Anyone run there consoles thru a UPS?

We run our computers through battery backups or ups's so I was wondering if anyone here runs there consoles through one?

Living in the state of Florida lightning and power surges are a major issue.

I know people that run there tv,dvd player,vcr and everything through them here in florida.

I myself lost a vcr last year and had the fuse in my first psx blown because of a lightning strike. (good thing i was aware enough to take the cover off and get a replacement fuse)

Anyways I was just curiouse as to who uses them....

hey JMET, yeah I run my PC through an APC surge arrest about $50-60 and my TV, receiver, consoles through a monster surge protector about $40. Just make sure your outlets are grounded and you should be good, without that the surge protectors are pretty much useless. Actually if there not grounded(earth) then they "could" build up a charge which is not good.

Regardless though all UPS's that I have seen have a 3rd plug making it hard to plug into an outlet that doesnt have a ground. :)

BTW, I use a mixture of APC and Black Out Buster's

I have all my console stuff in the basement, which has one outlet.

Connected to a single surge protector:

Two TVs, one VCR, a Saturn, a SNES, a Genesis, a Dreamcast, a PS2, an Xbox, an N64, and a PSX that I'm borrowing. Oh, and a TV input selector.

Fried electronics, here I come.

yeah for some reason i was thinking you were asking about them when i posted then i realised you're already set...oops. Good topic though. I can't imagine having over $2000 plugged into an outlet without a good surge protector.

Yes especially considering all my consoles are hooked up and playable.

I have a daisy chain of surge/power strips so that I plug in one cord to play..

Im not overloading the circuit as only 1 is running at a time but if lightning were to strike it would like affect the entire loop.

O/T but I run my audio/video in a daisy chain as well.. :)

I use surge protectors on anything and everything electronic.

I've had many people tell me to plug one surge protector into another, is this what your talking about? I've yet to do it for some reason. Do you like APC the best? What A LOT of people get confused about is that they buy a cheapie at wal-mart etc that gives they more outlets but doesnt offer any surge protectection.

hmmmm. my computer is on a good surge protector, but the outlets in my room are only 2 prong, so i use an adaptor. I was worried that it wouldn't be protected, but the little LED lights up and says it is. So what am i to believe, you fellows or a little LED?

There is a HUGE difference between a surge protector and a battery backup..

A surge protector is pratically worthless..

Make sure you know the difference and at least run one on your pc....
