Cats!

I've never seen the reason to have a pet around the house, and I feel better about undomesticated animals. However, this white cat showed up recently, and over a couple of months she's grown on us. We let her into the store to sleep (which she does ALL the time, my friends who have cats say they've never seen anything close- the cat is as lazy as I am:D) and to eat and get out of the cold. My dad really likes her, he normally hates cats but he spends time playing with her and running around with her outside. She's grown spoilt, though. I'll be in the store trying to read or play a game and sometimes she'll steal my seat when I get up! Her name is Pearl.

I own and hate cats. Short summary of why below.

I got a kitten like 2 days after it was born because its mother abandoned it. I raised it on special cat milk formula in a bottle when it was newborn, fed it after it outgrew milk, changed it litterbox, and basically treated it like any family member you love. Then about 10 years later, I was getting the mail on my front porch. The cat, for no reason whatsoever, ripped into me with some feral insanity and tore both my arms up. I literally looked like I had stuck my arms in a table fan. Hundreds of scratches in like 10-12 seconds of trying to get the cat off of me. Most of the scratches healed fine, but I do have 2 long scars that are about 3 inches in length on my right arm now. I shoulda killed the animal there, or thrown it out, but I instead gave caretaking over to the rest of my family. I now ignore it, but it is still living in my house.

Just like humans, apparently animals can be retarded and/or crazy as hell. And as a result, I will probably never own another animal again.

I love cats. :)

I had several when I was little. I don't have any now, but I'd like to get another one eventually.

There is a cat I see when I am walking to the grocery store. I don't know his name so I named him "Pedro the Cat". He's grey and white and very friendly. :)

I have two cats currently, a brother and a sister, that my family adopted from an animal shelter.

Both are extremely effectionate, to the point where they'll tear up the carpet outside my bedroom door if I close it at night.

The male I taught to play fetch with toy mice. He had a natural disposition to pick up any thrown toy mouse by the mouth, walk it somewhere, then play with it. So I took a can of cat treats, and shook them whenever he picked the mouse up. Usually he'd just drop the mouse and dash for the treats, so I'd just walk over to the mouse, threw it, and shook the can again. He eventually caught on. Now you'll just be sitting somewhere, and he'll waltz right up and drop a mouse at your feet when he wants to play.

My family also took in and kept 4 strays at one time, two of which would leave us presents on our front porch. And by presents I mean dead birds, snakes, mice, etc. None of which were even partially eaten - they were for us.

I'd have to say that not all cats will make good pets. The animal has to have a disposition towards being with humans, which is rarer in cats than dogs. And it's rarer in rabbits than cats. (had an indoor rabbit that the family trained to relieve himself in a certain spot, on top of some newspaper)

But with a suitable animal (you'll have to depend on luck, probably) and a little effort, you can have an excellent pet. If you don't have the patience for it, you might want to stick with dogs, inferior groomers that they tend to be.

i had a cat once. it died when i was still in middle school. i loved that cat. i cried when it died and everyone laughed at me when i did. i made a nice little "coffin" thing for her to find out my mom threw her in the garbage...the hell is up with that?!

Haha so that is true. No wonder my cats outside have left a couple dead rats by the door.

but I'm severely allergic

sneezing, watery eyes, hives

So... no more kitties for me.
