I went to MacWorld this weekend

Aparantly the latest game out for Mac is 2000's smash hit 'No One Lives Forever'. My friend Corey (His Dad is high on the Apple chain) and I strolled through the MacPlay area and there was this guy on the stage talking about all the new games for Mac. He was really excited about 3 games.

I guess I don't understand Macs. They're fine and all but I really don't see where all the hype is. Everything a Mac can do, a PC can do...it just takes a bit more effort.

Oh, and theres nothing like seeing good ol' Ellen Feiss on a jumbo-tron.

those girls on Tech TV are hot - but yeah the guys are annoying.

Yeah, I love how there is a 17" PC notebook on the market that is also 1" thick and contains a 1ghz processor along with a Geforce 4, DVD burner, and top of the line apps. :rolleyes:

I also love how there is a free bundle of wonderful, consumer image/music/movie programs available for the PC comparable to iPhoto, iMovie, and iDvd. Not to mention the PC's availability of FireWire 2, and built in Bluetooh.

Looking past the lack of "blockbuster" games, Macs are amazing and Apple continues to produce innovative products and computers. Check out their new Safari browser. It is so much faster than Internet Explore it's funny. Apple = innovation. That's all there is to it. Try OSX Jaguar and their new hardware before you dismiss the company because their games are not up to date. Because God forbid there be more to computers than gaming...

oh, and I'll give Safari props - it's a good browser. However, I think all of Apple's computers are overpriced, and done that way purely because they are the only game in town if you want a 'Mac', because they are 'pretty', and because they play up to the chique demograph of people who want a Mac simply because it's hip to do so.

Oh, and media whores. Then again, this media whore sticks to what he knows - I mean, what's with this 'apple' button. Give me a PC, or give me death!

Considering things like this, I think this is why all of Apple's ads are so counter productive. They try to market their products to the "average people that want things simple" angle, right? Well how does Apple explain to Averagejoe Consumer that 75% or more of the software he sees on store shelves doesn't work on his machine?

I think they're counterproductive because even to joe normal the ads are obviously way exaggerated. Those are just plain ridiculous situations told by people who are obviously lying through their teeth. If Apple toned it down a bit, they'd probably get further.

As to "I don't get macs". There's nothing to get. They're another choice, that's all. Competition is a good thing, MS ruling the world is a bad thing. And besides, Macs are excellent computers. I welcome their presence wholeheartedly.

I guess I am not as biased as some -- I like both platforms and see the benefits of both and truly feel neither is superior -- Yes Macs crash all the time! And yes people lose a lot of work on them too. And no, my PC never crashed on me like our office Macs have...so I think it's basically how you take care of your computer that determines how long it lasts (sometimes though it just doesn't last that long).

I have an iMac (which fairs a lot better than the G3s and G4s we have at work --I 've never had a single problem with my iMac and love it!) and PC at home and like both, though yes I do prefer the setup of a Mac, but it is no way easier to use than a PC. Actually, I think it takes quite a lot of kowledge to use a Mac properly and maintain it. Extensions conflicts, network preferences, using the Chooser menu, etc....this is not stuff my grandmother can just figure out.

So my major beef is with the ad campaign -- I personally feel Macs are a hell of a lot of work to keep clean and efficient, though they have a lot of nice programs and a decent user interface.

My other major gripe is the price -- they are too damned expensive -- there is no justifiable argument for them being so...

PCs are cheaper and pack a lot more power for the price and most (not all) of the good Adobe programs and whatnot are available on the PC. To support this, a lot of design companies do use PCs because of this -- my friend who is a Flash and other high-end program designer uses majorly suped up PCs ar his work and they do the job nicely.

So I guess you could argue either way, but I never buy the argument that one is better than the other. It depends on the user, his/her preferences, software, hardware, price, etc...and you could argue all day as to which is better and never really prove anything...

You're talking MacOS Classic, which crashes about as much as Win9x (maybe a little more). Mac OS X is an entirely different ball game. I spent 4 years using a MacOS 8.x/9.x machine at work, I'm quite familiar with how unstable (and antiquated) the OS is.

But, blaming Macs running classic for crashing is just as viable as blaming Win9x machines for crashing. i.e., it's not. Both have better, newer counterparts. Which is why Apple's ad campaign is so lame.

MacOS Classic has the best interface an OS has ever seen, save for the lack of any real command line interface. MacOSX 's almost as good. This is one area that MS, Linux, Sun, Be, whatever, can't touch with a ten foot pole.

Nothing's forcing you to buy the Benz, a Ford will get you to work and the grocery store just as well. Better hardware, better quality, higher price. End of story.

Morgan on The Screen Savers is awful - always fumbling through her segments. It'd be one thing if she'd just started but she's been on the show for like a year. If anything I'd say the girls were twice as annoying as the guys (except for maybe the Call For Help guy).

BTW: I noticed my MAC only crashed when running MICROSOFT Internet Explorer........hmmmm..............

Megan is geeky but seems cool. At least she knows how to conduct herself on camera -- better than Morgan, anyway.

Cat shouldn't even be on the channel. She's fine on-camera, but she doesn't seem to dig the whole technology thing.
