I think we used up our allocation of hatred for Russia during the cold war. They're just too pathetic to hate now.Quote:

I believe that was a running joke a while back. Perhaps dating back to the religious debates over the summer? Anyway, I'm not the one who made it up. I apologize if that offended you, but it's really the lightest of comments.Quote:

I have a strong opinion regarding Christian, and especially Catholic dogma. I was raised with it and I do not like it. Expressing my opinions on religious doctrine (whether reasonably held or not) does not make me a bigot.Quote:
in atariguy's thread about the candycanes you seemed only to happy to reduuce his efforts to crass recruiting rather than a genuine expression of his faith, and an overwheliming thread of negativity in almost every one of your posts in any religion related thread. You always enter with a preconception of what the christians are thinking, and you proceed without taking into account what they actually say.
That said, I was not involved in atariguy's first thread at all. I wasn't even online during its whole duration. I stepped into the follow-up NPR thread to clear up some misconceptions about the First Amendment. It so happened that those I corrected were advocating Christian viewpoints, but I didn't even come close to taking a stance on religion.
Seems like you were the one who saw the avatar and starting making assumptions. Read the threads, man. I'm not making this up.
I think you need to do some traipsing. Here's that thread. I read myself having a perfectly civil discussion with the now *Reverend* Captain Vegetable as well as LittleEric, Master of 7s and yourself. I'd even say CV would vouch for the quality of our discussions despite our different beliefs.Quote:
i am not about to go traipsing about the threads looking for all the quotes, and in many cases, i assume you will say i am overreacting, and perhaps i am, but having been online for quite some time, and knowing the hospitable reaction christians generally get online, regardless of wether they are being obnoxious, or just answering a question,as happened in phoenix's calling all christians thread, you have always been there with the most insulting of the haters.
Actually, that was what I referred to earlier (generally). Those posts were littered with smilies and I even told Hero (whom I've met in person) that I loved him.Quote:
i recall you making the comment when hero said he was going to hang himself, and you said, one down, and a few million to go, to you that was a joke, but given your general attitude, it was like trent lott saying that to clarence thomas, maybe no harm was meant, but in light of your other comments it was troubling.
More importantly, where's this general attitude you speak of?
It wasn't a joke at all. It was a direct response to Master of 7's claim that the Roman Empire fell because of failing morality. Sure, all those other things were the real cause. I was highlighting the (uncharacteristic, fortunately) silliness of 7s' assertion. And I, and others, pointed this out to you in that thread - when you tried to accuse me of hating Christians!Quote:
finally in the orgy thread you mentioned, i just ducked out as veggie seemed to be doing well on his own, but you insinuated that christians were responsable for the fall of the roman empire, a comment that was not only historicaly inaccurate(lead poisioning, strenghtening of the surrounding hun tribes, military weakness, and political infighting were to blame there), but it was just another burg highlight. i guess, as you say, it was just a joking comment, but as you yourself say, push a joke far enough, and it ceases being funny.
In any event, I wasn't addressing Christianity at all but the pigheadedness of 7s' post in question. If you go back and read through that thread, you'll see that at least one vocal Christian agreed with my point (at least that's what I understood), and when you questioned my reaction, and I explained myself, I got pretty much the same "you hate Christians" bullshit I'm getting now. I didn't stick around for the debate about biblical interpretation and word roots and what not. I honestly think you missed the whole point of the that thread.
So what else do you have? Prove up your big words or be a man and apologize.
And on that note, since we've gone this route, to actually make these posts ON TOPIC, may I recommend the book:
Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths, by Bruce S. Feiler
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...221042-3564930
It's about the meaning of Abraham in Judaism, Christianity and Islam and goes into detail about the similarities of the religions as well as some critical differences. It is NOT a religious book mind you, tho it is obviously about religions. It isn't pious or preachy in any regard. And it's balanced, with no bias.
And for the record, I am not religious, not believing in god, and had a strict religious upbringing and have a fairly critical viewpoint of Christianity, in many ways probably close to burgundy's. I don't make fun of Christians because I respect their lifestyle choice.
