your economic system...not the industry...

Price Guides have helped to make the Neo Geo scene crap, dont argue this fact unless you know who basically runs all sales of Neo stuff in the USA.

It also helps to stifle the comic and sports card industries....

Some already exist.

That second one is in its first edition and really sucks from an editorial standpoint. However, the Digital Press book currently only covers up to the TG-16.
