Cheap, $15 for the offical one or so. Plugs right into the back (covers up the power slot, hooks go into the smaller holes on the left and right, plugs into the expansion slot), and then into any open controller port.

I got to play a couple hours today (mostly messing around, I've yet to even leave the island). Classic moment for me was running down the hills after I spotted a hog; it was a mad dash! I got one nitpick about the game, and that is the occasional jerkiness of the free camera. You'd think it'd be as smooth as the SMS camera, but moving it left to right is sometimes bothersome. Just a small nitpick.
agonyIn: zelda = gay
Kidnem0: O___O
agonyIn: i dont like it at all
Kidnem0: you = gay
agonyIn: you like it :-\?
Kidnem0: if you say because of the graphics, YOU are the gayest muther fucker on the planet. ever.
Kidnem0: I'm guessing you like it
Kidnem0: and you're just being a knob lol
agonyIn: no seriously i dont like it

Kidnem0: what about him?
agonyIn: not the lil blonde homo on it now
Kidnem0: what are you talking about?
Kidnem0: omfg...so the game sucks because you don't have the little green hat n stuff for the first hour
agonyIn: the graphics are :-\ too and it seems way to childish
Kidnem0: link to the past has the exact same graphics style, except its in 2d and you like that
Kidnem0: define childish?
Kidnem0: no swears?
Kidnem0: no blood?
agonyIn: no
agonyIn: no
Kidnem0: omg bright colors!
agonyIn: it just plays and looks like a kid game
agonyIn: its hard to explain online
Kidnem0: plays!?

Kidnem0: its the exact same gameplay as the zelda 64 games...just more refined. it has a better camera. only main difference is cel shaded graphics
agonyIn: do you like it though.
Kidnem0: hell ya, played to the second dungeon, seems fucking awesome
agonyIn: :-\very rico
Kidnem0: rico?
agonyIn: gay
Kidnem0: dude, you're not giving me ANY reasons why its bad, or you don't like it...

agonyIn: just like MGS SOL i just didnt like it
agonyIn: there was something about it
Kidnem0: still, this is WAY different
Kidnem0: you liked zelda 64
agonyIn: yea
*you can go back to the beginning and keep reading because at this point the whole argument became totally circular*
*sigh*
I would never use "gay" or "fag" or any homophobic slang...but that was the only way I thought I could get through his thick skull...
Well after a short time playing all I have to say is this... hell yeah! :)
Now this is why I bought a GameCube :D
Link's legs still look funny though ;)
Best line ever.
~ see sig ~
Got home late and only played untill you have to go get the shield but thusfar it seems awesome in every way.
No N64 blurry vision here to make me stay away!
Nah, same here. Just picked it up at EB and put in on the shelf. The only reason I preordered was to get the neat-o bonus disc, which I also neglected to open. Color me jaded, I'm just not excited. (Full disclosure: Z64 felt like work to me, so that doesn't help.)Quote:

How is explaining something online different than in person or by voice, unless the person has a limited grasp of the vocabulary.
"Zelda is not good. It sucks. It's way to...what's the word? Oh yeah lame. It's way to lame and uhhh...yeah."
I don't even care if the kid doesn't like it...but atleast give me a better excuse than "its gay"... lol
OMG HIZ ANSWERZ WAZ TEH GAY!!!!
The moment I talked to that little kid with the runny nose, I knew I was in for something special.
I'm not sure why, but i was expecting the game to play exactly like Ocarina of Time. Luckilly, I was mistaken. I'm very pleased after about 4 hours of play. The light and funny atmosphere of the series has definitely returned. I've laughed out loud a couple times even. THIS is why I love this hobby.
I got the game today, and put about five hours into it.
You know, I wanted to like this game, and I think at some points I did, a little... but I think I have gotten too old, and too jaded to enjoy this type of game anymore. :(
I just don't want an epic quest anymore. I want to play Ikaruga, or Street Fighter or something.
Its really upsetting that this genre is dead to me. Feels like a part of my childhood just died. :(
Oh well, at least Amplitude comes out tomorrow.
I second that. Maybe someday down the line I'll check it out (if I ever buy a GC again), but I never finished OoT because of the game style, and I even grew tired of Metroid Prime despite it being an obviously great game. I'm much more interested in the new fighters or the WC3 expansion.
Guess your tastes change.
Let me guess... you're "old" too? ;)
Snag the pig!
I got the pig!
*tosses pig into the water*
*retrieves the pig*
I got the pig!
*tosses pig into the water*
That is NEVER going to get old.
These graphics are beyond amazing. I've only played the first 15 minutes (starting the game over with the girlfriend tomorrow) but that water is so cool.
This is going to be a masterpiece, I can feel it.
- Kabuki
I just got it... very beautiful... good gameplay... nice dungeons and towns... fn minigames... wonderful in every way imaginable...
The whole game has this whole Adobe Illustrator, vector graphics, look to it, which I'm really digging.
I spent a good two hours just tooling around Windfall Island. To all those who have made it thus far, have you gotten Tingle's balloon thing to work? I must have spent 100 rupees on that bastard, yet he did nothing.
has anyone managed to get 25 letters sorted in 30 seconds??
it's tough sometimes.. i think i've only done it twice..
otherwise, the game is brilliant.. i'm glad i finally have a zelda i can play without throwing up everywhere.
The dungeon and puzzle design is freaking amazing. I'm only on the second dungeon and it freaking rules. I love the way it looks. This boss is amazing.
Been playing for a while, as well.. ANd i love it.. But man do i suck at these types of games, i'm stuck in the first island...
I love how you drip water, once you get out of any water type enviroment..
ha
I'm in the Dragon Dungeon place... my god the heat effects are amazing... this is by far the best looking game I have ever seen...
Games like this make me realize why I'm such a Nintendo whore. :kirby:
Question: did anyone not name him Link?
Me, but it was unintentional.
Lets start a Zelda help thread so this doesnt get filled with spoilers...
I have a question for you guys...I've put off preordering/buying this since I already have the Japanese one and I'm poor. If I wait a month or two before buying it do you think I'll still have a chance at getting a new/unmolested bonus disc? I will pick it up at some point, but right now I can't afford this + a Freeloader/US Gamecube.
Kabuki: I had a lot of fun with the pigs too. I love how they faithfully swim back to shore each time only to be thrown in again.
I usually use my first name, but I used Werewolf instead this time... it's kinda funny :DQuote:

I named him Grumble, in reference to the "Grumble Grumble" guy in the first Zelda. I thought I was naming my save file though, not the character :) No biggie, starting over anyways.Quote:

The trees/grass/foilage that you can run/crawl/cut is just to much fun. :)
yeah there's a lot more of it this time around. reminds me of a link to the past. when i started playing, i was being a bit obsessive compulsive by cutting down every bush, tree, and blade of grass i saw. i gave up after 10 minutes. there's just too much of it.Quote:

Agreed.
The fact that they did increase the foliage this time goes a long way to make it seem more convincing me thinks also.
I can't seem to get the Zelda tune out of my head :)
I still remember the day when I bought the very first Zelda, I used to get scared every time those damn hands would chase me in the dungeons
I'm at a friend's house right now, and I have to say, this game is freaking amazing. He's at the Forbidden Fortress right now, and that Temple of the Gods had me staring in awe. I can't wait till I get a cube of my own and buy this.
I still don't understand why they had to put it in the same universe as OoT.
Meh.
I called the guy Nikorasu, since a) he has the same colour hair as me, and b) since I discovered that all the Links are different people, my whole illusion of him being Link was broken. Probably for ever.
Quote:

The way I see, the reason why there are more than one version of Link is because the "Legend" of Zelda is passed down from generation to generation, and things change along the way, which is not uncommon in oral tradition. This is just the same story, retold by new generation, with things altered to match their world view.Quote:

P.S: I named him Link, because that's his name, I would never alter it, in the same way that I would never change Mario's name, given the chance.
This I did not know. Can someone explain this more thoroughly? I haven't played all of the Zelda games, so maybe I never noticed discontinuity in the storyline, but I assumed it was all connected.Quote:

Wind Waker takes place 100 years after OoT, right?
In the very begining it talks about the hero of time appearing just before all hope was lost and the world was at it's darkest hour, assuming they are talking about Link when he pulls the master sword in the Ocarina of Time and sleeps till that time when he reappears to save the world.
A friend of mine was playing around with Ocarina the other night. He renamed Link to "Ass" -- which proved to be rather amusing.Quote:

Meh.
What I don't get though is I thought the timeline was:
-OoT
-Majora's Mask
-Link to the Past
-Zelda
-Zelda 2
(GB and GBC games notwithstanding)
So, if Link 'disappears' after OoT and Wind Waker is 100 years after, then how did Hyrule get destroyed if all the other Links stopped Ganon. Or, do all the other Zeldas happen after WW? If that's the case, how did Hyrule get 'remade'...?
ps - you learn this 10 minutes into the game. I don't see what the big fuss is about
Gee, thanks Hero. :p
That's not the spoiler code. Use [ spoiler][ /spoiler].
I also used to think it was all about one character
but heres what ive managed to gather from reeading interviews with miyamoto and other things
its alot of different links and zeldas but it sone continuous story
Ocarina of Time comes first and then that same Link is in Majora's Mask
then you have WW happen
they you have a link to the past
then you have the first game and the second game (i think theyre the same link and zelda also betwen the first and second one)
i do believe links awakening is supposed to happen during a link to the past if i remember correctly
no idea when the oracle games happen
theres alot of hints to the connections and you can see it from the story
in LTTP your told about the sages who centuries ago sealed Gannon away in the golden land and then in OOT you help those sages do that
and playing WW youll see the connection with OOT (i dont want to give any spoilers away)
for those who have played it all i will say is the master sword part = WOW
to me its kinda like Castlevania
ill explain
Ganon is like Dracula in the vania series always coming back, and Link and Zelda are bassicaly the Belmont Family
so while its a physically different person each time fighting the eternal evil its the same line
Spoiler intensive stuff (gameplay, in-depth story, etc.) can go in here.
Quit trying to lure people away from my thread. ;)Quote:

I thought that's what the official thread of anything was for. If not for that stuff, then all we'll be saying is "Yeah, this game is great." :p
So, uh...yeah, this game is great. Going to work is not great though. Hmph.
My friend named his link Ratboy. I thought that was very mean.
The GBA hook up is more fun than I expected. Tingle is the greatest character in the history of video games.
That about sums it up for me. :)Quote:

I thought Hero's point was that in WW, the land is covered by water, but in LttP it's land again. OOT and LttP seem to fit together well since in the end of OOT, Ganon gets sealed away , and in the beginning of LttP he gets released . So it seems by tying in WW to OOT the lost the continuity with LttP...unless the WW ending proves otherwise.
Eh who cares, why bother making sense of it.
part of what your wondering about gets explain a bit later in the gameQuote:

when you get the master sword you actually travel to Hyrule Castle which seems to be under the ocean, you also see colored class artwork of the sgaes who helped seal ganon away in OOT and they all look exactly like the people from OOT

No, they are both the same thing.
Zelda a bit moreso, but pretty equal.
Question is, does Link and Zelda have a Fei and Elly type life cycle thingy happening?

The Wind Waker has an awesome artistic style and I hope they keep it in the series. Cell shading fits the game and is done extremely well.
Windfall is beautiful with it's ashy spores in the air, the ocean is also just as beautiful and the free roaming of it all is just breathtaking. I am overjoyed with how much bang I got for my buck here.

I got a chance to play Zelda The Wind Waker for a bit of time (that is, around 7-10 hours). Here are my thoughts, being totally honest:
01. The graphics are GREAT. Art design is exemplary. You can tell Nintendo really cared, as everything in the game looks great.
02. I love how Nintendo set up the game world... it feels a lot richer and more interesting than past Zeldas. Especially since you enounter so much shit out in the ocean... has a really cool adventure feel that the other ones didn't have.
03. Along those lines... the sense of adventure, the "full world" feeling, all that, is amazing. Nintendo REALLY succeeded here. Great game feel. Very rich.
Now onto the bad...
04. Umm... the camera stinks. It's really bad. It seemed to be where I wanted it to be about... 50% of the time. Which is not a good percentage.
05. For that matter, I dont like the control at all. Sure, sure, I know that this control scheme was heralded as "brilliant" back when Zelda V was released... but I dont think its all that great. It's hard to get really immersed in a game when you constantly have to map items to different keys and shit (I know, I know, it's been going on since the first Zelda, but I dunno, it feels like a drawback). Plus, the problem is WORSE than it was in the 2D Zeldas, because you have to worry about the context-sensitive actions... "wait, let me check the corner of my screen to see if I can grab something"... I dont like the control much at all.
06. The dungeons are great... for a Zelda... but I dunno, I dont think Im a very big fan of the overly puzzly nature of them. A lot of the puzzles are brilliant (the water level with the stone statues you control in particular) from a "wow, the designers sure are imaginative" sort of way, but they didn't seem much fun.
07. The storyline is kinda wack... Nintendo doesn't really have great storytellers...
Overall... I do think this is the best Zelda yet... its leaps and bounds ahead of Ocarina of Time... and its a lot of fun... but I dunno Im thinking maybe this series has been overrated for a long time... the puzzly nature of the gameplay can be a turn-off, and yea, like I said, I dont like the control or the camera.
Still a damn good game though... if I had a GameCube I would get it ASAP. In fact, its weird... on one hand I think the game is excellent, wonderful even, and on the other hand... well the Zelda formula is starting the get old and tired... its to the point where you pretty much just know what to do all the time because it's keeping in line with past Zeldas...
I got to the forest dungeon today. I really want to be able to sail where I want to, on the way to a new place I'm constantly pulling over to some new little island. As for the visuals, I didn't think the graphics were the best I'd ever seen till I got to the fire dungeon. The fire dungeon boss is the biggest boss in videogame history, right?
You really don't like the camera diff? I think it's one of the best. Most of the times I find it to be in the perfect position, and if not a quick flick of the c-stick makes things fine again. I've only had the camera freak out on me once during the battle with the boss in the second dungeon. I was next to a wall and the boss had me trapped between it's claws, the camera got way to close and I couldn't see which way to avoid the incoming plume of fire.
Hahaha, oh how the tables have turned...Quote:

You make some interesting points and most of them are valid but not big enough to damper the whole experience. I actually feel that the control scheme is what separates Zelda from a ton of other games. You have to strategize in certain circumstances. Just preference, I suppose.Quote:

The camera is probably the worst thing in the game, but it doesn't seem to folly around in most scenarios and since you can control it freely in most circumstances, it works well enough. Not perfect.
Traversing the ocean is so fun, though. I know the Japanese gamers got sick of it but man, so far I can't get enough. Mind you I've only been playing it for a couple of hours.
The storyline isn't rich with plot twists like MGS or anything and it won't win awards but it keeps you immersed with the character, which is where a ton of richness in the series lays -- with the characters.
I'm actually stuck on what to do with that bird girl. I threw her into the cave and... oh wait. I best not say anything. I guess we just look for different things in a gaming experience.
Two views, both with the same outset: the game is awesome.
I'd give it GOTY thus far, but who knows with the next 3 quarters hold.
Andrew:
Use the bottle to get some water by the rock. Use the water on a withered bomb flower, and throw it at the rock. Then the spring fills up again and you can swim it
Hope that helps.
Questions like these are the reasons my brain explodes anytime anyone tries to find plot continuity when it it isn't there to be found.Quote:

The only time I ever had a problem with the camera was in the metal gear solid area, when you have to use the barrel to get past the gaurds. If you stop by a wall when in the barrel, the camera zooms so close into you, you can't see anything around you. Other than that, it seems fine, since I never keep it on automatic, whenever I go anywhere I'm always moving the camera around.
I never said the game was bad, I just said you're playing too much of it if one of my posts caused you to question your existence.;)Quote:

Xenosaga is damned good, actually. But I'll probably start Wind Waker this weekend anyway.
They way I understand it, Gannon is a constant. He is timeless. The Gannon in The Legend of Zelda is the same in OoT, and A Link to the Past, etc.Quote:

kind of, it seems to be an archetype type thing, there will always be a hero, a villian, and a princess. the princess zelda thing was mentioned in zelda 2, that the original zelda was kind of a sleeping beauty, type story and all the princeses that followed were named zelda after the first. but also since they all were matched with the three triforces, gannon with power, link with courage, and zelda with wisdom(from oot's end). so the triforce seems to motivate the continued melodrama
Link and Zelda, however, are born anew every generation.
This game rocks. I just beat the Dragon Roost. woot.
Yeah Dragon Roost was so amazing... right now I'm going to put all the pearls in their statues or whatever... good times...
Picked it up earlier today and tooled arround for 2hrs or so. I am impressed at the quality of this title and pleasently surprised at the expressions the characters are capable of. I'm also pleased to see the game go from mature to comic and back to mature without it feeling forced.
"What's with the get up?"
No, I dont. In fact, you could say I hate it. Maybe Im just less tolerant of 3D cameras than I was two or three years ago, but the camera is awful.Quote:

Andrew, yes, like I said, my complaints are not enough to damper the overall experience a great deal. If someone came up to me on the street and said "hey what do you think of wind waker" I would say "great game, def get it if you have a cube"... HOWEVER, the control seriously needs work if you ask me (I dont understand how people call this scheme brilliant), and the entire game has this feeling of "sameness"... like I said, my friend and I got through chunks of the game not by thinking of things logically or what not, but thinking of them like "what you did in old Zelda"... setting the wood sticks on fire, shooting the eye with my bow, so forth...
Sure... its cool that you have that chime when you solve a puzzle, or that chime when you get a treasure, all that... but Ive already played 70% of this game in past Zeldas (if it wasn't for the leaf, it would be 90%).
This is not a good thing if you ask me. I mean, it was cool years ago, but when I can pretty much sleepwalk through the puzzles, beating them just on the virtue of my familiarity with old Zeldas... it might be time for an overhaul, Miyamato.
Been a while, but I think the final boss in Slave Zero dwarfs it.Quote:

The art of course is great but so far I'm not amazed with Zelda, after a hour of play last night I set it down and haven't picked it back up.
Don't murder me yet though, I'm sure like Oot it picks up beyond the first simple dungeon. *-neo
I was actually suprised at the amount of new types of puzzles in Wind Waker, as well as the new uses for the old weapons. Unless you are expecting a complete overhaul, I don't see what the fuss is about. There are certain aspects that need to be in the game for it to be a Zelda game.
Kinopio... like I said, I dont care for the fact that I can play the game not on intuition or how clever I can think, but because I know past Zelda games. That's all. Is there a "fuss"? I wouldn't say so. This is my opinion, nothing more. The game simply feels too much like old Zelda games to me, and what I am saying is that I (not you, I) think it is getting stale to me.
nice rant Diff...
I wasn't even talking about you specifically, which is why i didn't quote you. You weren't the first one in this thread to bring up Wind Waker's similarities to past Zelda games. I realize that people have different opinions, and I don't need a bold font to remind me of what I already know.Quote:

I wouldn't say so. This is my opinion, nothing more. The game simply feels too much like old Zelda games to me, and what I am saying is that I (not you, I) think it is getting stale to me.
So how about that talking boat? pretty crazy.
I think the game is awesome so far - the only petty gripe I have with it , is it seems that distant scenery/stuff looks kinda of blurry and less detailed until you get closer to it.. Am I the only one to notice that - I mean I know Link's not supposed to have eagle eyes or anything and I guess that's what Aryll's scope is used for <shrugs> minor gripe at best, I'm enjoying it so far -- got a chuckle out of the uhhh "relationship" between Orca and his brother  -- I look forward to possibly seein em duel it out if Orca keeps practicing those loud fighting techniques
:)
Yeah, well...most people can't see things very well at great distances. I'm pretty sure what you're talking about (Jetman) was done on purpose.
Yeah man youre probably right :) like I said very minor gripeQuote:

I think the blur adds a nice touch to the "realism," while also giving a visual focus on Link and helping to hide pop-up regarding small pieces of scenery and people.
However, I desperately await the next $30 I get a hold of, because the fact that I played through Metroid Prime and am now most of the way through WW without owning component cables hurts me. Both of these are gorgeous, gorgeous games and require being watched in as good condition as they can be. This S-Video hookup needs to go, it's time for an upgrade.
Speaking of which, the next installment of the Oddworld Quintology will feature a centaur who has an unnatural attraction to his boat. And the game will feature ICO like gameplay revolving around that character dynamic.Quote:

But that's neither here nor there.
As for the blur, it just felt like it was some effect left over from Sunshine, but that's fine by me.
i just ordered component cables tonight :lol:Quote:

you will be happy with them
i have them and they do rock
I am about 6 or 7 hours in, and I am loving every minute of this game. I am literally blown away. I LOVE the graphics. I love how they used Realistic focus, not everything should be in sharp focus like lots of developers think it should. I also just love how Link plays in this game, it controls extremely well, and the camera works great.
I have yet to have any real challange yet in the game but I don't care, I am enjoying myself so damn much.
The whole Sailing aspect I think is fantastic, I love expoloring this big ass ocean and just watching weather move in and the sun setting and stuff. Just plain fantastic.
If the game continues are it is now in my mind it easily surpases the last two 3D Zelda games. Link to the Past so far is still better, but this game fits fine in Second place.
Just wonderfull overall.
I finished it last night, and I think it's my favorite Zelda, maybe the easiest, but most fun in my opinion. I know I'll play this one over and over unlike Oot, which I thought was more of a chore than this one. The ending is pretty good, but not great. LTtP had such a great ending , since then Zelda games have had pretty shitty endings. This one isn't shitty, but it could've been better. I really hope they stick with this art style at least for one more game. It's hard not to enjoy a game that's as fun to look at as it is to play.
If they could somehow change the control scheme while keeping the same Zelda quality then I'm all for it, really.
I happen to find this game to be awesome. The control scheme is aging but there are some new fighitng mechanics in the game. I had a fight with two pirates on the lookout tower and this guy hit the poll off of one of my attacks and came smashing down through a pot, then disappating into smoke. The other guy just slew off the tower into the water.
Good times. It's good to have two opinions, but this game feels like Zelda with newness to it in the dungeons. I personally want something new in a new Nintendo franchise, not an old one that's already A++ in my books.
Oh well.
Fer the record: I've had zero problems with camera or control.
The camera in Wind Waker is the best I have ever had the pleasure of controlling.
realistic though. The further something is a away the harder it is to see. With a telescope of high magnitude, even complex objects don't look at they appear but more vague in detail and he's only using a small hand held. :) Give him a break!Quote:

It's the same damn camera everybody bitched about in Mario Sunshine.Quote:

In close quarters it actually follies up a bit but compared to most games out there it's pure gold. That doesn't really excuse it but I suppose that come with the other large portions that the camera is awesome in.Quote:

The camera was easy to use in Mario Sunshine and its easy to use in this game. Some people just suck.
