5-year-old a force among 'Star Wars' collectors

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (AP)- Five-year old Bethanie Tuttrup's black cat is named Darth Vader and her bedroom is packed with "Star Wars" collectibles. Even her bike looks like one of the futuristic ships from the popular epic.

Much to her and her family's delight, Bethanie recently was named Iowa's best "Star Wars" collector by Hasbro Inc. toy company, which makes memorabilia from the series of "Star Wars" movies.

"She can name every character from every movie," said Linda Tuttrup, Bethanie's grandmother.

Bethanie's father, Jason Tuttrup, 30, said his daughter's collection has grown to about 1,500 items and could be worth as much as $20,000.

Anyone see the SNL skit where Tiger Woods (Tim Meadows) describes his dad handing him a putter at five years old with a insane look in his eyes?

I watched the documnetary on the Episode II DVD on the special effects for the movie. It was basically a bunch of old guys lying to themselves that Yoda looked like a puppet and they handled the fight scene in a way so it wouldn't be "unintentionally funny."

This poor child is growing up around denial and lies. Flat-out damn dirty LIES.

Something tells me that papa is a StarWars collector too. No honey, its for our daughter.

Otherwise, since the girl was born, she'd have to have bought almost one Star Wars item a day.

I find it sickening that this girls faher is pushing his obsession onto his daughter like that, forcing her into a life of loneliness, as a misfit overly obsessive fanatical Star Wars geek. For shame daddy, for shame!

Her daddy appears to be a Star Wars collector with a bit too much money on his hands. Plainly the dad is covering for his ultra-geekness. Not to mention merely saying that your child owns $20,000 worth of collectibles looks bad. Both in spoiling the child, and others knowing better than to think a 5 year old girl is into Star Wars without an obsessed father.

Good point. Some collectors, like myself enjoy the toys and the films for what they are and many of us have very normal lives, have girlfriends (and wives), like to hang out and do things other "normal" people do.

That being said, clearly there is some major influence from mommy and daddy and also, why the hell would you trust a five-year-old with 20,000 dollars worth of toys? Lock them puppies up...
