Just came in today. Any word on it, good/bad? Did a brief search and came up with the name "Psikyo", meaning I need it, need it bad. Still, anyone can screw up and I hadn't heard of it.
It's from XS Games, the wonderful folks who, if I remember right, brought us Superstar Dance Club #1 Hits and Jigsaw Madness. With a track record like that it's an insta-buy.
But it does have Psikyo behind it...

It's actually out?
Sol Divide was released as a arcade game and later a Saturn and PSone game in Japan about five years ago. It's a side scroll shooter with (I believe) digitized artwork with a mythlogy theme. I heard it wasn't great, but should definitely be worth $10. *-neo

I played this a few years ago as an import, and recall being somewhat disappointed with it. I was expecting something more along the lines of Sengoku Blade, and SD played nothing like it. I recall it being slow (not as in slowdown, but as in pace), and having bad load times.
However, at $9.99, I may give it another shot, as the art and atmosphere are both excellent (hey, it's Psikyo!). But at the time, as a full price import, it was off my purchase radar after renting it.
Since EB is the only one that carries it, one could pick it up and return it if they weren't happy with it.
I'm enjoying this period of cheap PSOne Games. What's next? Dezaemon Kids? :)
This came out? Wow, I remember playing this years ago at the local bowling alley. For $10, i'm there.
If they're doing shooters, didn't DoDonPachi get a PS1 release in Japan? Just some wishful thinking here... :)

This is getting really weird with the budget shooter releases lately. Someone should hurry up with Gradius Gaiden.

Sol Divide is not worth $10. Not even for a PSX Psikyo shooter released in the US. Buy it if you like to support XS Games and the great things they're doing with quirky imports in the US. If you do, though...don't crack the shrinkwrap. You'll regret it.
Sol Divide is one of the worst games I've ever played. Leave it be.

$10 for Sol Divide? Maybe. I did regret picking the import one up for $60, however. If only they would've used Psikyo's original boxart.
Just don't expect your usual Psikyo shmup from this one- IIRC, this is more of a close quarters game. Before purchasing it, I had expected a Wings of Wor type blastathon but that wasn't quite what it turned out to be.
It seems like the way to go here is to spend more time fighting the enemies with melee attacks.
This XS is a company to watch... here's hoping they get DDP on the US PS one.
Well, Even though Saturn version is not the best shooter ever I liked it. $10 for a shooter is a good deal.
Fucking sweet! Saves me the trouble of getting the import. I had no idea the game was even coming out here to begin with.
Did a bit of poking around on XS Games, the best I could come up with is that they're a subsidiary of Jack Of All Games, and that's hardly a solid lead. More like a footnote under the Publisher section on the EB website.
I was hoping to track down a website, see what other plans they had, but the best I could come up with was an under construction site, check back for more info, maybe.
Ah well, guess I'll just have to be surprised. Still, if they're doing quirky imports I've got a list of stuff I'd love to see. Vib Ribbon, Gunner's Heaven, DDP, the Gunnm/Battle Angel game, etc.

Hey James, would you mind looking at the back of the case since you have access to the game and making sure it's "the" Sol Divide. I'd hate to burn my hard earned $9.99 on a budget "fighting game" (according to ebworld). After a bit of Google searching, that still isn't clear for me, I saw nothing on this release.
I looked at the case while at EB today... It is the real deal
Too bad I already have the Saturn version of it...It would be nice to play it in English again but I'm not fiending that bad

Yeah, it's definitely The One True Sol Divide. The EBWorld write-up is utterly without clue, which doesn't really come as a surprise.

The only place I've ever seen it (and they did stock a healthy amount) was at Toys R Us. I'm guessing this is a middle-America release so look around at Wal Mart, Toys R Us, Comp USA...Quote:

Wow, how'd I miss Gekioh Shooting King? There was probably a thread on it and everything, I think I'm slipping.

Gekioh is a great little shmup for a measly $10. Of course, since I live in the backyard of Bumfuk Egypt, I had to go to the opposite side of the island (about a 2 1/2 hour drive) to get the only copy Babbages had left (yes, it's still Babbages. I told you we were slow).
I would have simply bought it from Gamestop.com but they can sit on a cactus and rotate for all I care. $15 shipping? Screw that.
Target Stores have the XS games including Sol Divide in boxes near the checkouts.

Worth 10? Maybe for being a novelty, because it is shooter. But not for quality, the game sux. Controls are horrible.
My god, yes. If you want to change the default layout, good luck! There's some kind of glitch in the game where what you pick at the options screen isn't what the game gives you when you start playing. After about an hour of trial-and-error, I finally figured out what one needs to select to get a more player-friendly layout.Quote:
