Am I alone in finding something odd in this news article?
I was reading through the Philadelphia Metro (a newspaper which is basically just a ton of summarized wire reports) during lunch today and I come across an article about Sony, taken from the Bloomberg wire. The headline reads "Sony Corp. accused of patent infringement," and is about a case against Sony where their digital cameras were found to use technology from another company unlawfully. However, read the first sentence and see if you pick up on what I did.
"Sony Corp., the world's largest video-game maker, infringed patents for digital-camera technology and should have to pay $171.4 million, a patent-licensing company's lawyer told jurors in a federal trial."
The (short) article continues to go on explaining the case. Now, what strikes me as odd (and maybe for you too) is that in an article, completely unrelated to the video game industry, Sony is being referred to as the number one game maker before the bazillion other markets they are in. Is Sony really beginning to feel and present itself more like a video game company than an all-purpose general electronics company? I understand that the Playstation brand is Sony’s biggest moneymaker right now (and has been), but I was still surprised. I mean, would you refer to Microsoft as the number three video game maker as opposed to the number one operating system vendor?
Sure it could be just that the author was simply looking for a title for Sony and number one video game maker sounded the loftiest, but maybe Sony’s image really has changed that much.

If Japan didn't exist, maybe.
