Do you plan on importing the GBA SP? Waiting for March 23 to pick yours up? Discuss.

i was going to, but then ncs upped the price $40 due to the (artificial) scarcity.
It's back down.Quote:

No its still up by $23. I preordered with ncsx.com and they're gonna send me out mine once the costs get back down to normal.
well, it's down a little, anyway. when i ordered, it was at $130. in any case, it's going to be $100 in under a month, so i'm just going to wait.Quote:

GameGizmo.com has it for $129, but it doesn't ship out until Feb 21.
I was going to.
So much good domestic stuff has come out in the last month that I just spent my money else where.
I'll preorder a domestic gbasp fo' sheezy.
I pre-ordered a while ago from NCS, but I'm on the "wait till the price drops list" before they send me mine. Speaking of which, time to check out their site for any updates...
I've got one: http://www.neomega.net/modules.php?o...rder=0&thold=0. :D
Someone should compare the GBA w/Afterburner and GBA SP. If no one has done it yet, or will, I'll probably do it, whenever I get my GBA SP that is. Hopefully this week
I am waiting until I can test one of them in person, the button placement seems strange so I will have to try before I buy.
Mine shipped out today from VGD. I'll have it in my hands tomorrow morning. :)
here is a site that gutted the GBA SP..more detailed than lik-sang

Couldn't have explained it better myself. Even then "fo'sheezy".Quote:

I'm going to wait until I can see how much of a difference the light makes before getting one.
I'll probably import, unless Nintendo wakes up and gives us the black model.
ill probably be waiting a bit even after the official one comes out
well not sure yet i need to hold this thing because i love my standard GBA but damn it the more i look at this thing the more i want one
GAH i dont know
but im deffinetly not importing
I wouldn't have but I couldn't pass on the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance GBA SP bundle, if they didn't have that I would have waited and picked a USA one up later this year... but it was an item I could not refuse ;)
I'm waiting until the Summer to pick up my copy.
!!!
Just got this thing at the door and popped in a game. It's quite possibly the coolest piece of hardware I've ever seen...
If the improvement over an afterburned GBA is only marginal, I think I'll wait for a price drop...
Today I noticed that GameGizmo has GBA SPs for $129.99 in stock, so I took the plunge and ordered one. Hopefully it will arrive this week. :)
I am waiting for 3-23 myself... I'm not paying $130. Congratulations to all who've gotten an import one however.
I've put down a $20 deposit and will be trading my current GBA in at Electronics Boutique. To be brutally honest, I haven't played the GBA lately thanks to that dark screen.
Good impressions, bbobb. The absence of a headphone jack on the SP is a downer. I hope the internal speaker is good and loud, unlike the regular GBA.
DAMN IT WHY DOES THIS THING MAKE ME WANT IT SOOOOOOOO
chickens save me
:chick::chick::chick::chick:
someone compared the ABGBA vs GBA SP

What's this "trapezoid effect" the first poster is talking about?Quote:

Why thank you sir. Personally the lack of a headphone jack doesn't bother me, but I've never used headphones with a handheld in my life. I don't think the speaker is any different then the GBA one that I can tell... but you're no longer covering it up with your thumb all the time. ;)Quote:

A 'Trapezoid Effect' is a prism like effect that starts off at the bottom and gets narrower towards the top.
What causes the Trapezoid Effect?
The trapezoid effect is a result of the size limitations we are working with in the GBA. Ideally, the light source (covered in metal) should be approx 4-6mm longer than it is - for exactly the reason you think, to eliminate the trapezoid effect. There are two chip LEDs in that light source, one on each end. The concentrated light coming from each LED is what causes the effect.
Unfortunately, making the light source longer would mean cutting into the area that is not covered by the screen cover, which would cause more ugliness than the trapezoid effect ever did.
Thanks. Is it bothersome?
If you want to be anal and a 'perfectionist' it might. But which are you concentrating more on? Gameplay or the flaws? If its very noticeable, than yea, it can get bothersome. But usually its more noticeable ONLY with a camera.Quote:

I'll be picking up a Platinum on 3/23 to match my 12" PowerBook I'll be snagging in May. :D
WHAT THE HELL?!? How have I never seen anything about this glorious piece of hardware? What rock have i been HIDING UNDER!?!? Warning: Having a girlfriend may significantly remove you from the video game scene, as can being POOR, and away from COLLEGE, without the INTERNET and without your good TNL friends smacking you in the head when you're being STUPIDLY IGNORANT! Fantastic...another THING I have to buy, and I just bought a new GBA because my old one met with an unfortunate accident...GREAT.
Well, GameGizmo just jacked up the price $10 to $139 now, which kind of sucks. But they do have the black model, which I still want the most.
I'd been considering trading in my old GBA for store credit towards the SP, but now I'm thinking I may just keep it as a backup. And the black one looks more and more inviting each time I see it...
Urgh! Such a hard decision :( Not to mention that since there is only another $95 to the FFT package, a small part of my brain is telling me to order that too. *beats self over head* :bang:
And neither could I. Curse you Wolfie and VGD's low, low prices! :bang:Quote:

I just got my Final Fantasy Tactics Advance SP unit, it looks nice :)
I can't wait till I get home later to check it out, the box is a lot smaller then I envisioned :)
Meanwhile, I've had an Afterburner kit for months that I still need to install. I figure with the GBA Player that it won't matter as much if I screw up the install.
Ya know, I've never noticed the trapezoid effect on my Afterburned GBA before.
I'll get an SP when it gets cheap (or if I can find someone to give me some decent cash for my old one)
My GBA SP (Azurite Blue) came in today and it is a sweet piece of hardware. I highly recommend it. Gotta snag the headphone adapter. :)
With the link cable port being on the top of the system and the cartridge slot on the bottom, I guess the E-Reader is incompatible with the GBA SP. Are there any other hardware or software conflicts with the GBA SP?
Nah, the E-reader works fine, it just plugs into the cartridge slot... you didn't read my impressions did you? :p The link cable plug on the e-reader was just a pass through.Quote:

I did look at your impressions last week, but it was a brief skim. I'll give it a nice looksie now, though.
Thanks for the info. :)
Nice impressions, bbobb. Stinks about the GBA/GCN cable taking up the entire top of the system. Guess I will use my first GBA as the connection device for the GameCube. ;)
What are the perks of importing? Besides the importing benefits, can you play NTSC titles on the thing or is it strictly formulated for Japanese market games?
As with every other GB release, it's compatible with the software from other regions. Advantage to importing- getting the system early.
Oh. Without the benefit it's just for impatient gameboy fans then. I guess I'll stick with my Summer statement.
Theres no territorial lockout on ANY GB systems. You can play JPN games on a US system, vice versa.Quote:

Benefits of importing is getting to play it before it comes out stateside.
Isn't that just what I already said?
Wow that's really cool. I only ask because I haven't had a Gameboy since the original way back in the early 90's when Judge Dread was all the rage. (Maybe that was gamegear, I had both) And i'm looking forward to getting back into the portable game and knowing I can play some quality japanese titles along with everything I've missed thus war (Mario re-releases including Yoshis Island, Warios, Metroid Fusion, the New Zeldas, advanced wars, golden sun, klonoa, etc.). I can't wait.Quote:

This summer though, this summer.
Heya, got mine earlier today a touch late (got shipped to my old address), I plugged it in almost 3 hours ago to charge, at first this orange light was on, but it's since turned off.
Any idea how long I'm supposed to charge the thing the FIRST time I use it? I don't wanna power it up prematurely and screw up the battery. If anyone knows, much help'd be appreciated :D
I believe that once the orange light goes off (the charge light, the one on the bottom), the battery is fully charged.Quote:
