01. The graphics are GREAT. Art design is exemplary. You can tell Nintendo really cared, as everything in the game looks great.
02. I love how Nintendo set up the game world... it feels a lot richer and more interesting than past Zeldas. Especially since you enounter so much shit out in the ocean... has a really cool adventure feel that the other ones didn't have.
03. Along those lines... the sense of adventure, the "full world" feeling, all that, is amazing. Nintendo REALLY succeeded here. Great game feel. Very rich.
Now onto the bad...
04. Umm... the camera stinks. It's really bad. It seemed to be where I wanted it to be about... 50% of the time. Which is not a good percentage.
05. For that matter, I dont like the control at all. Sure, sure, I know that this control scheme was heralded as "brilliant" back when Zelda V was released... but I dont think its all that great. It's hard to get really immersed in a game when you constantly have to map items to different keys and shit (I know, I know, it's been going on since the first Zelda, but I dunno, it feels like a drawback). Plus, the problem is WORSE than it was in the 2D Zeldas, because you have to worry about the context-sensitive actions... "wait, let me check the corner of my screen to see if I can grab something"... I dont like the control much at all.
06. The dungeons are great... for a Zelda... but I dunno, I dont think Im a very big fan of the overly puzzly nature of them. A lot of the puzzles are brilliant (the water level with the stone statues you control in particular) from a "wow, the designers sure are imaginative" sort of way, but they didn't seem much fun.
07. The storyline is kinda wack... Nintendo doesn't really have great storytellers...
Overall... I do think this is the best Zelda yet... its leaps and bounds ahead of Ocarina of Time... and its a lot of fun... but I dunno Im thinking maybe this series has been overrated for a long time... the puzzly nature of the gameplay can be a turn-off, and yea, like I said, I dont like the control or the camera.
Still a damn good game though... if I had a GameCube I would get it ASAP. In fact, its weird... on one hand I think the game is excellent, wonderful even, and on the other hand... well the Zelda formula is starting the get old and tired... its to the point where you pretty much just know what to do all the time because it's keeping in line with past Zeldas...
You make some interesting points and most of them are valid but not big enough to damper the whole experience. I actually feel that the control scheme is what separates Zelda from a ton of other games. You have to strategize in certain circumstances. Just preference, I suppose.
