Star Wars Galaxies Collector's Edition

I am glad I waited to preorder Star Wars Galaxies, as there is going to be a Collector's Edition of the game:

The Collector's Edition contains:

* One month free subscription

* Galaxies game logo sew on patch

* Art concept book. This will feature drawings, computer models, renders, character information, etc. This is estimated to be approx. 150 pages with a soft slick cover and embossed logo treatment.

* EXCLUSIVE pewter collectable of female Zabrak species.

I am now booked for the CE with overnight shipping. April 15th can't get here soon enough.

Still hesitant on this. Star Wars Galaxies in and of itself sounds incredible, but the track record for MMORPGs has not exactly been very good. On the bright side, I have faith in Lucasarts and Blizzard (WoW).

Bah. "Collector Editions" have been around for YEARS on the PC. The stock standard editions of Infocom and Origin games used to come with TONS of cool stuff.

The idea of packing these sorts of things into games is very much the same as videogames themselves - American, but adopted by Japanese.

yeah PC games have all kinds of collectors editions... almost every major RPG released has a CE counterpart

... as for Galaxies, i'm sticking with the normal one, only CE i've ever bought was Warcraft III, and that was because EB was having that sale where the WC3 CE was cheaper than the normal version

I'm glad to hear that there is another TNL regular planning to pick it up at all. Hopefully there will be enough of us to make it interesting.

one of my friends is already in a clan... right now they're eyeing spots to build a city once they get enough members...

It'll be my first MMORPG experience (not counting PSO)... So i'm looking forward to having the same online-community-fun i had with the early days of Counter-Strike

I'm waiting for the Xbox version. If it takes another year, that's fine, it'll give me plenty of time to enjoy all of the other XB MMORPGs :p Personally, online RPGs just feel better on a console to me (judging only from PSO vs. 5-6 PC MMORPGs). Well, maybe it was because practically everyone I knew online was playing and it was a new experience for all of us, but I dunno, it was good times.

Does anybody know if they will sell 3 month "packs" with activation cards in stores? The Sims Online is doing this so gamers without a credit card can add months to their account without the use of a credit card. I wouldn't want to have to link a CC to my account unless I have to...

They are selling the packs you speak of for PS2 EverQuest, so I have to believe Galaxies will get the same treatment.

How's their art style? I was never overly impressed with most Star Wars races looks being so conservative as they were. Chewbakka may be the best one, IMO.

I preorderd the collectors edition the other day also. When I built my PC, this was one of the games I was preparing for...so it better not dissapoint.

My only question is why is the -One month free- listed as part of the collectors edition, but not the regular edition...I hope thats a misprint or there will be a lot of pissed off people out there...

Why would be there pissed off people, that's standard practice. Right now Sims Online and Earth and Beyond are being sold next to game-specific cards worth a month of playing, and I've heard (and mentioned in this thread) of Everquest being sold the same (I believe the Gold Edition comes with one packed in).

Collecters Editions are common-place on PC. I never understood the "we don't get swag" complaint really. Last one of those I bought was the WC3 collectors set. Very nice, and Blizzard has been doing that for years. I think LEs were commonplace back with Origins games too. Nice that Galaxies is getting the treatment though.

Odd...thats a dissapointing change then. All the previous MMORPG's I've seen came w/ a one month free subscription (Everquest, DOAC, Anarchy Online, WW2Online).

Personaly, i'd be upset if someone said "Here, I'll sell you this game w/ near unlimited potential for 50$. There is only a slight catch; its gonna have lots of bugs and glitches that are gonna take us some time to iron out...but trust us, we'll fix 'em. And, even though its not going to be a a completely enjoyable experiance at first, we still need to charge you an additional 10$ to see if you like the game and want to stick with it. Have a nice day."

Anarchy Online is free fool to have, cost per month though. DAoC might be costly though. Not sure about the rest. And bet your ass Lucas Arts is chageing full for Galaxies.

Personally - I'll be playing Shadowbane. My friend is beta and I have to say: "It r0x0rz."

Anarchy Online didn't have a free month. They just included the price of the first month with the price of the original game. Alot of people didn't even realize that they had paid while they were online.

DAOC is the best MMORPG out there, IMO. I think Shadowbane has alot of potential with the PvPing issues, but the fact still remains that pressing P or Q on the keyboard and watching a meaningless blow for blow battle take place isn't what I call good gaming. I enjoy pressing the buttons, pulling off combos and tactics, etc.

I love DAoC - I'd play it more if I didn't anticipate Shadowbane so much for the small reason of TEAM WORK being such an integral part of the game. I can't think of too many MMPOGs that have good combat to them. No, I don't think DAoC has really good combat (passable at best).

Ya I know, all do it. I'm just not a big fan of that convention altogether.

If the game is enthralling enough (DAoC had amazing maps, IMO and environments) then I'll give it a go. I had a character called Odil and I was very high on some guild. I went to Florida on vacation, telling them I'd be back in two weeks and never returned, lol.

P.s. I wanted the name Odin but it was taken! Odil did sound stupid.

I don't know how the battles work in SWG, but the Star Wars universe you can explore is more than enough for me to purchase the game.

I doubt either will happen as I don't have the time to put 100's of hours into a character.
