thats about $540 Im sorry but 540 is not COMPETITIVELY priced with the GBA which can be had for 70 for the original model or 100 for the new model

If that turns out to be the final price in america, they're fucked. You can buy two 2 PS2s, 2 Xboxes, or 3 gamecubes with that money.

If they truly felt competent about their product, they would price it competitively. Right now, it's just an over-priced cell phone that won't even run on one of the largest providers in the US (Sprint -- Nokia started making their own chips, which were slightly incompatable with Sprint's network, so they got dumped from the product line). Pricing it at $500, even though it does have PDA and gaming functionality, is ludicrous if they want to compete with the GBA. Right now, they're simply competing with the $500 Handspring Treo and the ~$600 Pocket PC phones, among other similarly-priced models.
This will not take the market by storm, unless it hits $200 fairly soon.
Remember folks, that is NOT the official U.S. price right now.

I have no want/need for a cellphone....nor a PDA, so the N-Gage is batting 1 for 3 in terms of nailing me in their "demographic". 500 dollars for a handheld? Fuck that, Ill go get me a TurboExpress sealed in the box with a TV tuner instead. At least that has proven titles.
EDIT: Also, am I the only one not keen on signing a fucking contract to get a handheld at a competitive price?

And.... Um..... that article didn't reveal anything new about the price that all of the other articles didn't already report. It said "under €500" in every other article we've seen so far so I don't see why this report is making people automatically assume that it will actually cost €500? Am I not understanding something?
So, I'll just repeat what I have been saying. At that price it's a tough sell for anyone. It'd be too expensive to be popular and thus it would probably be short-lived... Personally, I'd be interested in paying $150u or under. If the final product turns out better than expected I'd consider spending up to $200u... but that's my cap. I think most consumers would agree with roughly those numbers..
But the price has not been revealed yet so we'll just have to see. Nokia said that the system would be competitively priced with GBA SP in other reports.. so all this price speculation is just that.. speculation.
I think Nokia has to have enough sense to not sell it for €500.
I dunno where you have been, but whenever someone says the price is say..."Under 300 dollars" it usually ends up being $299.99
Im hoping that it would be waaay under 500 bucks, but unless it is very close to the GBA (not more than 150), then I dont see it becoming popular....plus, they are excluding people by making it into 3 things that not everyone wants or needs.
I am just saying that every single article on N-Gage has reported that Nokia said it would cost "under €500". It's not news. The price was not "revealed".
IGN reported that Nokia said it would be competitive with GBA SP.
Who knows what the final price will be. Nokia didn't disclose it so it's anyone's guess for now.

They are giving themselves a pretty big margin then...why would they say that if it wasnt probable that it could reach 300-400 dollars or more? I mean, its good to have a buffer and all, but shit, thats a big landing pad.
They shouldnt have said a damn thing, cause just the mention of 500 bucks turned me off right there. Not a smart move even if it doesnt end up being that much.

No CDMA version, No Verizon or sprint The #1 and #4 providers in the US respectively.
Cingular, #3 wont be fully GSM for a while, and AT&T, #2 has a very basic GSM system started.
Sell a version minus the phone and I MIGHT be interested.
I guess it depends on the context of how it was "announced". From the articles I have read, including this Gamers.com one, it does not sound like they announced any price at all but that in response to continuous questioning on the subject someone said it would definitely be under €500. For all we know the original question was "Will N-Gage cost €500?".... It seems like they were reluctant to say anything at all about the price so maybe whoever answered just gave the safe answer so they didn't get in trouble. Maybe they were not supposed to say anything and someone slipped up. Who knows... That's my point, it's all wild speculation.
I agree that it sucks that the quote was made at all, especially if the final price is going to be much much lower. It may turn people off or make people misinterpret the quote, as evidenced by this thread.
You should check out the articles at IGN and Gamespot.
And again, I am with you.. I won't touch this thing for anything close to €500. I am just not putting much stock in the quote. I don't think it's significant.. and I hope for N-Gage's sake that I am right. ;)
AT&T needs to upgrade their GSM faster. I was able to get service in my house with a regular Digital phone..like 1-2 bars..the most 3..and now since i got a GSM Nokia 8390 and than just inserted my SIM card to a Nokia 7210...I get no reception ever since i got GSM service.
and getting a UNLOCKED version of this to work with ALL mobile services, is going to cost you your life. I know, my phone is UNLOCKED and i had to pay $300.00 for my phone.
If Nokia is going to focus on gaming first and than cellular, and have it at a competitive price, just drop the phone feature COMPLETELY. Cuz im telling you this..a color phone right now goes for $250+. And since N-Gage is a color phone PLUS a game system, not to mention Bluetooth, and others
I found a Puzzle Bobble Vs screenshot at Magic Box. I think that it looks pretty nice. The sharpness and detail of the picture is impressive. There are a lot of bubbles. :)
