This isn't much of a "music" thread as to post it in the music forum, but rather a thread to laugh at Metallicas attempts to make money by suing everything in sight that somewhat resembles their band name. :p
well - for once i'm going to take metallica's side (the real metallica). That local band is just doing that on purpose obviously, creating a stir for itself as a publicity stunt - there's no way they could claim ignorance about it ... absolutley no way - and they admit that they knew it was wrong in an interview. I can understand happless coincedences such as when that furniture company had a brand named metallica - or even the lipstick thing...those were all unintentional really - But this case right here is outright infringment. Another band using a popular band's name to get attention deserves to be threatened.
What I can't understand from your (hopefully joking) statement is how you think the real Metallica could make any money from a dirt poor local punk band... what money is there to take?
Big Evil Litigious Metallica is right on here. This is as clear a case of trademark infringement as one can imagine. I don't see what kind of monetary damages they'd hope to recover, but they'd definitely get an injunction. It won't even get to that point, because I don't think the little guys can afford to be sued.
But what a great fucking publicity stunt! Fuck the name...Little Edmonton Metallica is gettting worldwide recognition, and fan support!
That being said am I the only one that see's the term "Corporate Metallica" as ironic, and telling of the bands direction?

Metallica hasn't released anything worth listening to in 15 years. I can't believe they're still around myself.
Hey now, the Black album was semi-cool. Once they break up as a band they'll start suing each other over all sorts of shit, so they'll get their just desserts soon enough.
