Today I went to EB to return a game that I didn't really enjoy, and used the credit towards Capcom VS SNK 2 (Xbox) and my WindWaker pre-order.
I also bought a subscription to GMR magazine and got a 10% discount card. It's a pretty sweet deal, if you buy at least 3 or 4 games a year at EB -- as the discounts eventually pay for the subscription. Also got the first two issues for free.
Anyone else take advantage of the subscription offer?
Yes I have it. Received the first magazine when I signed up and the second in the mail.
The 10% discount significant if you buy more used games like I do. Frankly, I don't see the reason of buying a game new if you can wait 2-3 weeks for someone to trade it in and then buy it for about 5-8 dollars off and then 10% off of that.
Some games like Windwalker - I will buy new because I know its a game I will keep indefinately. Other games are worth saving a few bucks and getting them used.
The Magazine is really not that impressive, IMO. I find that there reviews a little weak.
MEH..GMR = Game Informer. Same goes for their little discount thing.
Just a hint of advice, add a piece of scotch tape over the barcode on the card. This prevents the barcode from rubbing off. Thats if they havent done so already. I know my old EB that I worked at didnt do that. I went in and showed them that method even tho I dont work there anymore.

The discount made the subscription more than worth it for me since there's an EB near me that sells mainly used games, I save a ton of money.
Yah, I got it for the same reason I got GI.. I wanted 1 issue, but it was so cheap to get a full sub, I'd feel stupid not taking advantage of the offer.
I think I like it a bit better than GI.. my overall impression is that they don't skew their review scores so dang high. Plus, they covered the GP32 a little bit. I mean, c'mon!!
I subscribed to GMR when I picked up the first issue a few weeks back. Unfortuneatly, they haven't learned from the past - they ship their books w/o a bag, so my magazine comes to my door looking like the dog got to it before the mailman did.
Hard cover + no plastic = trouble
Eh... it's 10% off used games only, I hardly buy used games so it wouldn't be worth much to me, now if it was good towards new gmaes too like the EB Frequent Buyer card they used to have I would get it.

Wasn't that frequent buyer card like $35 and only 5% off? You had to spend almost $500 to make back your initial investment.
Since I buy a lot of used games, I got the sub. Better mag than GI but I still consider it secondary to the discount.
That frequent buyer thing is old/phased out. It hasnt been around in the states for awhile. I know the UK still uses them, cuz when I was working at the Manhattan Mall, I would have European tourists coming in, showing us the cards. Unfortunately, we would tell them we cant accept it as we dont use it here.
