Any real video game sports fans here?

I am a big sports fan and I have long enjoyed sports games. I mainly play hockey, football, and tennis in both real life and gaming.

Some of my favourite games have included the NHL2K sries, NHL Powerplay series, Sega's All Star Hockey series, Striker Pro 2000, Neo*Geo Cup 98 Plus Color, Worldwide Soccer series.... and I am really really looking forward towards the long awaited NA debut of Winning Eleven 6 next month!

I also like games like Virtua Tennis and Greatest Nine (Baseball Advance) and I'd definitely buy Beach Spikers if I had a GCN.

I really dig sports games myself. And if more people didn't have bad memories of being picked last every time in high school, I'm sure they could look past their distaste for sports and see that these are, at heart, games.

NBA 2K is basically a fighting game - positioning, special moves, combos in the form of a set offence. Except it's 4 player, and you can get normal people to play it with you :D

NFL games have as much strategy as you can ask for in a videogame, and they do take a ton of time to master. They really do make you appreciate the multi-tasking-under-pressure challenge a quarterback faces. But when you pull something off that totally outsmarts an opponent, it feels as good as anything you can pull off in Halo or whatever.

Of course, that said, I can't make myself spend hundreds of dollars each year updating every sports franchise, so I tend to buy them intermittently.

I love sports.. and i like some sports games..

Its really fun being kobe, in courtside.. and droping 50 on sactown... or being the dodgers, and beating the shit out of the yankees..

Sports game, let you live out your sport fantsies..

i love hockey......watch it on the sattelite, play it during the summer (goalie) but have yet to find any hockey games that remotely interest me. we all know how bad EA's games are and SEGA's...dont get me started. while an improvement over EA's brand they still got a long way to go.

im REALLY looking foreward to that MUSCLE wrestling game for the GC tho since i tend to enjoy that as well.

NBA2K3 is out on PS2 soon in Japan, i'm not a huge follower of the sport but so long as the framerate is ultra smooth and it plays well in multiplayer i'm interested. Should I buy it?

If you have friends over there who are into the sport, without question. Since the DC it's been one of the best multiplayer games going. As a one player game, the intensity's just not there unless you're really into the NBA. An 82 game season + playoffs would drag on a bit in almost sports game, I find. Especially since playing a decent game will take you 30-45 minutes (3 minute quarters are pretty lame).

I have no idea how people get into franchise modes, especially in baseball games. (2 full seasons is almost 400 games!)

NBA Street Vol. 2 does indeed look fantastic. I will be buying that right off the bat.

I love sports games...Even though I don't invest in them much. I probably by one or two every two years, simply because if a want basketball, football, etc. I'll go outside to play.

I buy the latest version of NFL Football every year. Since the Dreamcast, I've bought the NFL2K series every year, over EA's offering of Madden.


I really have'nt enjoyed a game of Major League Baseball, since the Saturn's World Series Baseball 98. Though the graphics suck, by today's standards, the gameplay is all there and I can't see why Sega does'nt make an updated version of this games play style.


The rest of the sports games, I just dabble in. I own 2 versions of Nascar (Nascar 98 - Saturn and Nascar Thunder 2003 - GC.), a couple of older golf games (Pebble Beach), several older NHL games (NHL98 - Saturn, NHL2K - DC.), Virtua Tennis 2k2 and Beach Spikers. I probably won't pick up another sports title, until the NFL pre-season starts.
