Rhydant, you are my hero. Unlike apparently half the posters you read what I said and responded to it rather than the just the first line.

I'm a mature (ha!) 30+ year old. I know what words mean and don't tend to use them without justifying them too often.

The Harry Potter segment was actually damn funny, in retrospect. Jeanne was saying one thing and it was obvious the clueless anchor wasn't listening to her at all. She's talking about comparisons between the PS2 and Gamecube version (ignoring the X-Box version entirely. Time limitations?) and the differences between them, and that the PS2 version has more exploration elements in it for Diagon Alley and Hogwarts (played neither, no idea how true that is) and the CNN anchor takes it to mean that you can't play Quidditch in the Gamecube version. She said nothing about Quidditch, never mentioned it once, and the anchor starts going off on a total tangent about it. You could tell she was flustered by it.

If I was on CNN once I don't think I'd ever be invited back. :)

Inaccurate, poorly presented information always has and always will bug me. The only reason I'm going on about this one is that A) this is a gaming board and of general interest and B) I was informed enough about the products being shilled on a supposedly impartial news channel (!!!) to catch the scent of bullshit.

Viewed one way- idiot people talking about idiot things that don't matter.

Viewed another- Major news outlet letting inexperienced, uninformed people rattle on about things they don't know about. CNN Headline News isn't the most trustworthy place in the world, but it's still watched by a good chunk of people for a quick news fix. I'd like to think that it conveys some responsibility on them to know what the hell they're talking about.

I deal with parents looking for suitable games for their kids on a regular basis. I've gotten some parents very happy with me (and some kids damn pissed) when I told them what was in GTA: Vice City, and I've got a bunch of them who actually listen to me when I recommend things. I'm not saying I'm an expert but I have paid attention to what parents and kids want and tried to find a happy medium for them both. I'm actually pretty interested in that middle ground, honestly, so it bugs me when someone just shills something based on it's media tie-in and family friendly nature rather than looking at it to see if it's any good.

Besides, Jeanne knew it was crap and stood there and smiled and went all happy-faced about the game. CNN can plead ignorance, Jeanne Kim had no excuse.

She's a hypocrite, plain and simple. This is one of the reasons I pay no attention to game reviews. Editors are human and can change their minds, praising or bashing something today only to say the opposite months later. When I choose a game, only one opinion applies: mine. Sure, I may ask for info from fellow posters or even read a review so that I can get an idea of what to expect. However, the final decision is always my own.

OT though, she really shouldn't flip-flop like that and be on TV. It reflects badly not only on her but on EGM as well.

I remember when I first read the Bio on Jeanne Kim. Before she got the job at EGM, she was an editor for a magazine like US News. From there, I knew her opinion of games would be rather questionable. She's only there for the money, as far as I can see.
