I have to agree. This sure as hell didn't feel like the second-to-last episode ever. It doesn't feel like it's building up to anything; it felt like a run-of-the-mill episode. I really think the last episode next week is going to suck...Quote:

THE GOOD: Um...can't think of a damn thing. Oh, here's one. Who's side is Keller on? Seems he's playing both sides of the fence. I'm interested in seeing where this storyline heads, but with one 100 minute episode left, there's not much that can happen. All I have to say is that, if Oz ends without either Beecher of Shillinger dead, then it's the worse ending for any series ever. Oh, and Poet's credit card scam sounds pretty cool, too.
THE BAD: Everything. Where to start?
GLYNN DIES: Okay, when Said died early in the series, it was a total "OH, SHIT!" moment. However, they've killed so many people this season left and right that it's totally de-sensitized the viewers. Glynn, one of the major characters that has been with the series since day one, dies, and it was no big deal at all. My girlfriend and I just didn't care, and I'm a huge Ernie Hudson fan. The killings have no consequence anymore. When Dino Ortilani died in the first season, they shut down the prison, conducted an investigation. questioned everyone...now people die and are instantly forgotten. Why should we care anymore?
GLYNN WAS BANGING McMANUS' EX WIFE: Uh, WHAT? When the fuck did this start? Did I miss something? When she kissed him, I was like, "Um, I guess they've become good friends since she started working there..." but they they start making out! That really felt thrown in.
OMAR WHITE DIES: You know, it figures. I used to like Cyril but this season he's really gotten on my nerves. Then he doesn't die. Meanwhile, I've hated Omar White since day one. In the last few episodes, however, he's grown on me, and then he gets killed, and for no good reason. Bullshit...
TOO MANY NEW CHARACTERS: Okay, there was the hash brownie guy, and he dies. Then the acid-throwing gay guy that wants to take over Oz with his drugs. There's so much to tie up and they waste time bringing in new guys like this? Please.
O'RILEY'S DAD IS IN OZ: Um, this is a goofy plot twist. Now the whole family's in Oz. What's next, O'Riley's Grandmother?
Unless a mircle happens, the last episode's gonna suck. At least we seem to find out what happened to Luke Perry next week...
I should slap Tom Fontana right in the mouth at the book signing on Tuesday... ;)
That's the only one I disagree with, I thought Omar White was badass when he first came to Oz, he shanked people left and right for no real reason. I didn't like him in Season 5 and now this, he dies after talking about some bullshit galaxy ending crap that is just stupid and doesn't matter at all. He should have went out in a blaze of violence alongside poet and the gangsters in a war with the Italians over the drug trade. But of course that can't happen because it would you know, fit in more with previous seasons and be entertaining. Instead he gets killed by some complete dumbass of a character that needs to just die already.Quote:

Looking at the previews for next episode I saw a flash of Querns. In case you don't remember that's the guy that took over Oz for a time, and didn't give a shit about the drugs and all. It was cause of him taking over Oz that the first part of season 4 was an excellent season, we got Adebisi ruling over everyone and O'Reily and Keller working together. What I am guessing is he becomes warden since he was warden at a different prison after being fired from Em City. Tom Fontana said he is gonna end the season with us wanting more and that's how he's gonna do it I bet, by letting us know that we got to sit through an overall lousy season, but at least we can know that it all gets better from there now that Querns is running things http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/i...ons/icon24.gif
I can already see what's gonna happen with the finale, or at least some of it. Beecher and Schillinger are gonna be the enemies in the play and Beecher will have a chance to use a real knife instead of a prop one in some kind of scene where he stabs Schillingers character in the play. The thing is whether he does or not, I'm not sure I'm even gonna give a shit. This episode just kind of felt like a parody of Oz, and it's not looking much better for next week.
And I guess I might as well give up hope for Adebisi narrating an episode since we didn't get any this episode.
One the guy that plays Urbano in Ace Ventura, I saw him in it a couple days ago, he plays some really small part of a reporter with one line. I thought it was pretty funny. The guy that plays Nappa's in it also as Ace's landlord...
Yeah, so am I, that was definitely the most riveting part of the episode when he had beecher in the stage room with the two fake shanks. Man, I really thought for sure one of them was gonna bite it there...and I love how their setting it up. Who is he planning on double-crossing...Beecher or Schillinger?Quote:

I just KNOW that one, two, or all three of them are going to die in the finale, it just HAS to happen, I know it will.
Really, Leo has always been a major player in Oz's history. WTF happened with that young, spunky, black secretary they introduced last season? I don't remember her getting killed or anything, could they just not re-sign her to act for the final season and Fontana subsequently wrote her out of the script? I thought SHE was Leo's love interest! Then they pull this crap with McManus' ex out of freaking NOWHERE then kill the guy off in an amazingly un-dramatic manner.Quote:

When the metaphysical bullshit started about the meaning of the universe, I had a bad feeling. Exploding stars, the eventual end of everything which won't be till fucking ZILLIONS of years from now or something, assuming we're even right about shit. And I don't completely trust that science as is, I mean, hell, we didn't exactly hit that whole world being flat and the rest of the solar system revolving around Earth quite right, who's to say we're accurate about that.Quote:

Well, it's been awhile since they've had one of the cross-dressing gays who actually weilded a noticeable amount of power arrive in Oz, if ever, but yeah, this whole subplot with the guy and his pot brownies, and O'Reily's dad coming into Oz are beyond ridiculous. Although, Shamus has been one of the more despicable ancillary characters in the show's history, and he's probably just showing up to get killed as a sort of fan-pleaser I would guess.Quote:

Looks like Fontana's gonna give everyone what they wanted, though, and send the series off with a riot next week. That should be fun, almost twice the lenght of a normal episode.
And since it's the last episode EVER, everyone, why don't we throw out the predictions just for the hell of it :)
I PREDICT...
-McManus kills that assistant of Devlin (name escapes me a moment) that had Leo killed off, in a final act of revenge for his fallen friend. This is kind of ironic because in the LAST riot, McManus' girlfriend Diane Wittlesey killed Scott Ross, who had shot McManus. And when he was interviewed about it, he lied and violated his own personal morals in doing so and that eventually destroyed their relationship. Now, in the last riot, McManus does some killing of his own :)
-Shamus and Ryan get into a fight and Shamus pulls some kind of weapon, as he goes to kill Ryan, Cyril steps in and saves Ryan's life by sacrificing his own. Ryan, then, in a fit of rage, kills his father like he promised to do a few seasons ago for killing his baby sister, and now, his brother. His mother ultimately ends up being released from Oz, leaving Ryan alone with only Doctor Nathan, who'll survive the riot, to comfort him.
-Keller was actually double crossing Beecher and helping Schillinger, and Beecher falls for it by refusing to implicate Keller in his drug bust so he can get out. But when the time comes for Chris to kill Tobias, he finds he still loves him too much to do the deed himself, so Vern decides he will. He tries stop this and turns the knife towards him and, in the struggle, he kills Schillinger, and Keller is mortally wounded in return. As he lies there, dying, Tobias cradles his head in his arms as Chris apologizes and tells him he loves him before he dies. Yeah, yeah, mushy stuff, but this will be the "romantic" ending for this subplot to satisfy the female crowd, who have seemed to especially dig this storyline over the years.
-Idzik, the guy who killed Omar and Said wants to die so much, but, ironically, he doesn't get killed. Being locked in solitary for killing Omar, he isn't sentenced to death like he thinks he will be, but is instead, given life in prison or sent to a mental ward and is put on suicide watch for the rest of his days, which is the greatest punishment of all for him.
-The Aryans find out Cutler's widow has a thing for Miguel Alvarez and vice versa and kill her for it, and plan to do the same to him. Instead, Alvarez again breaks his promise to remain on good behavior and eventually get paroled by taking control of El Norte and going to war with the Aryans during the riot. With Schillinger having been killed by Keller, the Aryans lack the proper leadership to fight them off, and get almost completely destroyed by the Latinos. Alvarez survives, but once more extends his prison term indefinitely and possibly killing his parole chances for good. He accepts this and ends the series in control of the Latinos like he was when the series started, coming full circle.
-Querns comes in appointed by Devlin to finish running Oz into the ground so he can shut it down for good, which he does at the end of the series as the surviving prisoners of the riot are moved to other prisons, bringing the series to a close.
-Oh, and, this one kind of sucks, but the whole scam the Homeboys are running under Burr's nose goes belly-up prematurely when the prison is, of course, shut down, and it remains as one of those semi-unresolved story threads. I honestly can't think of any other way it could be wrapped up, really...
Hmm, that WOULD have been cool, yes.Quote:

Oh, yeah, I remember that shot of Querns in next week's preview. I'm curious why they would bring him in as warden after firing as head om Em City...still, as he once said, "Don't fuck with Querns!". :)Quote:

Interesting idea, and you're probably right. Also, I have to wonder if there's a riot next week, since they showed a shot of people running and fighting. Probably not, since, like I said, they're building up to nothing for the end. Said getting killed would have been the perfect chance to start building up recial tension in the prison, and having it come to a head in the last episode as a riot. Looks like Oz goes out with a wimper rather than a bang. Fontana wants to leave us wanting more? Well, he's doing a shit job of that so far. If he idea of leaving us wanting more is simply not tying up the millions of loose theads the plots have, he's gonna do fine.Quote:

Shit, forgot to mention that. Why the fuck was there no guest narrator? Yeah, I guess we can forget about Adebisi...I was picturing the last episode starting with Hill, then fading to an empty cell with Adebisi. He just looks at the camera and says, "It's MY turn.". Shit, without Adebisi being the narrator this season automatically sucks.Quote:
And I guess I might as well give up hope for Adebisi narrating an episode since we didn't get any this episode.
You and those mob guys. I'll give Chuck Zito your love tomorrow. ;) I did like how they were regaining power this season. It was about time.Quote:

Okay, kids, let's list all the plot threads that have to be tied up in next week's episode. This way, when it's all over, we'll know what's still loose...feel free to add anything I miss...
What happened to Rev. Cloutier?
Will Cyril actually be put to death?
What's up with Jaz Hoyt/Timmy Kirk/Satan?
The Keller/Beecher romance?
The Beecher/Shillinger war?
The O'Riley/Gloria romance?
O'Riley's Dad?
Poet's credit card scam?
Redding and the Homeboys?
New Warden?
Will the plot behind the killings of the Mayor and Warden Glynn be revealed, and will the Governor get what's coming to him?
Why did Idzig kill Said?
Will someone kill Idzig?
Will they continue to pimp the Oz book in every other scene?
Will the Aryans find out that Robson's HIV positive?
Will Bob and the Librian hook up? Will we give a shit?
I'm sure there's tons more. Like I said, feel free to add to the list. Looking at what I've typed so far, however, next week's episode's gonna be a clusterfuck.
Very possible...Quote:

Oh, that's GOTTA happen.Quote:

Eh, I don't think so. For the story to come full circle Beecher's the one that HAS to kil Shillinger. Anything else wouldn't be right. Keller can be involved in some what but Beecher himself has to do the deed.Quote:

Nah, won't happen. Fontana has already said that Oz will go on after the last episode, and that he will write and post an occasional story on the HBO OZ site about what happens after the series ends.Quote:
-Querns comes in appointed by Devlin to finish running Oz into the ground so he can shut it down for good, which he does at the end of the series as the surviving prisoners of the riot are moved to other prisons, bringing the series to a close.
One thing you missed was what happens with Luke Perry. Knowing Tom Fontana, Perry will end up being Jesus and Timmy Kirk will end up being Satan and they'll end up having a duel like Santa and Jesus had in that bootleg South Park episode. ;)
Shit, bad news. The NYC book signing today was cancelled due to the blizzard. It will be re-scheduled, however they're not sure when. Fuckin' snow... :(
I got the book today, it is pretty cool, some of the stories from real prisons were interesting. the actual journal is a great read as well
i am not too far into it yet so that is all I have to say so far.
I missed OZ this week, and missed the two reruns.
I'm a tad pissed. Did anyone tape it? Could you mail me a tape?
Well that's it, Oz is officially done, and I don't even really have an opinion on the finale as a whole. One thing I thought was great was the way they handled Clutier. We didn't get some bullshit "ascended to heaven" explanation, quite simply he was walled up and died. I like that. I also thought Keller's death was done well. But come on...what was up with Schillingers death? I knew it was coming, I knew it had to happen, but I thought there would maybe be a bit more of a scene there, they barely even exchanged words, you would think after all the shit they have been through, it would have had more of an impactful scene, it just seemed to end so quick.
Looks like I called it on a couple parts, the Schillinger scene included, but what about the ending? I thought it was ok I guess, could have been better, could have been worse. Overall though, I thought they ended it a helluva lot better than I was expecting.
I pretty much agree with your statement. I was expecting shit, and they delivered a pretty decent episode. The problem was, it was a pretty bad when you take into consideration that it was the last episode of Oz ever. But it was better than I was expecting.Quote:

Yup, Oz is done. It felt really weird when the episode first started, like the reality of it ending finally sunk in. I'll miss it- it's my favorite show. Oh, well, here's the run-down:
The Good:
Ryan O'Riley gets some- yeah, he finally hooked up with Dr. Nathan. Good for him. Plus, he lived. Cool.
Prisoners hang with Hill- I thought it was a nice touch to actually see the prisoners interacting with Hill during his narration bits for once. No Adebisi sucks, but the narration this episode was pretty cool otherwise.
Beecher kills Shillinger- well, it had to happen, but you're right, Doug- it should have had more impact, more drama.
Quirns Takes over Oz- I liked him, though it was weird that he got hired as Warden when he got fired as head on Em city...
Keller killed- the death was pretty cool, and a nice way to tie up the Keller/Beecher thing.
Busmalis flips out- I dunno, it just made me laugh.
The Bad:
Some loose threads- Does Governor Devlin get what's coming to him? Does Beecher get the death penalty? Will that club owner turn Migel Alverez gay (what was up with that?!?)? Still, they did manage to tie up quite a bit...
Clutier's a ghost- um...okay. So he DID die in the wall and the Clutier they had in the infirmary was a ghost? O-kay...wel, at least they tied it up somehow...
O'Riley makes up with his dad- um, riiiight. The man is shown to be an evil scumbag the whole series, Ryan vows to kill him, and suddenly they're all lovey-dovey just because daddy doesn't want to die alone? Uh-uh. Hopefully Ryan's just playing another one of his games...but we'll probably never know now.
Nurse let's Hoyt get killed- um, who was she? Was she possessed by Kirk (which would be stupid, but would make sense, considering what she did)? Was she his mom? I'm not sure...what the dilly-yo? :)
Oz evacuated- Oz being closed temporarily due to Keller killing all the Aryans with some wacky toxin is just...I dunno...not horrible, but NOT what I would have done for the final scene of Oz.
Cyril dies- sorry, they killed any shread of drama this might have had with that bait-and-switch bullshit the other week. Who cares? Still, at least it lead to Ryan getting it on with Dr. Nathan... :)
Keller pissing in a bucket- I guess they felt that had to push the penis envelope just one last time...so they show Keller pissing. Nude. In a bucket. From the SIDE. They didn't hide ANYTHING. Thanks, Tom Fontana, for the nightmares I'm gonna have tonight...bastard.
Overall, Oz has been the most entertaining, unpredictable, and engrosing TV show I think I've ever seen. The last season was kinda weak, obut otherwise it's been amazing. I'll miss it, and I'll be sure to collect the DVD sets as they're released.
