If I tried to go into exactly everything that made the Tav special and talk about everyone who's made things so much different for my life, it'd wind up as a book. Honestly, all of the Tav homies made me realize that there are people out there who love games as much as I do, and are wildly and enjoyably different from each other. Before, I had the mindset that all 'true' gamers had some sort of same personality. Thank goodness they don't.

Anywho, thanks for all the years of chatting and here's to another 5 years of the Tav dominance :D

Anyways... I don't know what to say really. The Tavern has been a big part of me. I've met lots of cool and some not so cool people, but it's always been amusing or at the very least, occupying. Who can forget the endless server hopping, our battle with #pokemasters, or the absolutely *fantastic* power struggles? Remember the Tavern splitting in two or completely up-and-moving behind the various founders' backs? Viva la revolution! Fight the oppression, etc... I'm not sure who won in the end, but at least things have settled down... for the time being. It's amazing how even through all the bullshit, we - a relatively small group of people from all over the world - have managed to stick together for the pure enjoyment of each other's company and conversation. It's a common bond that runs far deeper than a website or magazine.
Friendships have been created, hatred has been spawned, and babies have been made (okay, maybe not yet...) over the little IRC (and even, *gasp* java!) community that refused die. Sometimes we dwindle, and we've all had our doubts, but at this point, I could see the Tavern existing in some form or another (perhaps various forms) several years into the future...

Remember when BT de-regged the whole Tavern? That was great, I *still* think he was the best founder.

Remember Benjamin being a dick? In my head he looked like that Dr. Claw guy from Inspector Gadget, only with a keyboard where every button was marked "K-LINE!"

Remember when Randerson was a similarly power-hungry asshole? Then he let the raging fag demon out and he was cool again. He even sent me a bunch of Depeche Mode stuff for free. Rob rules.

I assumed LANlord was a robot most of the time.

Remember PSi? Remember XEOSPHERE? What the fuck was that about? (subconscious plug- http://www.jasonrivera.com)

Remember Colossus? CloudStrife? koRny? BleepGGE? (The latter had better grammar skills, but I assure you that she was no more intelligent than the first three.)

Remember that time Aurelis sold you a really great deal on that propane tank? Okay, me neither.

We've all changed, grown, and matured. Some of us have even touched boobies. I've changed. Whether the Tavern had much of a direct role in the lives of anyone is irrelevant... It has acted as a fantastic vehicle for - fuck that - WE have been an amazing group of people. So, here's to the next... five years. And many more to come after that.

Holy shit. 5 years already. Even though I can't claim to have been there since day one, I've been here for quite a while (since September/October 97).

I was only 15 at that time. As a kid, I acted pretty stupidly sometimes. But hey, some guys act (or acted) far worse for their age, so I wasn't too bad. ;)
I guess my biggest fault was that I wanted to argue too much about things that really didn't matter. But they were wrong dammit! :evil:

Anyway, on to the rambling... sorry if it's a bit messed up, I'm usually more coherent than that. But as BK told me, "this is special" or something. And also the fact that IE crashed while I tried to post the first time didn't help. But nevermind that. And be warned that almost all the previous posts are far funnier than mine. I just suck at being funny. :(


I remember staying mad at Knight for a damn long time because he had been a jerk (for absolutely no good reason) to a friend I had brought there. After that I found every reason to hate him, heh... ouch. Well, it's too long ago for me to still care now. Still, that was mean. Knight, I mean. Not me. I'm never mean. Never. Well. Okay, sometimes. But only to idiots. They deserve it. Yeah.

I remember in the first few days that I came, there was this ongoing inside joke about "lesbian hotdogs". I wanted to know what it was all about, because well, it seemed funny enough, but whenever I asked, people always told me to "ask Mousse" (now known as Steve/Panzer). But being relatively unlikely I could never get online at the same time as him. And when I did see him, well, he tried explaining it, but I never made much sense of it. Actually, I think he did tell me but I forgot. Damn.
Anyway. I remember breaking into an argument with Steve about I don't know what (ah, the memories). At first I didn't like him all that much. Well I didn't dislike him either, but he seemed all so popular and I was wondering why, he didn't seem all that cool to me. Well, he had beaten me in my first trivia, by like one point (and I had lost cuz I had been disconnected). My first gaming trivia and I nearly beat the master Mousse. Wow. Now I probably couldn't get one point.

But then one day, he mentioned Testament (the thrash metal band). I said "Testament rocks", he proposed to me, and we've been cool ever since.
Of course, he likes Megadeth (no one's perfect). But he lended me Panzer Dragoon Saga. So that means... without the Tavern, I wouldn't have borrowed Panzer Dragoon Saga from Steve, so I would have never played it. So in conclusion, coming there was a good thing! :) Although he was SUPPOSED to sell it to me, however heXer had to borrow it first, and that idiot lost it! AAARGH! :mad: Fuck you Tristan, for that I'll never forgive you.

I remember thinking that Aurelis was a girl, too. I dunno, that name reminded me of some book character named Auril, which was a girl, and so the notion stuck.

But, I hosted a few game trivias for a while (won a few of them too :) when Makaze wasn't playing, of course... though I did beat him once, mwahahaha. Anyway, when I hosted one, I noticed that Aurelis was kicking ass. And that actually (and ironically) gave me the hint that he was a guy, because well, except for me (and I say that with absolutely no bragging intent) no female Taverner was ever really that knowledgeable about games, especially old ones.

I remember a lot of people thinking I was a guy. Or that I had gotten my name from Darkstalkers. Or people that called me "Morr" and I would throw a fit, and ask them to call me Morrigan or just Morri, because well, quite frankly "Morr" is just... ugly. Ironically the latter two irritated me far more than the first one. Probably because I'm so gender-neutral that it's easy to just assume I'm a guy. When I say gender-neutral, I mean not giggling and acting "girly" and like those stereotypical anime chicks that Ven loves so much that really don't exist in real life. (By the way, Ven isn't just insane or dumb, he's also very delusional)

Speaking of insane, dumb and delusional, of course I remember Bleep. I was among the first to openly bash her, and got a lot of shit for it at first (eventually they all agreed with me, though, but of course never apologized for bashing me for bashing Bleep. But that's okay, they probably just forgot ;) ). Like a dog, even though I demolished her, she came back the next day, "Hi Morri!! ^__^ <:) What's up? ^__~". Eventually she got the hint, but it took her long enough.

I'm probably one of the only Taverner who never had a problem with Kenshin. Weird, considering everyone thought I was such a bitch that I would only get along with those who like metal, or something (which is not true, but a persistent reputation I have, thanks to ah... Ven? probably). But no, Kenshin never bothered me. And neither did BinaryTree.

I'm probably one of the only ones who remember Bastion (first guy I ever "met" on the net, dunno what's up with him though, but I think he's still around).
Or Zenogaist-Zero. Whatever happened to that guy anyway? He was from my area (Montreal), and I know he had some self-esteem problems and he was seriously depressed, and one day he just... disappeared. He could even be dead (fucking creepy). I hope not. I actually kind of miss him. Damn, it's been so long. Only Taverner I ever talked to the phone with (only once).

I was just remembering Vincent_VII. What an idiot. I mean honestly. He discriminated me because of my age. He was like 3 years older than me (wow dude, you're like, so old and wise... not). He was some evangelist christian too (it's no secret that my urge to kill rises when I'm around them).
I was remembering Maijin too. He was an asshole, but kind of cool actually. I don't know why, but he was. Even though he argued with everyone, me included. But I didn't mind, because he was funny.
I remember Zombie. He was one of the nicest guy there. His website was a failure (no offense), but he was too nice for me to make fun of it.


Okay, this is getting too long if I just name all the people I remember, so I might as well finish with a quick message.

SO, I'm going to follow up with some predictions for the future of the GF_Tavern...

1. Knight will marry Morrigan in the year 2004, and they will go on to live happily ever after. Morrigan will pop out three daughters and a son.

2. Riv will never, ever, EVER have sex with ANYONE.

3. BinaryTree will be revealed as the world's first successful artificially intelligent humanoid robot, created by the Tandy corporation way back in 1982.

Oh yeah... I'd like to point out, before someone else does, that I'm the only female that ever stayed that long. Others have come and go, and some come sometimes, but I dunno why because they're not gamers, just whores (well, okay that explain it).
Kind of says a lot huh? Like er... I dunno, but it probably means that I'm insane or that I can put up with a lot of male stupidity. :)

Wow, man. How long ago was it that I first came here? Two years now?

I knew very little of #gf_tavern's existance, knowing only what little Kenshin cared to share with the #perfect-zero folk. One day, out of blind curiousity, I went into the little webspace.

Few days pass now that I don't at least pop onto chat-solutions to go to the Tav. I have laughed a many laugh, joined in the crusades against the newbies, and grown agitated at the political bitching and whining over Op status. I've had you bastards do my homework for me and I've played some of you in some games. I've seen a lot of you change over my two years here, for better or for worse, but needless to say, I would be hard pressed to ever forget about this place for the rest of my life.

Thanks for the memories... and "re-education." Here's to five more years, eh?

I almost forgot all about King! I haven't seen that guy in ages. He was big fan of the lesbian hotdogs, actually. Him, that chick Zero, Drunken Samuri, MCREN, Mishima, Kriller and I formed the first, and possibly only exclusive Tavern club back when it first opened. I wonder what happened to some of those guys.

Kriller started Animegamer, the first gaming website to spawn from GF_Tavern readers. Shidoshi, Tristan, Zero and I wrote for it. Tristan and I wanting more control over the site, led to us creating Playstation Interactive because we thought everyone else sucked(possibly the only gaming website ever formed and fueled out of vengeance!). I hope some of those guys eventually find the Tavern again.

I forgot about Morri and I disliking each other. It's funny how you can chat with someone for an hour and not like them, but give them time and they really grow on you. Morri's the coolest. She's the only female online who I've ever jokingly proposed to, who wasn't a camwhore named Snow.

There's a ton of memorable events from the tavern. Lots of good feuds too. I remember coming home from school back in '97 and being determined to make Ali look bad.

I remember the PSi/TNL war which lasted years. Hell, TNL taverners and PSi taverners would dislike each other solely for that reason. There's STILL bad blood sometimes! Now thats a war.

I remember Ben hosting the Tavern, and being a dick about it. I was determined not to let him make the rules. But he lightened up, and became ultra-cool, and his server is one of the reasons that the tavern probably still exists to this day.

I remember when Randerson called me a pussy, and I said that he MUST be gay if he likes Depeche Mode. I remember being right. Randerson rocks.

I'd do the whole shoutout thing, but I'm afraid to leave anyone out. I dig everyone, even the lamers, because they made things interesting.
