Considering getting a Mac...

Yep, I am sick of PCs. Too many problems, and too much shit to worry about. So, I am considering getting a Powerbook G4. Problem is, there's still a lot of fun Windows programs I want to use (Kazaa, Direct Connect, etc). Does VirtualPC get the job done fairly well for this kind of stuff??

Besides stability reasons, I hear Mac is great/better than PC for music-creation and such. I'd like to take a stab at that sort of thing.

Is getting a Mac a stupid idea? I don't have too much experience with them besides my friend's G3 Powerbook (or was it an ibook...I forgot). What I've messed around with is pretty damn sweet.

OS X is based on BSD, so you could possibly run WINE (the Linux Win32 emulator thingy). Check into it.

Hmm *confused* Linux Win32 emu? Would you happen to have a link to any of this, I wouldn't know where to start.

And would this emulation effect speed in any way?

Oh, and I kinda like to look of OS X ^_- Wouldn't really wanna change that...

Sweet. Thanks a lot, dude. If all goes well, I might have the Mac in a few months. Need more funds :) Unless lots of people say I am being dumb and give me good proof.

Will be nice to have DVD-burner a GB of RAM ^_^

Arg. Sorry, just ran across something that says running it on a Mac won't work -- the Mac uses the PowerPC chips, while Wine is written for the x86 (Intel) platform. They're thinking about doing it, but it will be quite a while before it happens. The only solution at the moment seems to be Virtual PC.

What all do you know about VirtualPC? Does it run the programs slow as hell?

Damn..now I REALLY want a Powerbook...

I don't know too much about it. The PowerPC chips really are faster than x86 chips at the same clock speeds, so that might keep the emulation from bogging down too much. However, I've never used it, so I'm not sure.
