Just ordered this along with a Sliver PS2 and three other shooters.
My hand will be full and my wallet will be empty for quite some time.
Hope it was worth it.
A fine way to treat yourself. Good work. Be sure to check out the high score charts for the respective games that you have purchased.
I just put up the dai-ou-jou chart before because I'm really getting antsy now. Hope you like it. It isn't as fancy as anything cigs has been able to pump out, but I'd like to save myself from having to take Tylenol everytime I have to update the charts.
Which I hope will be often.
Thanks for the pics Geruto, I'm glad to see it includes a practice mode of sorts from the look of things. Thank god for that.
Something new @ arika's page, dunno exactly what it is. Dowloading it atm. (47 mb)

I am really tempted to buy both this and XII-Stag sometime this week. Got to show support for these releases so that ports of Ketsui and Border Down may happen.
OK, that link I just posted is nuts. It shows the real end boss and if ya thought the previous movies were crazy this will definitly blow your mind. Excuse me while I go insane...
Yes...when that guy dies you know it's gonna be rough.
he even resorts to bombs. i stand no chance whatsoever. :chick:
that is the craziest shit ive ever seen
After watching that video, only this can describe how I feel:
:whoa: :whoa: :whoa: :whoa: :whoa: :bang:
That was, without a doubt, one of the craziest videos I have ever seen.
/me really hopes that he can buy this around 4/10.
So on the second run there is two of them right? Gonna take some time to one credit this one..
It doesn't look too bad until that final boss. The bullet patterns that SOB puts out are totally sick.
No, that's just on the Death Label version on the PS2 port.Quote:

original game exclusively made for the PS2 port, though I'm
unsure what has been changed. You may have also heard of
the Black Label version made for the arcade, which includes
Cave's tweaks to the original game--these tweaks have been
discussed before.
Ah, I see. Thanks. :)
Come on, it wasn't that bad. I mean, he DID have one bomb left.
Serisouly, I really, really hope that there isn't anyone who can defeat that boss without dying/bombing. I might have to sacrifice myself if there is such a person.
And it has to be illegal to make a more difficult boss than that in any upcoming shooters that may be developed. Sweet Christ.
Since I'm not so good at shooters, a nearly impossible boss makes me feel a little better because I know that this time it won't be just me who will have trouble. :)
Got this one pre-ordered, as any sane person should.
Not the best shot (nor was it 'legal'), but I hope it helps...Quote:

NCS doesn't have it up for ordering anymore. Anyone know of a place to order it besides VGD?
shop.himeya.com
Thanks Seven, but it seems as if the original image I had is fine for the guy I had to send it to.
I did a search on NCS' shop and still saw it, and NCS' page for today lists it. Orders might still be open on it.Quote:

There it is! I had been typing in the game's title in their search field and nothing came up for the past couple of days. Just checked it again and now it's back up. Awesome.Quote:

i just ordered a jps2 and dai-ou-jou from videogamedepot.com. free (ground) shipping, too.
i guess this is off-topic, but i'm certainly excited. :chick: :kirby: :kirby: :D
I might have to delay my purchase because of lack of TATE:(

Short new update.
My heart weeps for the loss of Cafe Globe..
Those videos were scary, but I went ahead and preordered at Himeya anyway. I hope my PS2 gets back around the same time as the game.
The thing about ordering from Himeya is they ship directly from Japan so it'll take a little longer than other online stores, 7-10 days as they say during the order process. I ordered my copy from them as well, though only because they also had a rare PS2 import (Atelier Judie) I wanted which no other store had.Quote:

Is anyone getting the poster with their pre-order copies?
*ominous voice
What is this "poster" of which you speak? I heard of no "poster" with mine, nor any other pre-order...

I assume NCS wil do their typical "random" placement if they get any in.
BTW 7 - You have a PM :)
Poster?! Probably not, better start searching ebay as of today.Quote:

If NCS fails me, I will sell my soul to you for one.
Might be old news but I didn't notice that there was a DDP ranking site at Caves homepage some weeks ago, link.

Mm. I don't mind too much though, it would be painful to have the game and not my PS2. Plus, if I ordered from NCS it would've been around $15 more (higher shipping plus sales tax).
Quick question, it's ok to pay 60$ for Dodonpachi for PSone right, it's new.
Sounds okay to me, especially considering it's new. The SS version goes for about $60 used, I believe.
Great, better fill out my order then.
So what's the status on the port having TATE mode? Obviously nobody's got it yet, but does anybody know for sure?
None for me, either. To be 100% sure, I checked my "You & Your Order" page to be sure it shipped... mine went out today. :)Quote:

in related news, videogame depot and ncs both are having trouble with the dodonpachi shipment, so it looks like they won't ship until monday. for most of us, anyway.
Is there any way to play import games without buying a jap PS2 and modding your original? I'm looking for a boot disc or something of that nature. This game looks amazing, but it's not worth buying a jap PS2 or possibly breaking my US PS2 just to play it.
Tyler, In a word: no.
There isn't a boot disk that won't work with a mod of some sort, be that one wire or seventy two...
Click, Cigs, You guys got totally screwed on this one. I just checked my order page and mine shipped today. I placed the pre-order like a week ago... That's total balls.
Cigs, you better stock up on smokes man. from the look of the movies you're gonna' need em' ;) At least I know I will...

Ah well, at least you guys have a nice little head start... Not that you'll need one.
winkityvink.
for the past week or so, i was looking into solderless ps2 mods, but there really aren't any foolproof methods. i finally gave up and ordered a jps2 along with dai-ou-jou (and vf4 evo). hopefully it gets here soon.)
we can only hope. no previous cave games have ever made it to america, so it seems unlikely.Quote:

well theres the flip top/swap magic disc thing. if you havent heard of it you basically just replace the top of the ps2. pretty basic and theres no soldering or anything. with the flip top in place you can use the swap magic boot disc.
How much you want to make a bet that it'll come out as 'Moblie Light Squad 3' in the US? :p
Just thought I'd hop in here and let all of you in on a little secret, that we didn't mention in our news today. We are getting a few Dodonpachi tomorrow. We're going to have enough to cover pre-orders... and should actually have 3-4 extra afterwords... so if you want to get one shipped tomorrow... you should order ASAP. :)Quote:

Hmm, I might take you up on that.

Yep, that's dai-ou-jou. dai-ou-jou translates to something something along the lines of 'peaceful death,' I think.
Good stuff. Thanks J2.
Hey Seven - Do you know what the poster looks like anyway?

Seven, where are the impressions? Come on man!
JM
I got the game today.
There was a problem with the replay disk. It skips like shit. :(
I'm just going to field request questions, as I don't know how to sum it all up... :)
Suffice to say, it's awesome.
I kinda miss the butt rock soundtrack. It was tops. The accordian on the first level is great, though.
That damn flyer in the box advertising the cell phone version of ESP.RA.DE got me all wet. I thought it was for a console port. Boo, Cave. Boo you for tricking us weakminded folks who can't read Japanese. Or look closely at pictures. Boo.
There's a lot of bullets in this game. Yep. And it's easier to rack up huge chains - I've broken 200 many times. Not as much of a remix as I'd expected. Only two ships, though...I thought there were more?
Death Label is frightening. I lasted all of 2 seconds in it. I was so ascared I immediately turned off my PS2. I don't think I will be playing it again.
2 ships and 3 ways to change them around... ;)
I prefer the B ship with the purple chick as the pilot.
I am so tempted to just go out to Network Video and pick this up....hmm.
Is the replay disc a DVD, or a sort of PS2 style game that loads and then you can watch it? If it's a DVD, are DVD players region specific? I know almost nothing about DVD players, I don't even have one yet, besides the PS2 and Xbox :(
The replay disk is an actual DVD. It is region specific (Region 2); however, there are numerous ways to either make your DVD player region-free, or just buy one that already is...
Rummy: Does your replay disk skip during the replay option?
As far as Death Label goes, I think it's a really neat thing to have on the disk. Of course it's hard as all hell, but it's quite fun at the same time. I actually managed to get to the third level before I was utterly crushed.
In the intro to the replay disk, you get a bunch of stills of the games spliced in with replay footage and text. Text like "You will never reach the end", Many players found this game frustrating", and the real cheer-up of "You'll continue only to make the same mistake again." It's so mean it's funny. :)
Why not just have a voice that laughs and makes jokes about your family while you play?
DVD didn't skip at all when I played it in my PS2. Only watched the replay of the first stage, though. It almost made me weep. I will never be that good. I loved the little text bits during the opening.
I really, really hate how your score doesn't stay on screen when you die.
I've also been using the purple girl, but with ship A. I know all the differences between the girls now, but the ships...I'm too lazy to try them both. Too much effort to press right and then circle, y'know?
There aren't enough x's for how much this game roxxx.
The reason I don't get very good scores is that I can't chain for dick. The only time I get a high chain is when I've got a hyper locked onto a boss. Other than that, I'm lucky if I can break 300... :(
I was also informed by a friend that "You gotta' do what?"
You gotta' BELIEVE!
The graphics are so nice- very colorful, smooth, and detailed. The videos online don't do the game justice.
I'm very surprised with the slowdown. I don't know if it was on the pcb or not, but I was able to get through so many tough areas because it slowed down frequently. It was helpful in the sense I would have died 100 times more, but after a certain point enough is enough. I did not notice any slowdown whatsoever on the bosses.
Other than that, the level design and bosses are of a level only cave can acheive.
Is there a "wait off" option? I'd be really surprised if there wasn't. That should fix the slowdown.
It doesn't look like there is a wait option. Slowdown gets crazy on the later levels.

Hey Seven - Do you know what the poster looks like anyway?
I looked for a wait option before I even started playing, and I haven't seen it either.
Balls. Big, fat balls.
Who am I joking? I can't fucking handle waiting for the game to ship on Monday. I'm dying here.
That poster makes it so much worse, Seven. That is a beauty. Damn Joker Jun. Damn him and his ridiculous talent.

That's the coolest thing ever.
FYI:
Death Label OMFG Boss mode!
So, just to recap: Is anyone elses skipping like all hell during the 3rd level of the replay? That's when mine gets especially bad... :(
Hm shame about the slowdown, I hope it doesn't bother me that much.
The slowdown is your friend... :)
Sometimes it's the only way I stand a chance :).
We'll what do I know, I have never played a Donpachi game before but I hate it when it speeds up again in other games. And if they didn't include that off thingy that DDP had does it mean lack of programing skills?
You become very accustomed to when exactly the slowdown will occur and when it will stop. The action jumps right back into place just when it should.
In other news: I've started to learn how to get the damn hypers rockin' :)
Cave often uses intentional slowdown. I would imagine that's the case here.
Learn to love it. It will save your ass more than a few times.
I don't think it's the "usual" slowdown. I've played every cave shooter with the exception of progear, and it's present more than any other. It's not to the point where its ridiculous or anything, but like I said more than any other cave game I've played.
I died a roughly equal amount on the harder levels then the semi hard levels (excluding boss fight), because of slowdown help. I also think they would have added the wait option if they could get the game to run without any slowdown.
Whatever the case is, this is still one of the best games i've played in a long time.
Death label makes it "boss only" mode. Only this time 1)the bosses are of "loop" caliber, and 2) You have full power to start off (and five Hypers).Quote:

Swift..
I don't think the Black Label changes are here.
I lasted about 45 seconds on black label, which is 40 seconds longer than I thought I would last. I also tried the second loop final boss, and I was able to get through a few of its patterns (id say 3 out of 100)- so I'm feeling pretty good about myself.Quote:

I think only people watching the dvds on their ps2 are having skipping problems. I had no problems watching it on my cpu, but I had to reburn it & remove the region to watch it on my regular dvd player. The dvd is really nice and well put together.Quote:

Mine didn't come today :(
I'll have to wait until next Wednesday now.
Ha, I'll have to wait longer than any of you, but do you hear me complain? :p Impatient addicts ;)
However, monday I'll have me a nice package from Japan that's only been underway for 2 months lol.
I didn't realize that your bombs get replenished and you can gain extra lives in death label. I was able to get to the final boss in death label by just using all of my hypers. Of course it's not REALLY getting to the last boss since its almost like a cheat, but it was a big psychological boost nonetheless.
Is there anychance that DDP will be shipping to the US anytime soon?(pfft yeah right)just wondering.
Words from the Big Black Guy,

I'm picking this up when my local importer gets it, which is hopefully sometime this week.:)
