Ok im stuck now, I just went into the Forbidden Forest (ohhhh) and Im in a room with moving tentacles coming out of the walls and whole bunch of baba bebu things, whatever those things that shoot you up are. I went in one door to find a sort of cable car/bridge thing hanging but I cant reach it and 2 leaf things on seperate islands....
what do i do now? I just got in the dungeon, mind you.

Sorry, seeing water rise and fall and do so in a realistic way, but fashioned in this art style...it's too much.
I think the GC will go down as the best console for water physics, at the least.
I just got the game today.
Graphics: If it weren't for the blurriness in the distance, I'd say the game is nothing short of stunning (up-close, they're incredible). "Realistic" or not, it's hard on my eyes. Having no better video option than composite certainly doesn't help, either. *sigh* I need a new TV...
Everything else: Top-notch! A true masterpiece.
I'm kinda getting sick of action/adventure games (3D ones, that is), but this one is still awesome.
It seems the designers were watching The Land Before Time during development or something.
Anyone who has seen The Land Before Time a few too many times knows that Linder's (kid in Forest Haven) little sound effects are straight out of TLBF, thanks to Petri.
Just something funny I noticed. :)
A few minor complaints:
1. They really should have put some more time into the story. I hate the way Link comes across the wind waker wand, I mean, he doesn't do jack to get it, it just falls into his lap, like an afterthought.
2. I don't like how the wind waker wand works (hooray for aliteration!). It's too bemani-ish.
3. I don't like how they recycled some of the more annoying songs from the Ocarina of Time.
All minor complaints though.

Well, yes the Talon and Ingo were based off Mario and Luigi, but if you look closely at their scarf-holding thingies, you'll find that they're actually Bowser heads!

Not sure if you realized this, but you can simply hold down a direction at any point before it reaches the center. It was kind of a pain when I thought it had to actually be timed, but once I realized you actually didn't need rythym at all it became a lot easier.Quote:

Got past the tedious Forbidden Fortress...and can now see the beauty of the game, definitely one of the few games to hold my interest recently.
A few things:
The wind waker isn't as impressive as the ocarina. Link looks like Lawrence Welk with the thing, and it sounds like church bells.
Ever look at a person's face while looking up at the sun? Their face darkens but the eyes remain bright white. So many little details.
Love how the sky is patterned after real maps, noticed at least 6 constellations so far.

The dungeon inside the mountain with the dragon on it has some incredible fire and heat effects. My jaw dropped the first time I saw the fire columns shooting out of the lava pits.

God damn, an hour and I made no progress in that damned forbidden fortress. Make one false move, and you're due for another 5 minutes of walking back. Fucking annoying. I hope none of the other dungeons suck this much, this is water temple comprable.

After getting caught like twice it's pretty easy to not get caught anymore. That, coupled with the fact that it's a really short dungeon, hardly make it a pain in the ass. At least to me.
I haven't been playing that much, so I'm only up to the Forbidden Woods, but I'm really enjoying it so far.
Just got it today, and I'm stuck on the fucking Forbidden Fortress. Hooray for tedious dungeons right off the bat.

And if a guard sees you they give about a second to stop moving so you don't get caught.

Did anyone else notice the dude on the Windfall Island looks like Mario? He walks outside in front of the Camera Store and he is sometimes down in front of the eskimos shop too.
He looks a lot like a humanish mario. Hes got the red overalls and a mustache.
Thats what I first thought when I saw the Mario Imposter. I see I wasnt the only one who noticed it. About the Forbidden Fortress, I didn't find it hard but just very tedious. I hate stealth in games like these. For example Geradu Fortress was a pain in the ass. I also thought the dungeon was poorly done and boring, but the the next dungeon does make up for it. I just started playing today and so far so good. I cant quite put my finger on it, but theres something about the game that makes it a little less great then OoT. Still a great game.

I have that problem with many games but thats not it. I knew before this game came out to expect it to be not as great as OoT. I guess I was just expecting something else. Like I said though, it is still a great game.

I did get caught a few times, but only because I was careless. I don't think the dungeon is that tough - only maybe because it's placed so early in the game.

Aside from the fact that the cameras won't look through walls and instead gets too close to the players, there's nothing wrong with them. Neither game is so intense that you can't spare the half-second to manually adjust.Quote:

I aways playing the OoT disc the other day, and my mom was like "is that Peter Pan?".
I'm not having any problems with getting past the guard dudes, that stuff is a cinch. I just can't keep track of which group of them to go after.
I got to the crab boss at the island with the dragon at the top, then my daughter made me stop so she could play. :)

I got the rupee's from the first sliding puzzle in the cabana from the buttler and went into the fireplace dungeon and got some rupee's down there. (Saw some prong-like things so I assume that's for the hammer, which I don't have yet).
This game is just as good, if not better in most aspect, than the OOT. Atleast to me it is. I also love how they put a ton of the old stuff back in like the baddies being pig-like guards and the heavy soldiered guards also. Great graphics.... simply stunning.
I also find there to be a ton of humour in the title. If this game takes 40 hours or more to play through to completion then I'm more then happy.
gerudo fortress was hard, didt you just have to snipe the girls in the head to knock them out, then walk right past? i think thats how i did it.

After playing for quite a few hours, I find that the only thing that bothers me is the extreme vastness of the sea. It is amazing how large the area is, but there is nothing to do while going from one place to another, abd going across the map can take a long time. I just wish that some of the islands took up a bit more space. Other then that I am really enjoying this game.

I have a love hate relationship going with the sailing aspect of the game. I love how the sea is broken into quadrents, like some space exploration games I've played in the past. But then again, I don't like how slow and time consuming sailing is. Link needs to strap an outboard motor on that boat. I do love it when the it's a sunny day, and a few sea gulls fly overhead while that theme plays. It's very cool looking.
Also, how exactly do you use the sea charts? I thought that once you opened them a place would be marked on the main map, but that isn't the case.

ditto about the love hate thing, as for the sea chart, some times, it its a small island, you have to highlight the map and press the button to see the island, just be sure to have the art fish paint in your map, so carry a lot of bait. you have to have the fish paint the location on your map, but he is pretty conspicuous, jumps out of the water.Quote:

Ah well as far as I can tell they only indicate where the treasure is when you compare it to the regular map. Once you get or open a treasure map that glow you always see in the water is the mark that was on the map assuming it's an important thing like a heart container or something.
Check the chart vs. your main map. Be sure to find the fish any time you enter an unknown section. Then, match up the chart to the map. As far as in-game goes, you'll see a glowing spot (the same as 'normal' treasure locations) that matches up to what the chart says. Once you find a chart treasure, you can't again, and the chart gets a check mark.
Exactly, getting the markings on the charts for the map really help and are almost a must. Infact, they are a must.
I know it's annoying because it costs you bait, and that stupid fish calls you small fry which makes you want to beat him relentlessly and fry him in a pan with oil and lemon.
It helps, although traversing the sea is long and tedious, but once you harness the destructive power of the wind everything is MUCH easier.
Just so you know...
After getting the bow, you can bait the fish-guy in any section you already have and play a game where you try to hit him 10 times. 10 nets 200 rupees and anything below is 10 rupees per hit.
Besides, bait isn't that expensive.
I got it for my mom yesterday. She plays AC for an hour a day, but found SMS to be too tough.
I played it for a couple hours with her, and overall, it's good. I'll play it again when I can borrow her GC and she finishes with it.
So, thumbs up so far, just past dungeon 1.

Come to think of it I never died once playing this game. I was stuck sometimes yes... especially near the end. I never once died though. Anyone else? The game was kinda easy in that way but figuring out what/where to get stuff sometimes was just the same as all the other games IMO. Still, a VERY GREAT game. Easily best game so far this year.
Meh, toughness does not = good game.
I think the puzzling is what was supposed to be hard (figuring out what to do) but even those weren't too hard. The game is just plain fun which is what every game should strive to mimic.
Whether it be frustratingly hard or not.

I've died twice so far. The vertical hold on my TV is going, so I can't see the heart meter at the top of the screen. I got caught in a fight both times and didn't know how much health I had until it was too late to do anythng about it.

She seems to really like it and is very impressed with it, and that's a good thing. If moms can dig it, and it's not too tough for her (like SMS was, where she wanted to play it more but just could not do certain things), then it's a good nintendo game.
That was amazing. However, I'm not sure if I like it more then OoT as an overall package, and that final battle was less than impressive after demon Ganon.
Just wanted to toss that out there, I might do a full bit on my thoughts later.

I don't think reading a huge Zelda: Wind Waker thread is the best way to go about not getting spoiled. Wait until you get the game and then come in and talk about it.

I think it's been in development since Majora's Mask -- the concept. I believe they scrapped the graphics engine, not the entire concept.
But Miyamoto has been known to do that, so who knows?

A quick note on the ending.
How fucking badass was it too see tiny ass Link jump up and plunge his sword into Ganon's skull! I thought that was one of the coolest things Nintendo has done in a Zelda game. The puppet thing was rather gay though. I liked the battle vs Ganon. I thought it was kinda cool how he didnt change into anything. You just fought him, and him only. But him turning to stone really sets it up for an easy sequel. Link goes back to pull the master sword. After that though I thought the overall ending was rather weak. Oh well. Also, is there a point to playing the new saved game?

I haven't started it yet, but I'd imagine it's a second quest sort of deal, with harder enemies and the locations of Triforce pieces and other sunken things changed around. But that's just a guess.
JOY, triforce pieces in different spots. What fun.... that would be rather QUEER!
The Hyulian text, if that's a word, is now in english. I think. You also get to plunge your sword in Gannon's head again, joy:D
