The screen shots there don't look bad at all IMO. I've gotten my preorder in on it.

Are there any screens? Art looks Mars MAtrixy
EDIT: Oh, I found them... Damn, why can't a more import freindly system get some shooter lovin?
Keen-o. I'm curous to see how this side attack system works...

I can't see it being too convenient to pull off in the midst of a storm of bullets, but you never know...
I'm getting a J PS2 soon so make sure to post on how it turns out. I can't afford to buy ever import PS2 game I want, but those screens look great to me. :)
Back attack... interesting.
Now, are these multi-directional shots a gimmick, or are they actually going to implement tests of your ability to use them within the stages?
Thanks for the link, G.O.D.
It got 26/40 (6,7,7,6) from Famitsu if anyone cares.
Ouch. Whenever Famitsu gives a game under 30 it's usually a sign of major suckage. Case in point, KOF GBA and the new Batman game that comes out today.
Just about all shooters get under 30 in Famitsu Weekly. This doesn't mean shit.Quote:

Agreed. Those scores didn't sway me. Even if it isn't the next DoDonPachi Dai-ou-jou/Ikaruga, it can still turn out to be worthwhile.Quote:

By the way, this delay on NCS' shipping of XII Stag is aggravating. Looks like it'll be coming Tuesday probably.
Fucking red tape. :bang:Quote:
from NCS' page
The remaining imports expected this week are due tomorrow. We should have received them today but the Customs broker misconstrued the PS1 Superlite 1500 version of Cotton 100% as 100% cotton clothing (different import duties) and held up everything. We grit/clench/gnash teeth and try to learn from these episodes... and move on.
Why are Japanese web sites always so damn fugly?
I checked NCS today... and now it's finally shipping. :D Way to be there.
$60?! No. Not now or ever.
It could be worse. Most import shops in the UK would be asking closer to $90 or $100. Sometimes you have to realize just how lucky you are. (No, I don't pay those prices. I got mine from NCS.)Quote:

Funny that, as it was NCS price I quoted... :wtf:Quote:

I take it you have a friend in Japan then who sells you the games at cost price?
PRICE CHECK!
NCS Price: $60
Tronix price: $59
VideoGameImports.com: £49.35 ex. VAT / £57.99 inc. VAT ($77.19 / $90.71)
YesAsia.com: $59.99
$60's the best you'll get for reputable importing. DEAL WITH IT!@!!!11
:p
Nope! I'm just not paying $60+ dollars for this game. That's all. :DQuote:

$90- $100 for one game!?? Egads. :wtf:
Good move Leynos... even with international shipping added, I'd reckon you're getting a better deal.
NCS' service is one of the best, IMHO. :)
Simple way to grade the Famitsu scoring- how much do you like Mobile Light Force 2, what score did Famitsu give it? Work it from there to find out what the real value of their scoring is.
James
I've got my copy of XII Stag now.Quote:

For the back attack, you just use your ship's tailfire to toast enemies (a lot of 1-hit quitters will go down by that, but you need to be careful doing it to larger enemies).
With the barrier, you get points for each bullet that it soaks up. Soak up enough and they can be worth 1,000 each.
Impressions please :) .
Don't know if this has been mentioned but Taito is holding a scoring contest for XII Stag, and the winners get models of the game's ship. Damn that thing looks the Mosquito from MM. *-neo
It looks like a PC Win98 freeware shooter. 60 is a wee much.
All this joystick waggling is quite knackering.
Using the side and back attacks gives you big multipliers (or something), so you end up using them a lot. Luck would have it tho, that there's lots of enemies that attack from the rear and sides. The L1 & R1 are mapped to left and right as well.
Didn't know how the barrier works tho. Thanks.
Later.
Kenshin, is this worth $60? I'll probably pick this up at some point, but I think I'll wait and hope the used price drops in the next couple of months. If you've reviewed it on your site feel free to just link me, but I couldn't find it.
Also- can't the joystick wiggling be assigned to a button like Psyvariar?
Cigs, I haven't played it, but there are some in depth impressions over at shmups & I seem to remember someone saying that it could be mapped.
JM
Thanks JM, I should have thought to look over there.
I thought the game was fun, but I was dissapointed in the length of the game (and stage length). The ground stages were very good, but unfortunately there were only 2-3 of them. They were a lot more "manic" than the cloud stages, and seemed as if they were from a different game.
The bosses could have been more difficult and varied, but were very well animated (considering the hardware).
I like the game, but definately not for everyone. I think most people are better off waiting for dodonpachi.
I didn't mind the $60 tag on it. The graphics are not bad and are on par with a Raiden Fighters title. I had heard this was a limited print run game, so it may be a good move to snag this ASAP after you've got DDPDOJ.Quote:

IIRC, the joystick wiggling can be done with a button. I've gotten the hang of that- move towards an enemy then tap once or twice away, but as Leynos said it can be "knackering".
That barrier does do some damage to enemies... basically it's a bomber but with a neat transparent effect in lieu of a traditional flame blast.
Oddly, stage 4 seems a tad bit easier than stage 3 (the first ground stage). The last stage reminds me stylistically of something in Formation Armed F, but with modern 2D graphics.
When the multiplier shows up in big numbers from an enemy killed with side or rear fire, that's just to tell you you've raised the multiplier to that. Frontal shot kills are scored using the multiplier shown at the bottom of the screen.
I'll start on a review soon and will let you know once that's up. :)
Thanks for the info. I really hope this doesn't turn into another Psyvariar. (price/availability wise)
I've seen Psyvariar listed for $59.99 at Hyper Game Action ( www.hypergameaction.com ) just now. It does say "Contact us for availability", however- but so do a lot of the listings for some reason.Quote:

Problem is I MUST have the Capture Box version.
It seems XII stag will eventually fade out like Psyvariar did. Taito released not to many copies from them. Maybe Psy might return through budget labels, but without the extras then. I guess Taito wants to play it safe and just make enough copies to get out of costs. Damn...

It's possible... Psyvariar could reappear on Success' budget line, but definitely as a game only pack.Quote:

I wonder what the Capture box is going for now... I've got it, but I'm just curious.
If XII Stag returned on a budget label, it'd probably be on D3 Publisher's lineup.
All right... I've gotten a review of XII Stag posted on gameoverDude.
Have at it. :D
You'd do that for me?! :DQuote:
