I'm planning on picking up an XRGB-2+ in the near future and I'm trying to find all of the necessary cables. I'm having trouble finding quality RGB cables for my systems, but d-terminal cables are easy to find for GC and PS2, and I'm wondering if that might be the better option. I'd like to know how these two connection methods compare as far as video quality is concerned, and I need to know where to find good RGB cables(not SCART), in case I decide to go that way.
any suggestions?
I'm not sure Kedawa, about the differences between D-Terminal and RGB. As far as finding RGB cables, though, look for "Matt" on this board - I think he can help you.
Do you already have the XGB2+ pre-ordered? I had to wait damn near 3 months for a restock from NCS...
In my limited experience with the unit, since around christmas, I'd say I prefer the D link. It's a very close race, but the D cable seems to come out on top by a hair in the color palette.
for some reason, i have both d-terminal and rgb video cables for my gamecube. through the xrgb-2+, there isn't much of a difference.. d-terminal might be a tiny bit better, but i've never seen a television with d-terminal inputs. if you're ever going to use the systems on a regular television, i would go with rgb cables.
in any case, if you're going to hook up your cube to a monitor, you should pick up one of those hacked vga cables. it only works with progressive scan games, but the difference between vga and component video is remarkable.
For the PS2, you can use either the D-Terminal cable, a regular component cable, or an RGB cable. I don't have any personal experience with the D-Terminal cable, but from what others have told me it does give the best picture out of the 3 (very slightly). However, it's more expensive than what you'd pay for an RGB cable, and isn't compatible with older models of the XRGB. Component cables are the worst of the bunch, and should be avoided if you have access to the other 2.
Also, one advantage of using the PS2 D-Terminal cable instead of the RGB cable is that you'll be able to watch DVD movies through the XRGB-2. The PS2 likes to shut off RGB output for DVDs, so using RGB won't work if you like to watch movies.
For the Gamecube, the best you can do is get a VGA cable. With this, you don't even need the XRGB - all games that support progressive scan will run in normal VGA. It looks absolutely perfect; better than the DC VGA box! It is possible to make a combination RGB and VGA cable that will let you use the XRGB-2 for non-progressive games, allowing you to use any GC game with your monitor.
I have Gamecube VGA & RGB cables available, plus RGB cables for other systems. Unfortunately, I'm out of PS2 cables at the moment, though :( Drop me a PM if you're looking for something! For PS2 D-Terminal cables, try NCS.

It's a pain in the ass trying to find good quality RGB cables, especially non-scart ones. A lot of places selling the cables don't seem to realize that there are 2 different 21-pin RGB standards.
I'm not sure what I should do for the GC. I guess I could go RGB for the menues and non-480p games, and pick up that VGA box for normal use. I think I can hook up both at once since they use different AV ports.
If only XRGB-2+ supported progressive scan...
maybe that's planned for XRGB-3?
if it does, i'll definately pick it up. it would also be useful to have vga input, aside from the passthrough.Quote:
