Unreal Original PC version

EB is having a clearance sale on older PC titles, I picked up the Original Unreal. I remember back in 1998 when the game came out and few people I knew even had PC's that could handle the game. Needless to say I never bought it. Well for 3.00 I could not pass it up.

I have to say for a game that is now about 4-5 years old it is pretty impressive. Graphics are not up to par for todays standards ,but its still not to shabby and fun to play.

I also picked up Myth II & Myth III for like 3.00 too.

i never really liked unreal. the weapons didnt feel like they had that "ooomph" to me. i did however like the blood games.

I'm with Dyne -- Unreal just wasn't very good. I guess I've always been hard to impress, as I remember my friend oohing and aahing over the second level's waterfall while I just shrugged and wondered when it got fun.

I made an attempt to play through it a few years ago, but it just couldn't keep my attention. Not to mention that the final patch still left its OpenGL renderer a mess, and it had semi-frequent savegame corruption issues. Lame all around.

I thought Unreal was a very enjoyable game when it first came out. When it was released I purchased my very first pc with the then incredibly powerful Voodoo 3 card.

While it obviously doesnt look as good as it did..its still asurprisingly nice looking game. The game still has the best looking sky ever (not enough Unreal engine games take advantage of the nice looking clouds the engine can produce..yea.its not that important..but dammit it looks nice!)

The music is pretty good and the stages still look good. In fact..there are some games out there now that still dont look as pleasing as this game (I'm playing Nightfire PC now and its horrid).

The weapons arent the greatest..but it never bothered me at all. I supposed everyone just expected stuff like the Quake shotgun and chainguns when Unreal came out.

For 3 bucks I think the game is excellent. If anyone has a pc and sees the game for 3 bucks its certainly worth it.

Jaded indeed. Why did you even bother with the Open GL renderer to begin with? Just leave it on Direct X mode..unless your card has issues with it I dont see any reason why you should even bother with the Open GL, Metal or software modes.

I never had ANY problems at all with Unreal..never had any save game issues as well, of course every pc config is different so I suppose some may have problems with it. You folks are just too picky..just like everyone else on this forum!! :D

I never liked Unreal much. The graphics completely blew me away but the game bored me quickly.

I was very surprised the next year when Unreal Tournament ended up being one of my all-time favorites. I was expecting a slightly improved version of Unreal's multiplayer and it was way beyond that.

I thought it was a good game, and it enjoyed it enough that I even bought the expansion pack (which was quite lame, unfortunatley). Although, I doubt I'd find it fun *now*, as the enjoyment I get from FPS games is largely tied to the technology.
