How do you refer to yourself (Your international Identity)
For as long as I can remember my international identity has always been confused. I am Canadian. I know that because I like hockey and disagree with everything America government does. I laugh at your censorship laws (in stark contrast to ours). I giggle at puritan-esque values. I poke fun at you on a regular basis.
On the flip side of that, I am extremely American. This is a result of American media being so prevalent on Canadian air waves. When I refer to myself in certain circumstances, I'm proudly Canadian. I know my Prime Minister. I know the way my government works. However, when I refer to myself in other respects I think of myself not as Canadian but as North American. When I say president, I'm not refering to Jacque Chirac of France: I mean Bush. And, sadly, a lot of my colleagues know as well. I admit, the President thing is a bad example, but what I'm trying to say is that many a Canadian knows American life, politics so well, that it becomes a part of their own identity.
In short, my international identity is screwed. I was curious if other Canadians had this problem.
