I don't understand what all the fuss is about. As you get older your responsibilities increase.
Because a Japanese 20-something said he doesn't have the time to play games that means the gaming industry is going down the tubes?
How many 20-somethings in any country are going to have the same amount of time to play as they did when they were kids?
What would have alerted me even more would have been the news that a nation of 20-somethings prefers to stay indoors playing games most of their free time.
I think there is a diffrence in the US.
It seems that we are far more social console gamers than japan has been. So I think that Games aren't going to slow here anytime soon.
Exactly. This thread's article is deviod of revelation or conclusion.Quote:

My dad could kick major booty in Asteroids on the 2600. But nothing else. Ever. It was really weird sort of like an idiot savant thing, but just in videogames and asteroids.Quote:

I disagree. I pulled the "They don't make them like they used to" card in this thread but thing is... Thunderforce Goldpack 2 is like a new game to me. I've never played Thunderforce 4 until last week. And TFAC is different(and hard) enough from SNES Thunder Spirits that it's like playing it for the first time as well.Quote:

That sums it up pretty well. Everytime I see someone say "Games nowadays suck. They don't make them like they used to" it pisses me off. Games maybe different, but they aren't worse. It's just that shit seems alot cooler when you're 10 years old.
So if I can enjoy an old game that's new to me, who's to say that's nostalgia talking?
I agree somewhat with the people that gaming is not necessarily "worse" now, but it definitely is different. GameHED brought up many good points, and if I ever write my article for Shou, I'll have some more to add to it. But it is definitely plausible that because gaming is different, people do not like the direction in which it's changed. I am one of these. So obviously, for those like me, "They don't make 'em like they used to" rings true.
I agree. Especially about the "gaming kids are kind of chubby" comment. I used to be overweight(not fat, but sort of chubby),and I would neglect my body for the sake of gaming. But then that all changed, I dropped 45 lbs. and started taking care of myself better. I workout everyday and I play games a lot less. Lately all I play is FIFA 2002 for a quick Friendly, or Vice City for a little bit because it's fun and I never got around to III. Now that I'm skinny, a lot of girls think I'm cute(trust me, I'm not full of myself), and I take care of my body before any game. I feel bad for the people that take games over themselves. Truly sad.
Fatties!
Everybody goes through that gaming phase out period, I think.
My brother who's 29; he bought all the major consoles up to last year... now he won't give them a second's thought. He hasn't touched a game for over a year now. He's too busy doing a whole bunch of other crap with his life(i.e., getting laid).
I'm 20 and the whole gaming scene died out for me 2 years ago. I still play games, but my tastes are very... elitist, for lack of a better word. I used to play 6-8 hours a day crack heading rpg's left and right... but I can't stand to do that anymore. I felt that Eternal Darkness dragged on for quite a bit. The only next gen game that I'm most definitely getting is Silent Hill 3. Beyond that, I might consider importing Metal Slug 3... but like that article mentioned, the industry is being pumped with a never ending cycle of sequels.
GBA is probably the only system that I give light of day, these days. To me, it represents the "Golden Age" of gaming. Sure, half the line up of the system is ports, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun.
The video game industry will never dry up. As long as there's children, the market for games will be there. Melf and Superstition; your kids will probably be into games as well... and they will bite your ankles to get them a new copy of Collectomon or whatever the new collecting thing that maybe in a few years, and they cycle will start anew. They will play hardcore in their teen years, and finally, they'll bitch about how games aren't as appealing as they were back in their day. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case 20-30 years down the line.
