Anyone have strong feelings either way about this game?
I strongly feel it sucks. In fact, so does everyone on Earth, except Despair and the game designers' moms. And even the moms aren't too sure.
If V is the set of all games, and X is the set of all games Despair likes, then X=V.Quote:

Yes, the cube version is the worst version and is the worst game you'll play this month.Quote:

Not Mario. But there does seem to be a high correspondance between a game having a) action/sci fi movie trappings, or b) blood and Despair liking it.Quote:

control, level design, play mechanics (hit the face buttons when the marker appears in them to make the stripper dance *groan* )Quote:

graphics on all 3 systems are ass
Well, I'm here to defend this poor little game :p
DTR is not that bad. Sure it didnt turn out to be what most of us expected, but still it had some good things going for it. Action packed levels, lots of enemies to kill in fun ways, cool moves to perform to kill your enemies, use of Shadow(the dog) for both enemy dispossal and gun retrival. Graphics were decent, and I feel they they were bashed because originally game was designed for PS2, and then switched to Xbox late in the development, so team didnt feel like to upgrade graphical details. Story gets bashed alot, but I think its not that bad, and opening Cinema is one of the best CGI movies I seen. Cool and action packed.
There are parts that I didnt like, like Bomb Disarming, and cumbersome Xbox controller set up. Who in the hell thought of putting Jump and Shoot on top of each other. Very inconvient.
As for Cube version, I havent tried it, but I know that PS2 version is actually a great port. Some things got improved, such as difficulty, abundance of Mini-games, and MUCH better control scheme.
I actually planning on getting PS2 version, if I see it cheap, and play it with controller it was created for.
I don't think its worth $10, but thats me.
Wasnt it supposed to be an XBox only game, then they scaled back the Xbox version so they could port it to the PS2?
No, Originally Namco had it as PS2 game, but later in development cycle team jumped to Xbox, hence underwelming graphics by Xbox standard. It stayed Xbox exclusive for 6 months, and recently ports to PS2 and Cube were released.
Ports are updated versions of the game, with better controls, less mini games, and bigger focus on action.
After seeing this at E3, I was pretty excited, but actually playing it left me disappointed.
The grapples/disarams are pretty cool, but I found it foolish to rely on that for much of the game. Most of it is a run-and-gun shooter, which I found less satisfying than Max Payne. The aiming system is almost as bad as GTA3's, and the hand-to-hand fighting is wretched. I actually enjoyed the other mini games, but mostly because they broke up the monotony.
The models are blocky, the environments uninspired.
Yet strangely, I haven't traded it in because I intend to beat it. The later levels are brutally hard, and I haven't been challenged like that in a while. But then, I heard they watered down the difficulty on PS2/GC.
My assessment then: it may be worth $20, but more likely a rental.
It's a bargain at 20 dollars. If it's anything like the Xbox version, then it plays like a shooting puzzle game. Kind of like Rolling Thunder 2 on the Mega Drive. I found it to be one of the more engaging gameplay experiences of last year.
This game is worth like $5, its a heap of trash.
Holy shit! Nice to see you posing again Master!Quote:
