The GameFan Tavern celebrates it's 5th year of existence!

gf_tavern rocked. It was around late 97 when I started going there on a regular basis, used the java chat feature at first, then switched to irc because the fucking sound features were annoying as fuck (toilet flush..bleh). Then the irc server stopped working, gamefan went to hell and that was the end of that. It was fun. I remember some old kats like King, Kei-chan, Claymasta, moussemega, elena, sarah_vf3, mike3, quin and some others.

what was so cool about it was the gf editors would actually stop by on a consistent basis like knightmare, chief hambleton, shidoshi, dangohead, reubus and some others. It was a family back then as well.

Yeah, I remember all sorts of memories both good and bad, too.

--I remember when I first met Tristan and he registered every nick in the Tavern that wasn't already registered. I also remember him nuking me a few times.

--I remember when we had Tigger as an op, imfamous for his NO CURSING PLEASE and DON'T FLOOD OR I WILL BAN you assaults.

--I remember when John and I didn't get along and Drunken-Samuri and I hacked his website and redirected it to Meatymen.com

--I remember Monkeyman, the guy that used to annoy us all by private-messaging "Bye!" to everyone whenever he left. Didn't piss me off until he asked me if I could get a picture of my sister's titties.

--I remember getting revenge on Monkeyman the same way I hacked John. Who the hell uses POOP as their password for everything?

--I remember Joe Tran, who worshipped the ground Steve and Tristan walked on and sent us all tapes of him doing karate. I remember he would call my sister and breathe funny. I remember him trying to call Makaze and Mega at my house at E3'98. I remember us making some b.s. excuse to not talk to him.

--I remember Katagi owing Steve $115 dollars and disappearing.

--I remember firing PSi staffers in #GF_Tavern by totally degrading them.

--I remember being "Rivera." Riv is a lot easier to type (and sounds less Mexican). I'm lazy.

--I remember going to E3 as a member of GameNET because I was 17 and this way if I got kicked out for not being 18 PSi wouldn't have gotten the bad rep. Fortunately I was born in November 1980, and so a little whiteout and paper turned it to January 1980 on my ID ^_~

--I remember the wars Ven and I have had over things as little as systems or as big as trashing everything I'd say and do, and always trying to steal my ops. Regardless, that's Ven for you. Again, I only beat you because Ike used to beat Tina.

--I remember the infamous "Closet Incident" with Kenshin during E3 '99 in which he locked himself in our bathroom, threatened to kill himself, and then was kicked out because Tristan had to take a leak, which led to him sleeping in the closet all night and waking up VERY angry at us. This tale is legend now among GF_Tavern.

--I remember hosting the COMING OUT speech of Randerson on www.jasonrivera.com . That was unexpected - "I'm gay LOL!" What a sentence to wrap that up in!!!

--I remember Benn threatened to call DH's ISP once.

--I remember putting Ryaphil's picture in a gay teen boyz banner because it had all white people and wasn't affirmitve-action enough. He's still pissed about that ^_~

--I remember DH threatening to call MY ISP when he first came to the Tavern.

--I remember Hemp taking over the Tavern - several times.

--I remember the New Tavern Order - NTO I don't really remember what the hell that was about.

--I remember the Zombified Alliance. I'd rather not.

--I remember hiring Rhydant on PSi and him not ever doing anything.

--I remember Mark Ryan doing DOUBLE the work on PSi, thus equalizing the fact we had Rhydant on the website who did nothing.

--I remember BT dropping foundership because I was sticking up for a banned John Gilpin and telling me "I hope you and John die in a stupid way and win a Darwin Award."

--I remember BT getitng mad at me because I thought Bleep was hot and used to like her because she would talk to me and mention that she's not wearing any underwear, making me believe her "morals" were a lie just to piss people off.

--I remember BT hating on me a lot actually.

--I remember crunchyfish saying, and I quote
"Krang makes me question my sexuality."

--I remember DH and I invading depression chat and telling people.
"Don't shoot yourselves. Think of the poor f--ker that has to clean that sh!t up."

Yes, these things all sound bad, and maybe a bit chaotic, but to be honest, we're all one big happy dysfunctional family, and I can look back and laugh about any of these things now. That's the way we are - we can just be freakin' insane and still get along fine all at the same time.
I even heard we got offered to go on Springer once. ^_~

#GF_Tavern - Some of us drink, too!!!

Wow. I have so many good things to say about the tavern I don't know where to begin.

I first started comming here in June of '99, I was just 13. It seems like a million years ago because of all the great memmories. Most of my first day I spent argueing with Morrigan about RPGs or something, I think beans was also there, and maybe Chance. DH still went as Disposable Hero and Knight was Lord_Raptor or something. You may remember that that summer I lost my nick and had to go as Tom_Servo for awhile. Looking back I acted incredible stupid and it's amazing that I didn't get banned with my n00bness and my bias against everything not Sega. I even used the java room on the sorely missed Gamefan.com.

It's hard to believe I've been going here for over 3 1/2 years. I've never devoted much time to any online activity as much as the tavern(this includes forums, websites and everything else).

All the great people that I've met via the tavern I would like to thank, this includes: Riv, Chance, Red_venom, DH, crunchyfish, Lisa, Randerson, Panzer, Morrigan, Aurelis, MagmaDragoon, EvilMog007, Knight, Will, Eki, KonamiCode, MarkRyan, Error, Ven, Someone, BonusKun, Frostu, Joku, Kefka, SamuraiMoogle, Reality plus everyone I've forgotten. Also all of the old chatters that don't come around anymore like The_Gamefan, Nina, SegaSquirrel, Pillow, Bastion, King, beans, Seguki and SpookyApparition(sort of). I can't even begin to fathom the number of times I've busted a gut laughing at your antics, and I hope it never ends. All the mayhem, all the hillarity, I couldn't live without it, not by a longshot.

There's so much more to say but this is long enough already. Here's to 5 more!

Ah 5 great years...I think I've been around for four of them.

All I can say is that it's been wonderful. I never talked about it to anyone, but around 3 or so years ago I was going through a really bad time, I'll spare you the details but it involved me, my best friend, his girl, and lots of screaming and hatred. One of the things that helped me get through that was being able to come to the Tavern at midnight and get the opportunity to either laugh my ass off, or just go in there and vent.

Now, I'm at a happy point in my life, so now I spread joy to taverners all over the world!

I thank each one of the regulars for making my life so much more entertaining on a night to night basis, whether we are talking about how much a new game blows ass, new ways of finding humor from an 11 year old kid, or having half the chat room invading a cam whore's chat room, it's been fun.

HOLY SHIT! 5 YEARS already? Damn I'm getting old. I remember being on gamefan's chat the VERY 1st day it opened on E3. It was me and some other guy that said he was chatting with me from E3. It was great. And since that day I have always chatted there. I still remember all the great people have have chatted with over the years. Though many of them have left there are so many new and great people to talk with. I still go to the chat. Though i do hang out in GameGo alot since it seems that most of the original tavern people have ended up there. Shit, I still remember booting people in the old tavern and harassing idiots and being a total ass myself. It was odd that day that ECM annouced he was WORKING for Gamefan. Theres so many memories I dont even know what to say. I just want to let everyone know that I WILL always remember the goodtimes we had in the past and hopefully more in the future.

Hey wow, a topic that got me to register yet again.

I haven't been with the Tavern for all 5 years, but you'd think SOMEBODY would mention me in all their yearbook signatures...

I mean afterall, it was I who....sat there and laughed at all the funny shit that was going on around me.

It was I who...would lurk and make an occasional joke that would get a response from nobody.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Anyway, I do still love going to the Tavern, though lately it has become more of a 7 - 12 thing. Must mean everybody grew up and got jobs.

And were it not for the Tavern, I wouldn't have gotten my job at TNL, for it was through the tav that I met Mister Rivera and wrote some reviews for his briefly renewed PSi (Strange that was, up one day, gone a few weeks later. poof!) And it was PSi goin poof that allowed me to say I want to keep writing reviews dammit. Who else needs a talent such as I? As it happened TNL was hiring, and I managed to con Bahn into giving me a chance. :jest:

Anyway. I really only remember a few outstanding moments from Tavern history, Rob coming out and a few of the tavern migration/splits. Hell I was even an op for a while. That was sorta cool. While it lasted. (something else that went poof...)

I just want to take the time to thank all the people I consider my friends in the Tavern. Rob, Riv, Knight, Bio, Chance and the rest of you who make me look forward to sitting infront of the computer to watch the story unfold, and occasionally participate.

I've been around from the START and I'm surprised a lot more of you didnt mention me in your posts...you rat bastards :) I know I'm hardly around any more but I still drop in. I remember when I first went into the chat a just was a total prick :) I got kicked out a lot by Shidoshi for some reason. Then I got OPs and that was a great time being able to kick out the stupid fucks when the eds. werent on. (why don't I have em now??) It's so great to actually be able to talk to people that know their shit when it comes to gaming. Its also nice just to meet a lot of people. I remember when MagmaDragoon use to go by the name of MoogleKnight :)! Well I really don't have much to say, but I'll be around so don't forget me you bastards!

There's so much I remember more now than ever. I remember meeting Morrigan and bitching to her about Final Fantasy VII saying that Square was a bunch of lazy fucks on the ending when she touted that i didn't see the deeper meaning of it.

I remember Bleep starting her stupid ass GAIM site here on TNL and she got blacklisted .

I remember meeting Dangohead and getting into VooT more so because of him. He alone is what made me try to hard at that game. A friend like him to me comes one in a million. He was one of the few editors I knew that actually talked to you as a person instead of some fucking follower.

I remember meeting, Ven, Randerson, MagamaDrgoon, Genjuro and a few others IRL and realizing that we are all just normal people behind our screen names who love Videogames.

I sit here and think about a lot of people who reside here from GameGo!. I feel bad because I felt the mag never got the true chance that gamefan had. I mean 5 years is a long time for us when it comes to IRC and GameGo!'s life was so short that it barly registered a flicker.

I see people here talk abotu GameGo! being a long time ago but, It was nothing compared to those of us who lasted through Gamefan Magazine.

We truly outlasted the test of time by our friendship, respect, and treatment of each other as people. I loved Gamefan not only as a magazine but, the people who made it up.

Even if ECM pissed off Sqaure fans with his Score on FFVIII or cerebrus with his low score on Soul Caliber DC. It was an awesome thing to see brutal honesty.

Thanks Gamefan & #GF_Tavern for making my life much more enriched than I could have ever dreamed possible.:D
