Christianity is the oddest religion. A whole, big book of beliefs, and they're STILL known just make things up all crazy like, or take something known and claim it as their own.
Nifty examples are the "Well to Hell" debacle from not too long ago, and even All Saints Day, though ya don't hear too much about that one anymore.
If you want to believe that *everything* was made because of God's glory or whatever, go for it... But making up some "old" story about how this was the intention of the inventor is rather silly. I'm not blaming you, Atari, more like sticking my fingers through the holes the leaders of the religion poked themselves.
It's fun.
Because it's also a freedom of speech thing. A bible club should be able to hand out relevant flyers, just as a chess or spanish club would. Now if the principle was forcing everyone in school to get these, or it was the administration's idea...Quote:

Handing out religious tracts at school is a no no. Why is this so hard to understand?
But in the art of protesting, one way to do so is to do exactly what you're told not to, then officially protest against it. Sorta like you need to take the toll to prove the point about the 'wrongness' in what you're protesting against.Quote:

Besides, this is all pointless anyway, judging from this paragraph:They were told they couldn't from the get-go, before they even started. That's when they should've protested, going against the principal and then trying to fight is just stupid.
How many more times can I say protest in a sentence?
New sig - sorry Aurora ^^Quote:

Exactly - but that doesn't mean trying to do something to open conversation isn't allowed. That's how people learn and form new opinions/beliefs. Just because someone else says GTA3 is the best game ever doesn't mean their forcing that belief on me (well, if they seriously are, that's silly), but are trying to do something to trigger a conversation on the topic of GTA3. I think there's a difference between Christians who understand what you said (I know I do) but see the usefulness in a dialogue if the other person wants to be responsive to it and those who are feverent enough to think their word must be the one to 'save' someone.Quote:

Don't be fooled, these christian groups can rival the recruitment policies of the third Reich. My high school had this club called the "Rock" club, a club about spreading the "Good word" of god. My school believed in the separation of church and state, but these Jesus freaks were trained in the art of propaganda trickery, and found loop holes in the rules. They found out they couldn't spread their lies at school during school hours. So, before 8:00 and after 3:00 my school became an obstacle course for anyone who didn't want to be barraged with christ propaganda. As you walk through the doors in the morning you were handed piles of flyers and messages, and when I would throw them back at them, of course they have to go get all bitchy. It wasn't only students passing the propaganda, some parents would also show up to help in the salvation of the local heathens. They would blanket the cars with bible verses, and when I would tell them, "Fuck you and your god" did they let up? No, only more shit was I smothered with. It all sounds innocent enough when they want to "pass out a few fliers" but you give these people an inch and they take a fucking mile. Keep your religion in your houses, in your churches, and out of my fucking school.
I hate this shit.
...happy new year, btw
What ever happened to Purgatory, anyways?Quote:

First of all, my group never did anything like that, nor do we plan to. It would only make people angry.Quote:

Second, if they can do that, there is nothing stopping you from passing out athiest fliers or something. If they can abuse the system, so can anyone else.
I have never heard of this "Well to Hell". Would you mind telling me what it is?Quote:

bah. all this religious who-haa makes me sick. no one needs to be pimping jesus in schools or saying that he's the only one who can save you from a firey-afterlife. those are scare tactics! if kids havent found jesus or whatever by this point in their lifes, then your little crusade to save the lost is fruitless.
Well said, Lobo. especially the last line.
anyhow, good luck atariguy. you're gonna need it. but if you lose your battle in court, take the suspension like a man and not like a whiney bitch.
oh, and remember everybody-- Jesus saves souls.... and redeems them for VALUABLE CASH PRIZES!
Is that really your line of thinking? Shouldn't your line of thinking be that no one should abuse the system? You'd choose some huge, nasty battle in front of the school every morning (which is exactly what'd happen as soon as another group got involved) over people's right to just enter their school unprovoked?Quote:

I don't want athiest or agnostic fliers shoved at me anymore than I want Christian, Jewish, Hindu, or Pagan fliers. I don't want anyone trying to think for me, it's that simple.
People who try to promote their religion onto completely uninvolved parties are doing nothing more than insulting their intelligence. It's really unfortunate that Christians tend to do this far more than any other group.
I wish I could say that to every protest rally with a political agenda, but then I'd be insensitive. You, on the other hand, would considered cool, indie, hardcore, and 'intelligent' by the same people. Don't get me wrong - I have no problem with what you believe, but I do have a problem where one limit on speech is okay, because it's 'mainstream religion' but I have to put up with whatever messages I may or may not find uncomfortable with because they're cool and accepted by those who think themselves above the unwashed masses.Quote:

Why can't I believe what I want, and you believe what you want, and if someone wants to hand you a flyer, fine. But get the drift - putting pressure on someone just because you feel like it's your own individual duty to do so destroys the entire purpose and cause. It becomes your struggle of 'I'm-right-your-wrong' instead of just giving someone information. It's up to the other whether or not they want to listen at all, or if they do, what they do with that information. It feels like you can't get that kind of level-headedness from any activist group these days - social, political, religious, whatever.
