DAT Recorders?
Anyone know anything about these? I'm looking to get a portable one, but don't really know where to start. What brand should I be looking for? What price is reasonable? Where to get them (probably online, I hear people don't really want to sell them in nononline stores due to legal reasons)?
Matt tells me I should be looking into Proffessional Minidisc recorders instead...should I be?
Any help would be appreciated... :)

I want perfection though. Can they give me pretty much perfection? I mean, I am gonna be outside recording lots of fun stuff...like grass and wind and other fun stuff.
-
It just depends. Will the level of 'perfection' justify a 3x hike in the price?
If so, buy one.
Personally, I think it's a waste of money, but if you got that much cash, go ahead.

I can get that kind of cash...
But will I feel bad afterwards? ahaha

Only you can know if it's worth it.
and only you can prevent forest fires.
I hope you ponder both of those mysteries of life.

I say try the pro minidisc route. If that doesn't work, sell it and get the porta-DAT.

Considering that I hold a degree in recording engineering I highly reccomend PMing me with options before you buy anything. w00t!
Show me some of the stuff you are looking at and I can offer opinions.

Badass! Thanks a lot! :)
Lemme gather all the links to the stuff I am looking at, and I'll post them when I get back from the store. Maybe you can even give me advice on Microphones and the like? I'll add you to my AIM list as well.
Thanks again

I am interested in these for the portability. I usually hate Sony though. I am not limited to portables if they are crap, but it would make life easier. The limit I can spend is probably 1200 (including extra Mics if I need them).
