:) Actually, in a thread at a different forum there was discussion about the different versions of Playstation 2s and their lasers. Apparently newer Playstation 2 consoles have vastly superior lasers than the older ones, though I cant vouch for the reliability of what they said.

It does. but it does not fix all the problems.

Since I am a DVD psycho I bought a stand alone player after about three months of dealing with the PS2's shitty DVD playback.

Disc read errors are a bitch. Either buy a stand alone player or be prepared for a lot of misery.
