Just been wondering this for awhile now. It was recently brought up in one of the many Zelda threads. Then after analyzing some of the latest character designs featured in retail advertising; I've began speculating even more.
Either way, I still love the game, but that would probably bring up some other questions.
Hmm... now that I think about it...
Apart from the cartoon, has he ever had any physical contact with Zelda? Sure, he rescues the girl, but usually that has some sort of... reward ultimately attatched to it.

He doesn't giggle and whine about thinking to much nearly enough to be a female character in a japanese video game.
Maybe he is a tough girl :) Brought up to be a fighter and all. Just look atCuteness and femeninity of recent Link design.
Yea, I mean you read my thread in fight club right? Namco's character design in Soul Calibur 2 just gives it away.

I don't think Link is a girl, although it wouldn't shock me if it ended up being true.

I heard if you beat Link's Awakening in under 3 hours Link strips down to a bikini, revealing his true gender.
