Okay. So it wasn't the Giants' ineptness when Shockey messed up not one, but two touchdown catches in a row? Alright, maybe not. These things happen, and the Giants still got 3.
But it wasn't ineptness when Fassel started pulling starters in the 3rd freaking quarter, putting in Ron-worst-draft-pick-since-Ryan-Leaf--Dayne? Well, maybe. It worked out okay for the Jets the day before. Sure, they had a bigger lead, but whatever.
How about putting Jason-52-knee-operations-Sehorn on Terrell-best-reciever-in-football-Owens for most of the second half? Well hey, maybe every other player on the team who could run was injured but the Giants didn't tell anybody.
Okay, how about that 42 yard field goal, that would have put the game out of San Fran's reach? Bad snap, bad hold, horrible, horrible kick. But no biggie, they were still in it, right?
Alrighty, then the niners score again, and Owens gets a taunting penalty. But Shaun Williams can't control himself and gets an unsportsmanlike, costing his team 15 yards. But hey, there's a whole minute left, what do they need them for?
The next play. Owens gets an unsportsmanlike, and what does Williams do? Runs across the freaking field to take a shot at Owens to make sure that penalty's nullified again and gets kicked out of the game. But hey, there's still that big giant minute left, right? No problem. Sure, they could have started on the Niners' 20 with 50 seconds to go, but this is just the playoffs. Who cares?
Final play of the game. Bad snap. Bad hold. The holder could have a) spiked the ball like he's supposed to, and the Giants could have re-kicked on 4th down, b) put the ball down again so Allen could have kicked it, or c) at least thrown to an elligible reciever. The Giants' linemen could have not run down the field, which ensured that even if someone elligible had caught it, it would have been nullified and the game would have ended.
Seriously, full marks to the 49ers for not giving up and scoring all those points, but don't give me that "the Giants didn't lose due to ineptness" crap. The could have put San Fran away at least 5 times in the second half and they just fucked up every single time. Honestly, I've been a Giants fan for 14 years, but even I have to admit that's just about the worst choke job I've ever seen.
Am I bitter? You have no idea. That was total bullshit, and the 49ers must have horseshoes all the way up their freaking lower intestine for that win. I hope Warren Sapp breaks Garcia in half.
