Official OZ last season thread...

OZ is one amazing show- unique, original, brutal, and totally unpredictable. The final season started last night- the show hasn't been cancelled, but the creator feels that the show has run its course and has decided to wrap everything up this season. There's a lot of threads to be tied up, so this season promises to be pretty exciting. It's just weird that, after how long the show has been on, after these eight last shows air that it'll be all over. Anyway, did anyone else catch the season premiere last night on HBO? Overall, I thought it was a bit dissapointing, though I'm sure things will pick up as the season progresses. Here's my run-down of what was good and bad (SPOILERS):




THE BAD:


1. Okay, Peter Shebetta now has magical powers and can give people the "Evil Eye" and kill them? And now he's using this power against the people that O'Riley loves (starting with the kindly priest) because he found out he killed his father way back in season one? And he's NOT using it against the numerous guys that have ass-raped him? I assume he's going after Cyril and Dr. nathan next with that eye of his. This is too damn goofy. First Luke Perry is Jesus and now this. And how could Peter Shebetta have found out from a "reliable source" about O'Riley and Adebisi putting the ground up glass in Nino Shebetta's food, since they were the only ones doing it, they didn't tell anyone and Adebisi's dead? Stupid.

2. Beecher suddenly, out of nowhere, has another, secret son? WTF?!? Turns out this kid was taken care of by his wife's parents. Why wouldn't his wife have kept him (until she died, at any rate)? Whatever. Plus, the kid's 6 years old- OZ takes place in the present day, and Beecher was sent to jail in 1997. What, did he knock up his wife on the day he was sentanced? Please.

3. Guy blows Shillinger and spits out a mouthful of cum. EEEWWWWWWW. Oz is a great show and all but man, the gay stuff is gross. I know it's in prison and all, but...

4. O'Riley bathes the dead priest. I know he did it because the priest was his friend and that, when Jesus was taken off the cross, his followers bathed him and all, but watching O'Riley rub down a pasty, fat naked man with a washcloth was very icky. Never mind the fact that the priest had pooped his drawers when he died...


THE GOOD:

1. Guy kills Beechers Dad. Good, with all the crazy stuff that's happened to Beecher while in OZ (raped and branded by Shillinger, Wife kills herself, kids kidnapped, son killed and his hand mailed to him, turns gay, etc.), hopefully he'll finally snap and go insane again. I'm sick that he turned into a pussy again.

2. Kindly Priest dies. Good. O'Riley is the man and his friendship with this priest was threatening to make him "nice". Now that he's dead Ryan can continue to be his back-stabbing, scheming, bad-ass self.

3. Shillinger gets out of solitary. Cool, lots of people are gonna die now. Or get raped. Eeew. Shillinger is cool when he isn't raping people. Anyway, the final showdown with Beecher and Shillinger is coming...you know one of these guys is gonna die.

4. Alverez gets out of solitary. Cool, maybe he won't smear poop all over the walls of his cell anymore. He's a cool character.

5. Hill's indeed dead, but still narrating from beyond the grave. Plus, it looks like he's bringing in another dead OZ inmate per episode to help out. This week it was Jefferson Keene, who was put to death back in Season 1. Hmm...judging from how he looks now, I guess you DO age when you're dead... ;) I wonder who Hill will bring back next week? Adebisi?


Well, I can't wait to see how this show ends. I know I'll be watching every Sunday at 9PM.

Oh man. I wish I had HBO. I really liked Oz when I had it, but I missed out on last 2 seasons :(

I hope it will all come to dvd eventually, so I can buy it, and finally watch it.

Well, Season 1's out on DVD now, and Season 2 is out tomorrow (Jan. 7). They're both nice 3-disc sets with lots of cool extras. Season 1 had running commentary, deleted scenes, a music video, etc. Not sure what Season 2's extras are gonna be. Guess I'll find out tomorrow when I pick it up. The sets are both $39.99 at Best Buy.

I do have first 3 seasons recorded on tapes in my collection, but I will be updating those with dvds.

i watch the show on and off...so I really dont know much about it...
but..

I do have one question

Is everyone from Law and Order : Special Victims Unit on that show?

Um...no. Maybe I will be proven wrong as the season goes on, but Schibetta doesn't literally have magical powers. When he says he is going to hurt the people O'Reiley holds dearest, he meant he's going to have them killed, to get revenge for Nino's death. I could be wrong, but I really don't think they would make Oz THAT stupid...*remembers the pill that caused prisoners to age*.........ok well hopefully they don't make it even stupider at least :)

I love this show though, well the earlier seasons. It fell off after the first half of Season 4 in my opinion, but it's still very entertaining, and I am definately excited for these last episodes. What I am hoping is we see the return of Crazy Beecher when he finds out about his father's death. Also, I am hoping they end this season with another riot like in Season 1. And for fuck's sake focus a bit more on the Sicilians again, stop having them always in the background. Urbano was a badass in the few episodes we got to see him in so far, and with just passing mention of him in this premier I am hoping he isn't off the show. We already know he isn't on Death Row for sure, although how he got away with stabbing Hill right in the middle of everyone I don't know. A cool thing they did was have Jefferson Keane be the "host" along with Hill this episode. What some people are saying is every episode of this final season a deceased inmate from one of the previous seasons will host along with Hill. I'm hoping to see Adebisi make one last appearance...

*EDIT* Well I just read your post Dolemite and I realize I said alot of what you did. I stopped reading and replied immediately when I read your comment about Schibetta's "magical powers", I am hoping I don't get proven wrong on that being a crock of shit.

Actually, it's the opposite. Beecher DID start out with 3 kids. The stuff you are saying about this "sudden appearance" of a third kid, is the same thing people said about the sudden disappearance of him. In the earlier episodes he mentions 3 kids, and the first time they come to see him I believe the baby is with them. Quite a few people noticed this, so it looks like they decided to get that straightened out. As for the time period, like McManus said sometime in this season's premier, it is six months "to the day" of when Hill was stabbed...LAST YEAR. So the time period makes sense. He knocked her up right before getting arrested I would assume.

I want Beecher to finally get paroled and make it out of prison... :(

It was kind of hard to tell which it was- a threat of having people killed, or his "magical powers". Or perhaps he's going to have them killed and make it look like he has magical powers to freak O'Riley out. But remember when Shebetta was telling O'Riley about his grandmother and how she could use her 'Evil Eye' to 'get' people? Suddenly the priest falls dead of an aneurysm. To be honest, I really, really hope that I'm wrong too, but with some of the shit that's happened on this show, you can't blame me for thinking that Shebetta does indeed have magical powers. After all, remember when Luke Perry ordered Jaz Hoyt to kill that one guy by appearing to him in spirit form? That was pretty gay. How about when Adebisi went nuts and started having visions of African witch doctors twirling fire batons around in Em City? All sorts of fruity stuff happens on this show.

OOOHHHHH.....so there WAS another kid to begin with! I had forgotten all about that baby in that one episode. It must have been in season 2 that this happened, right? Thanks for the info. But you have to admit, after Luke Perry 'dissapeared', I wouldn't be suprised if Beecher had a phantom kid as well.



You know, I was thinking...OZ must be the shittiest prison in America. After all, if this many prisoners were constantly killed in any real jail, the place would be closed down in a second. :)

A bunch of them are on there, yeah. The same guy created both shows, I believe. Beecher, Shillinger, Keller, O'Riley, among others, have all been on Law and Order at some point.



Here's a funny story- I once saw a performance of 'Hamlet' in NYC with the crazy guy in solitary confinement that keeps saying "Peter Marie" over and over playing Polonius. It was a tiny theatre where the actors were right in your face, and at one point the guy was standing right next to me while a scene was playing out. I couldn't resist- I whispered "Peter Marie" to him and he started cracking up. Hee hee!

Yeah I know, I just am also hoping that isn't the case. But like I said earlier, after the pill that makes prisoners age, and Father Clutier's disappearance, anything can happen. I'm just hoping they stick to reality a bit more this season. Funny shit about whispering Peter Marie to that guy though
