I've been looking for a quality PS2 arcade stick for months now. None of the import shops around me have anything decent, and I haven't found anything good on any websites yet. I've heard about the Xarcade, but it's damn expensive and I'm not sure how good of a stick it is. I hate using a pad for fighting games, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanx.

Thanks for your help, I'll check this stuff out. I already looked at the ascii stick, and heard of the mas stick but wasn't sure where to get one. Apparently it's the best joystick from what I've heard. Again, thanks.
Find a Namco PS stick. This one is just perfect.
I'm a bit leery of X-Arcade... Bahn had his Dreamcast controller ports blown out by it, I recall.

Scroll down from that link to see just what Bahn has to say about it. I've stopped using the X-Arcade on my DC after reading this- he said it shorted out his domestic DC.

Assuming the ascii FT2 is the same as the DC ascii FT, it is indeed a very good stick. It's made with Japanese arcade parts, has a nice octagon shaped well (making precise directions easy to find but still gives plenty of give for rolling motions), very responsive.

$30 for that RedOctane stick sounds incredible. I'm curious about how this one is. It may well be good.
I've been thinking about getting a MAS stick (the arcadey feel would be great on a bunch of the games I have)once I have enough money. I was wondering if anybody knew how well they worked with those adapters. See, I was thinking about getting just your basic ps2 model and I already have an adapter for ps controllers on the dc and it seems like every system except the GBA has an adapter that will let you use ps controllers. Hell, you can even find one for the PC. It would save me money on the extra cords in the stick and I could use it to play a bunch of shooters and fighting games. So anyone got some info?
Are the ASCII's compatible with Xbox and Gamecube? I mean the arcade stick. I heard some adapters work, other don't.
That Red octane stick looks like a great deal, although the actual joystick seems a bit short. But for 30 bones I think I might pick one up. I'm sure as hell not paying 60 bucks for a Namco stick, so this looks like it might be the way to go.
My old Namco stick used to work perfectly, but now the joystick feels sticky and is hard to move in certain directions. I really have no idea how to fix it, but it would be cool if I could.
I think I have one of those Namco PS sticks, it's in a box with Tekken 2 characters on it I think, I haven't used it yet....I think it was $10 at a kay-bee...but I have this gray Saturn one I use that's similar, by Hori, it's pretty good, some used game shops still have them...
the redoctane looks pretty good, unless the stick/buttons suck. it never actually says the buttons stick are arcade parts or anything (just 'arcade sized' and junk about the case).
(ive said this a bunch of times on this board to other joystick questions before) personally i say, MAKE YOUR OWN. casing is the only moderately hard part and even then, that depends on how much you care for the looks of your stick. or if that redoctane stick sucks, buy arcade parts and stick them in there (if they fit). cost for parts (off happcontrols.com) are approx $14 for the stick, $1/button (cept the player start ones which are $2 i think). they come w/all the springs and switches. wiring is pretty easy w/quick disconnect terminals. and um, any questions if you think about it just ask i guess...or look on any one of the many 'build your own arcade controls' sites

The best PS2 stick is the Tekken 4 one. It's superior to the yellow/black Namcos from a while back.
I think a lot of us make our own sticks (or have friends do it) because it's cheap and easy. The parts will cost you about 20 bucks, casing about 20 bucks (though you can just go the cheap wood route), and a board will cost you whatever controller you use...overall, you save a good amount of money and if you make it from a PS2 pad, then you can use the adaptors to play it on DC, GC, and Xbox...Quote:

I would make my own stick-I think It would be a fun little project-except I have absolutely no idea how to do it. Anybody have any website suggestions? Anyway, I was also looking into MAS sticks and was reading about all the different options and got confused. I really don't know anything about joystick hardware, I just want a really good joystick.

This is the Custom Arcade Sticks thread on SRK.com. Several people have posted their projects on there, and exactly how they went about doing it. If you want to just clone one of theirs, you can pretty much just look at their sites and connect the dots.
I've designed a custom box, and ordered joystick parts already, I just have to go get the wood and brave the cold of my friends woodshop to get started.
It's actually a lot of fun, and you wind up with a stick that works great for you, with whatever artwork or button layout you want :)
