No one's posted in this thread for over four months, so I figured I'd bump it just for fun. It's interesting to read what some of the users were saying back in February, and how it compares with their sentiments now. :)

Someone hijacked my account back then. ;)
Heh.. seriously though, my interest in N-Gage has all but completely evaporated thanks mainly to the price.
It's all about the PSP now. :p
N-Gage NEVER stood a chance and I don't see why anyone ever had any interest in it.
PSP will be a great handheld.
(what? it will)

Pricing for 13 games and 11 accessories
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/groups/n-gage/cab.asp
N-Gage Wireless Headset HDW-2 $119.99 USD
Everything but that headset seems reasonably priced.
300 for that thing is not reasonably priced IMHO
It fits for what it is. It's a cell phone at heart and it's got a color screen. When those other color phones came out a few months ago they retailed around $300 without a plan. This does even more, so I think it fits. That goes without seeing how well it works and plays.
I thought tomb raider running on N-Gage was somewhat impressive, especially after seeing how Crazy Taxi turned out on GBA.
But the GBA version of Payback (GTA clone) really looks good, for a portable "3-D" game. Too bad they haven't found a publisher yet.

I saw some movies of the game in action and it runs pretty smooth.
That does look pretty good for a GBA title.
UPDATE! My local GameStop got some POP in for N-Gage, and I must admit, if I like nothing else abotu the thing, I love the game cases. That is all.
I just noticed this thread... and I don't know if anyone cares... but I actually played with one of these at the Game Developers Conference a few months back.
I couldn't really get a great impression of the unit because a) the units were bolted to the display stands b) the games were all alpha build stuff. Maybe because of the fact I couldn't move it around, the unit didn't quite feel comfortable and the buttons still felt like phone buttons. I felt the original GBA felt way better (it would be a step above the SP for ergonomics in my book though)...
Dpad didn't feel like a quality gaming Dpad but rather a better version of a typical phone controller. It also felt really annoying that the 2 buttons were surrounded by phone buttons... sometime I'd press a button to mash down a whole set of keys at once.
I only got a few minutes with Tomb Raider but it was still early build and I don't know but it looked really rough. 3D wasn't quite PSOne quality and the screen looked really dark. Apart from that the aspect ratio of the screen was kind of disturbing.
In any case, I think someone told me the unofficial pricing even back then was like ~300 bucks so I'm not surprised about the 299 price range. In any case, when this thing hits, I really anticipate the companies to start giving out rebates anyway when you sign up.

I'll answer and add to neg-kun's comments in a bit. busy.
He's right. I just got a real nice, fliptop color screen, all the works phone, and it cost a pretty penny. Luckily, I got a rebate on it, so it all worked out, but I think my phone was around 200 before the rebate.Quote:

Wahahaha! .....quality.
well, my cel is getting kinda old. Taito Memories might be worth it, and it comes out a week before my birthday. Portable Cameltry? yuh-ess
The N-Gage has a lot of great ideas, I'll have to credit them for that.
Wireless handheld gaming is no doubt the next step, I'd be pretty surprised if the PSP didn't have some type of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth feature. The ideas pitched in that IGN article sound very promising. Imagine if you are able to "connect" wirelessly with other players without needing to even meet with them. It's kinda like a wireless LAN game where you just set it up and see if there's anyone also willing to play. Of course, there are issues with this, because obviously it wouldn't work without more people owning an N-Gage and the same cartridge. However, the idea sounds very cool.
Another neat feature is the (overpriced) Bluetooth headset. I'd love to be able to play my games with a wireless headset, I hope this is what this accessory does in addition to letting me talk and listen in on my phone calls.
Unfortunately, the N-Gage shouldn't have games like Red Faction, if this handheld is trying to appeal to the masses, you need more mainstream fun games more in the vein of Taito Memories. You need Pac-Man, kart racing games (edit: it seems like there is a kart racer in development, but only mentioned on IGN), Tetris, and Wario Ware-style games. You know what else would be nice? Worms! You can play with your buddies on a long car ride or lounging on the couch, without wires!
At least with these games, it doesn't matter if the graphics suck. I am very skeptical of how popular Tomb Raider will be to an audience that can afford to shell out $300 for a handheld/phone when they could just as easily shell out that much for a PS2 and Angel of Darkness with much better graphics and true 3D gameplay.
On a final note, the ability to link up the N-Gage with the PC could lead the way to piracy issues, esp. with the availability of a 64 and 128mb flash card...
Here's some pics I snapped of the promo materials which Capt. Veggie was recently discussing for you to see :)
Clamshell game cases? Horizontal box layout? That's very nice. :)
It's still way too expensive for me... but the products look pretty good. :p
