Just curious if there are any poets that visit these boards. If so, I'd love to read your work. Here's one of my pieces if you're interested in reading. If you enjoy it, I have more to share. :)
Void
Weighted down by shackles of iron
Wrapped around the chambers of my heart
A prisoner of my own imagination
Conjuring forth a devouring demon
Who feasts upon my virtues
Driving me to the brink of starvation
Vampiric in nature, it drains me
Siphoning my life’s blood from afar
As it manifests and grows into Oblivion
In vain, I reach out for sustenance
Anything to quench this hunger
That ravages my very soul
Left a shattered shell of a man
Alone and caged by bars of bone
My flesh hanging by thin shards
“End this madness!”, I cry out in pain
To an unseen force I know to be true
For it has come to me at my darkest
“Send me a savior!”, I demand
As bartering ensues, a debt paid
For some semblance of reality
A wave of an unseen hand
Dispersing into thin, wispy trails
As smoke from an extinguished campfire
I slump forward, weary and fraught
As I am overcome by the sickening pain
Of my soul being ripped asunder
For immortality has it’s price
The balance of forces takes it’s toll
In a strange game of tug-a-war
“Who shall be the victor of this battle?”
This question lingers on my psyche
Yet dry, cracked lips cannot seem to form
As if by magic, my shackles are broken
Now free to escape the confines
This darkened tomb of flesh, blood, and bone
Immortality gained, morality lost
Uninhibited now, invincible in my will
But the will of me I imagine it is not...
Void of soul, void of heart
Void of flesh, and void of thought
In my hand I hold virtue not
Stolen from me by a bargain bought
"Welcome back....Old Friend"
