I'm just curious if any of you have ever played it. After numurous attempts to download a disc image that wasn't corrupt, I have given. But the concept is so cool that I really want to play it so I though I'd ask your opinions. Also do you know if the locking up I keep running into is because of a corrupt image or because the game itself won't run on a modded U.S. system? And Finaly if you know where I can get it at a reasonable price.
-this game is very cool if you like rythm games
-imo the sound track is one of the coolest for any game i have ever played
-the ability to use your own music is sweet as hell
-i know that an original will work on an US modded system
-you should be able to find it for sub $40 just about anywhere...
-as for the disc image......h4x0r yuo got teh r0mZ!?
I like to try my games before I blow away my hard earned cash on them, especially on games I can't return if they suck. :)
Buy now, if you hate the game you might like the music and vice versa.
www.ncsx.com has it for somewhere around $30 USD. Buy it.

It's fairly easy to find in Japan, as it was released as a 'The Best' value-priced edition. It's a totally fun, unique game with a spectacular soundtrack, A PS One must-have, IMO.
Oh, and I recall ECM-era Gamefan giving Vibri like, a 14%. Utterly retarded, beyond any comprehension.

it's completely wonderful and utterly addictive but it's not exactly a rich gameplay experience all the same.
the music that comes with the game is luscious beyond belief and i've listened to the tunes outside of the game context tons and tons of times.
the gameplay basically revolves around a rabbit called vibri who travels down a pathway. (the titular "vib-ribbon".) the pathway is determined by the sounds in your music, and you have four possible actions for the four possible patterns you'll encounter in your path. obviously it gets much harder as the game progresses. each action is mapped to a button on the controller. all 4 Ls and Rs, or up and down on the d-pad and x and tri (i think, it's been awhile.)
the graphics are very simplistic (vector-style only) and honestly i began to wish that there would be more variety. not that i wanted the vectors to go away -- i love 'em -- but there was a lot of opportunity to add graphic filters and effects. oh, well, rez pretty much executed any possible ideas i could have had for this. =) i was originally hoping that they'd build vib-ribbon into the PS2 like they did with baby universe on the PS1, but enhance it. so much for that idea!
you can play with your own CDs, which i had a lot of fun doing because i like to make mix CDs, and i used to pop them into vib-ribbon after i was done so i could see how it ranked them (it plays the songs in its own difficulty order, not the order that the tracks are on the CD, and each track is a new level of difficulty.)
i originally played it off of a burn i have a real copy of it now. it should be *readily* available for a reasonable price by now, i imagine market conditions (quirky titles = YES PLEASE) are really all that's driving the price up. it was rereleased as both "the best" and "PS books" so there should be 2800 and probably about 2000 yen copies of it lingering in japan -- i don't see why a distributor would be charing $40, but that's just the Way It Is sometimes.
a note: if you're using a PS with a gamesharky thing that stops the motor so you can put the disc in (i.e. if you're swapping) then it won't work properly. you need an actual modified playstation because the vib-ribbon disc reads the TOC of the disc you put in to figure out if it's the vib-ribbon disc or another one. the problem is if you swap it stores the TOC of the disc you initially loaded with, and thinks that the vib-ribbon disc is another CD (the same reason that the redbook audio used to be screwed up when swapping CDs.)
it's definitely my second favorite nanaonsha game after umjammer lammy.
oh, and vib-ribbon was also released in PAL territories, although i've never played that version. the menus of the japanese version are all in japanese, although it's katakana only (although it's not all english.)
what a cool game. i love watching the asobi-kata from the title screen repeatedly. =)
Any word on the sequel?
