I wouldn't say that. Some poeple say Square did it first with Hanjuku Hero on NES in 88. I haven't played that so I can't say how much of a SRPG it is. Aside from Hanjuku Hero, Quest did beat Square with Tactics Ogre, but not by much. I'm pretty sure Front Mission came out in the same year. Of course, there's always Ogre Battle, but that's a bit different.

EDIT: According to GameFAQs Front Mission came out in February of 95, and Tactics Ogre October of 95, so you just may be right. Anyone know if these are the actual release dates?

My love of strat games is well documented, tactics, onimusha , and fire emblem are all day one purchases if i have to sell plasma. That said, tactics looks especially good to me, i read the nintnedo power spread on it, and not only do i like the races(usually a stickling point for me), but the classes seem deep enough for me to get a team that i want. Plus the multiple diversions you can get into seem like i could be putting some serious life-time into. The only thing i disliked about ff tactics on psx was the story was overly convoluted and dark, this looks more enjoyable and light hearted and less intense.

I may wait a few days after it's release to get it. I want it badly but I also want food :). still it's tempting enough to sell something off...

I've only got 3 problems with the game, about 10 hours in:

1) You can't turn the music off.

2) You can't go into a store and see what changes an item will do to your stats, you have to go to a sub-screen to check it manually.

3) The difficulty is nowhere near as tough as the PS game.

I read that when you have an item selected in a store you can press "start" (or maybe "select", I don't remember) and it shows you the increase/decrease you get from the weapon.

You read wrong then.

If you select an Item in the store, before you buy it:

Start: Does nothing.
Select: Tells you what it is, and if you press it again, it tells you what classes can use it.

It does tell you what numbers the offense, defense, etc the item has, but not the changes to your stats.

Meaning, you must remember what your numbers are to make sure they go up or down.

I'm confident I read it correctly...

ew. my biggest problem with tactics ogre gba is its [lack of] difficulty. the enemy doesn't choose its targets intelligently. does ffta have the same problem, or is it something else?
