depends....you wont know if its an a or b until you get it by the numbers on the die....tho i believe newegg has listed on their site what revision the chip is. gradually all chips will be a "b" but they have to sell out the remaining "a's" first.
2700? wow....you should be able to get that thing smoking tho ive heard of people pushing the 1600's (1.4ghz) past the 2.2ghz mark with a good chip.
OMG thats awsome!!! I'm not sure about which volcano fan to get. I looked on the website and it has it listed that the newer fans, while built better, are slower and louder (only 4800 RPM at 48 DB!) but it sais for athlons and stuf... I'm not really sure.... :-/ either way what do you think is a good heatsink for my processor, or would the one it came with work fine?
I've got an AMD Athlon XP 1900 with a Thermaltake Volcano 7, and I can only get it to run at 55c. I can not get it to run cooler. I've tried leaving the sides off. I only used the default thermal gel pad affixed to the heatsink, as I was told it would be more than enough.Quote:

Arctic Silver 3 is the best from what I hear. It runs for about $6 for the small tube which holds a lot more than you need :D
well from what i hear the temp i register is prolly about 10C cooler than the actual core temp of the cpu but in that case i'd still be around 40-43....IF thats the case and all im using is generic Radio Shack thermal paste :D

uh.... this is your first time building a computer, right?
and... you plan to overclock your CPU....?
im kinda confused. have you overclocked stuff before or soemthing? it seems that someone who doesnt know how to attach a fan to a CPU shouldnt know how to overclock one.

No, I've overclocked another CPU before, this is just my frist time BUILDING a computer! :D I'm not gonna do anything jurastic, just a little on the cpu and the gf4... maybe the ram :D
