I gave it some thought. I think I would die for my country. If I'm fighting for my country, and my country's survival, yeah, I'm all over that shit. But if it's just war for the sake of war, then no.But when is my country going to need a draft?

Reagan comes to mind; he fought in World War 2, as did Eisenhower (I don't know about Carter, JFK, Nixon, Ford or Johnson, I'd imagine a few of them fought).
I know JFK was the captain of PT-109 in the Pacific in WWII. It was hit by a Japanese destroyer. He kept his men alive until they were rescued.
Johnson, Nixon, and Ford did not serve in the military; from what I know. Bush (Sr.) was the youngest fighter pilot in the U.S. in WWII. His idiot son was in the National guard.
You, Mr. President, graduated from the naval academy in 1946 and served aboard one of the U.S.'s first nuclear submarines. ;)
About the draft, I think it sucks. I won't go unless I believe in the cause being fought for. Of course, I'll be 30 this August so i doubt they'd want me. :)
Puerto Rico is also draft fodder? Wow...
Still, like Jimmy Carter says, there's not gonna be a draft unless there's and urgent need for ground troops. And, thanks to the Army's "we'll pay for your college!" tactics, they've got plenty of people to call up before they start drawing cards.
I'm still waiting for a clarification from Clash on this...Quote:

LOL, Reagan served his tour of duty in WWII making training films for the Army.
teenwolf: I agree with your assessment of today's military. I think they should institute some kind of 2-year mandatory service for all citizens, something akin to what they do in Israel or Europe. We need more intelligent, involved people in the military. What do you think?
200,000 of our youth have defended American values abroad since WW I, one of the highest enlistment rates in all the U.S.Quote:

Considering that there are only 3.8 million inhabitants here today, that's a pretty big number.
If there was a draft instituted despite my not wanting to, I would go because I would fucking have to. But, I don't think is a possibility anyway, it's one of the last things the military wants. Even if it is I will be in college soon and I doubt it will get serious enough where they will drag my sorry ass out of school. Unless of course there is some giant earth shaking war.
Most of the people who say they would go to Canada are most likely spouting off shit. You would be in line right next to me.
