Cel-Shaded Quake 2

I think I've found my Quake 2 engine modification of choice.

Well... its close, but simply making the polygon vertices black does not constitute cel shading.

What else does, then?

I always thought it consisted of black outlines and "solid" shadows on the models, and Quake2maX does both of these things.

That isn't cel shading, but it's a nice substitute.

black outlines are part of it, but arent necessary for the 'look' (like gc zelda, killer 7). the actual texture work is the main part, and that mod (at least in that screen) does nothing in that respect.

Eh, I still think that the main work is in the outline and solid shading. The textures are certainly part of it, but since this is Quake 2, it wouldn't be too difficult to make models and skins that are meant for cel-shading.

And yes, that picture doesn't exactly do it justice. It looks much better in motion.

not exactly Q2, but a few people have made some cel-shaded Q3 models that you can get over at polycount.

Honey is nice but system intensive and Snoopy is regarded as cheating if you're playing online. Shame they made his size that way because Snoopy is an awesome model.

And yes, I say that version of Q2 is cel-shading. The texture work just depends on the feel you're going for, I don't think that has as much to do with it.

I think that's how cel-shading looked when they first came up with it. It looks half-way decent; not full-on CS, but still good enough.

Not true, really, since other players won't see the model unless they have the file also. If they don't, it will default to Sarge.
