New Year's Gaming Resolutions

Most of us have bad habits when it comes to gaming. We either buy games that are immediately and forever banished to the pile of shame, or judge a game based on a screenshot, perhaps. Do you plan to overcome your weaknesses when it comes to games this year? If so, how?

I, for one, will never again dismiss a game or platform because of its country of origin. Within the last couple weeks, my renewed interest in PC gaming and the wonder that is Sly Cooper have convinced me that every region that produces games has its niche that is delivered with quality.

My New Years Gaming Resolution is to play one game at a time, beat it, then move on to the next, like I've been doing for the past week. It's just better that way. ^_-

My resolution is trying to refrain from cursing like a drunken sailor during extended bouts of Contra and Ikaruga. :p

Finally begin learning japanese so I can fully understand Eldorado Gate.

1. Devote less time and money to gaming.

2. Devote more time to Samba, DDR, and Beatmania.

3. Let the Dreamcast GO!

And yes, I will fail at the last one. *-neo

2. Beat old games I never got around to beating
3. Buy an Xbox and have tons of fun with it.

1- Play more of the Dreamcast games, I have'nt played yet, but are sitting in my game collection.

2- Play the RPG's from the PSX, that are still sitting in shrink wrap, awaiting some playtime.

3- Finish a game, before moving on to other large (hours) titles.

1. Buy fewer games - being more selective about what I buy (focus on the genres I like - FPS, RPG, Driving, Platform, some sports)
2. Actually finish the games that I do buy
3. Stop collecting video games - sell the games I will never play, sell the consoles that are boxed and never to be used again

One will require some work (I knew I wouldn't like Animal Crossing but I bought it anyway). Two just requires the time. The third one will be the hardest for me (I grew up a baseball card collector and my mindset is always to complete the set - I do this with everything - including video games).

Looks like I have my work cut out for me....

1. Sell the 2/3rds of my games and systems that I no longer have any desire to play. Mostly RPGs.

2. Block out the cries of you people trying to convince me I should never sell a system.

3. Buy a better goddamned TV. I'm stuck on a 19" mono thing I've had for ten years. I can't afford anything else right now, though. Unless I sell off that 2/3rds.

4. Cash in my big-dollar ebay games - RS, Panzer Saga, SF3, Chrono Trigger, etc. Not worth sitting on an easy $400+.

5. Ditch my NES once and for all. I bought it a few years ago while in college, for nostalgia, and I have to treat that bitch to dinner, movie, and an hour of sweaty foreplay to get games to work on it. I should be focusing that effort elsewhere.

Baron, 19" mono??? Ouch!:( Good luck with your selling the games. I'm sure you'll rack up some righteous bucks!!!!:)

I don't make resolutions but... I guess I would not mind finishing more games. I bought so many this past year (mainly because gobs of super-cheap Dreamcast games) and I'd like to finish as many as I can so I can feel better about buying new ones! ;)

Get laid atop a pile of rare and expensive games... might hurt.. but atleast Id be getting laid.

My resolution would be to get the most out of the games I currently own before buying new ones. My PS1 pile of shame needs to go down.

1. Buy no more than 5-10 games.

2. Sell games that aren't being played anymore. They need a good home where they will get attention. Even if the cover art is nice.

Cybr Gamr: Holy crap! Is that...Moon Knight?! Rock on with your bad, one of the best obscure Marvel characters having self! Moon Knight and Black Panther are two super cool, super under rated characters. I want to see more of them!

Resolutions? How about to buy the games I've been meaning to for the past year, but always make an excuse up to not get.

Moon Knight and Shadow Hawk used to be my favs along with Ghost Rider.... there seriously needs to be a game with third tier Marvel characters.

While we're on the subject of third teir super persons, Etrigan (better known as "The Demon") from DC needs a game!

No he doesn't. Do you have any idea how stupid a game with a rhyming, fire breathing demon would be?

Moon Knight it is!! Marvel needs to bring him back. I used to love that comic. I used to read Iron Man, Moon Knight, Darkhawk and Spiderman regularly. At least I still have Iron Man and Spidey to read... Found the image on a Freedom Force board (they have his skin).

Mine would be: Too finally finish up all those games that I started, but havent finished yet.

Play more games, and beat them, with the best results possible.

Complete my Japanese/Euro Dreamcast collection.
Get another Japanese PS2.
Get my MVS setup up and running.
Finish my basement, and give my girlfriend her kitchen back.

Don't buy a game for a good three months.

Not to buy games based on other people opinions.

-Finish what I have.

-No more impulse buying. Saying 'OOOH...Silpheed for 12 bucks. Now I'll get it,' isn't a smart-shopper. Buying stuff because it's cheap isn't a good thing. Not to mention buying brand new games that, even if they're good, won't honestly get playtime. I know I won't be playing Beach Spikers anymore - it's great, but no one around here plays multiplayer games. Stuff like that I don't need to be buying.

-Play less games? I don't know about this one, because I really see no problem in playing games. Aside from finishing what I already have, it's always fun to go back a play a fighter or that one special game you dig. Playing because I feel I 'have to' needs to go.

-Listen less to forums, websites, mags, etc. If I take what everyone says so seriously, I'll wind up being bent over nothing. Worse, I could be as jaded as the worst of them, reaming any game that I don't like from one screenshot, or because the game isn't as good as 'old school,' or because the game isn't innovative enough. That kinda stuff I could do without.

-Do more fanart. It seems like the best way to get known for drawing when it comes to anime/manga is to whore out the fanart.

-Have more fun. I've been doing this and hope to continue it. I remember some years where all I could do was feel gyped by every game I play. Last year, despite having games that I didn't like, I still had fun on one degree or another. Heck, I really didn't enjoy Hunter: The Reckoning as a whole, but it didn't feel like a chore to play. If it ever gets like that, someone better pry the controller away. There's no reason to put yourself through something you don't enjoy.

-Sell games. EVERYONE I know says not to do it, but there are games I know I won't play, and even if I do wish to play, say, Grandia, somewhere down the line, I'd rather feel that regret than having it sit for months or years before I get that feeling. I'd much rather have someone else get to play it feverently and have fun with it than for me to horde it.

1.) Stop buying RPGs Every year I go looking for a deep and lengthy game and decide to give an RPG a shot. Then, after like 2 days I remember that I HATE (console) RPGSs ALOT. I fucking hate leveling up, I hate the stupid worlds and I hate random battles.

2.)Find a Jaguar Won't be too hard if 88 can find his.

3.) Get Fighting Street Then my collection of Street Fighter games will be complete.

4.) Finish "815" A book about working in gaming retail. You'll like it.

I'm going to concentrate on getting a lot of shmups this year, feels like its the only genre that really brings tears of joy to my eyes these days.

And I'm gonna try NOT to pick up DW4 for as long as I can.

Here's my New Year's Gaming Resolutions:

1. Actually find an RPG I like this year (2002 kinda sucked IMO cept for Kingdom Hearts which was an action-RPG)
2. Actually beat a GBA game instead of going blind
3. Be able to finish a Maniac song on any DDR
4. Get Xbox live and actually kicks some ass for a change in the 2D fighters
5. Finally beat Jackal (NES) on my own!

hmm, I dunno what I'm planning to do other then wish my mother a speedy recovery (she had a stroke lately). I find this kinda funny that I was willing to drop by a bar after work, but then again, I decided I'd rather not put up with the traffic this time and worked on having my pc configured.

I guess this year, I'm gonna just worry about getting my car paid off and trying to get a few tech classes over with.

The Pile of Shame comes before all else. Sure, I plan on adding some games to it before the year is out (Shenmue II, Zelda OoT/Wind Waker, Mega Man X5/X6, etc.) but I'll do my best to curb the impulse buys. If I manage to find Sexy Parodius or Game Paradise on Saturn for cheap, I don't care, they will be mine.

My gaming-related resolutions are to actually finish all the games I have bought lately, of which there are quite a bit, and to start playing on XBox Live again. I played it for about a week and then took Mech Assault back, and after that just stopped playing Live, despite having Ghost Recon and Unreal still. I don't really know why. When Capcom VS Snk 2 finally stops getting delayed and comes out I will probably start playing on Live again, just to see how bad the TNL fighting elites will beat me down.

- Trim the list of games that I would buy new/at full-price down solely to those genres that I derive the most replay value such as: fighters, shmups/rail-shooters/platform shooters, racers, and online games. All the rest I will buy at reduced prices or used for no more than $29.99. Of course, there will be the occasional exception (i.e. Zelda: WW) but you won't see me buying Red Faction II again in 2003. This leads me to...

- Buy less, rent more. This especially applies with games not listed in the aforementioned genres.

- Try to trade-in or sell games you really have no business holding onto. Like Red Faction II.

- Play online. I don't forsee this being a problem if Live can deliver on the online fighters and racers.

- Try to pick up the imports you've been hunting down sooner rather than later. Games I've passed on under the assumption that I'd get them later either become very difficult to find or more expensive.

1) Stop fucking around with impulse game purchases. Play only games I'm genuinely excited to play and finish them before moving on.
2) Spend less time on message boards thinking about playing and more time playing.
3) Place a freeze on all game purchases until March, allowing me to save for a Gamecube + Zelda + accessories, as well as...
4) Clean up that damn pile of shame.
5) Get an Xbox.
