get Lords of Thunder before anything else IMO. It's excellent. It's also not that hard to find (assuming the market's about the same as it has been in the past).
Blazing Lazers also packs a lot of bang for the buck, one of the best hucard shooters around but quite common.
You're also not limited to just US cds, there's no territory lock out on CDs. Dracula X is a must if the price doesn't bother you. One of the few expensive games that lives up to its price tag.

xS, do you mean Space Harrier 1? Space Harrier 2 is Genesis-only.
TG16 Space Harrier was pretty good at the time, although the lack of checkerboard irritated me.
New Adventure Island is a fun title, challenging with a nice art style.
Dragon's Curse looks ancient but is a excellent adventure title.
Blazing Lasers, Super Star Soldier, and Soldier Blade all great vertical shooters.
Legendary Axe 1 and 2 are completely different games but both stand well on their own. Pretty cheap too.
And a few obscure CD imports: Cho Aniki (side-view shooter), and Pop N Magic (Bubble Bobble style action).

Devil's Crush- the ultimate pinball experience. At times, it almost plays more like a shooter.

I know theres an Amstrad(or some other old computer) version, how is it?
I forgot about the computer versions of Space Harrier 2. I'm sure the Amiga version would be better than an Amstrad version but I haven't played them.
I'm almost 100% sure there's no PC Engine version of Space Harrier 2.
I used to know an awesome site that had pics of virtually every obscure version of Space Harrier.

How does it compare to original?
Space Harrier 2 was probably graphically the best console game on the market in 1989. But since the Genesis lacked hardware scaling , the game is far choppier than the arcade original. Space Harrier 2 has a much cooler and darker look to it but the gameplay in the original arcade game is better.
