Just curious...
I hate sports with a passion. Especially ping pong, at the moment.
*wonders what this thread is doing here*
I'm a casual sports fan. Unless pro wrestling counts as a sport, which it SHOULD.:)
because I am asking if ppl like video game sports perhaps? ;)
Madden, NFL 2K2, Double Dribble - that sort of thing...
c'mon, that should've been a given.
/me edits title to be more specific and goes back to watching X2 trailer
Well, I would have thought you'd have said
"So who likes sports games?"
instead of
"Any real sports fans here?"
is all.
well some only have a passing interest now and then ;)
Thank heavens, redone topic title. I'm a casual gaming sports fan as well, I enjoy playing sports games rather than watching the actual sport on TV. That probably has something to do with me wanting to be somewhat involved in the actual sport, or just me finding the actual sport to be so dull and boring at a given time that I want to do something that reminds of when and why I found it enjoyable.
I'm a sports fan and a sports video gamer. I always get a baseball, football, basketball and hockey game every year, And I enjoy playing them...
I'm a big fan of both professional sports, and sports games.
I fucking hate Madden 2003, but I'm forcing myself to play it simply because everyone else here in the dorm is.
I love the 2K series however...
I'm a big baseball fan, but have little to no interest in any other sports (and no, Professional Wrestling does not count!)
As far as sports games, I have played a lot in the past, but nothing as of late. Earl Weaver Baseball from EA for the Amiga has to be on my top ten games of all time. I also enjoyed EA's 16 bit offerings for football and hockey on the Genny, along with some NES baseball offerings (Bases Loaded anyone :D) World Series 98 on the Saturn just plained ruled as well.
I'm looking to pick up one of the latest Baseball offerings this year to give each a shot, but where should I start? Between All Star, World Series and High Heat is what I'm thinking, but I'm curious which series is most realistic out of the three. Game Informer raves about All Star and I've heard others sing the praises of WSB and High Heat at times. Any recommendations?
I have had at least one football and hockey game every year since 1990 and several before that. Does that count?
I like sports games.
I enjoy well-developed sports games. The NBA 2k series is excellent, Madden is great, Tennis 2k2 was awesome, and there are tons of old school sports games that were the bomb. The only baseball game I've ever really liked, however, is the Baseball Simulator series which hasn't had a new game in a LONG, LONG time.
I wouldn't say i'm a huge fan but I play and enjoy the following: Winning Eleven, Power Smash, Beach Spikers and Virtua Striker.
I like watching sports more then playing Sports Video Games. But Multiplayer Hockey games are fantastic to play, just fantastic.
I love sports and sometimes even their video game counterparts. I can't wait for NBA Street Vol. 2
SC
Pro wrestling isn't a sport.Quote:

On point - I generally enjoy baseball games, as well as tennis and volleyball. I haven't bought a football, basketball or hockey title since the 16-bit era.
Boxing games are alright by me, as well.
Virtua Tennis/Tennis 2K2 are two of my all-time favorite games. I'm also a pro tennis fan, and play myself (though I'm not very good...yet). A bunch of friends & I get together at least once a month for 2K2 four-player fun, and have done so since the game's release.
I enjoyed the heck out of NBA Street and NBA2K1, and Hot Shots Golf 3 was one of my favorite games of last year. I also highly enjoyed WSB2K2, and am looking forward to 2K3 (old-school unis!). Beach Spikers was cool, but quickly got old for me, and the same goes for Soccer Slam.
Basically, I'll pick up a sports title if it's appealing. I'm doing "research" at the moment for a new NBA sim, but don't like the changes in 2K2 or 2K3, and Inside Drive feels funny.
I've never been interested in (American) football, in reality or simulated.
I will probably pick up Winning Eleven Six, based on reputation alone.
I dig sports games because the replay, for single- and multi-, is basically infinite: you never play the same game twice, if the game is well designed.
I like Joust. It's based on a real sport.
Seriously though, I play sports games on occasion. I tend to prefer the more arcade-ish ones like Tennis 2K2. I never watch sports in real life.
I am a big sports fan and I have long enjoyed sports games. I mainly play hockey, football, and tennis in both real life and gaming.
Some of my favourite games have included the NHL2K sries, NHL Powerplay series, Sega's All Star Hockey series, Striker Pro 2000, Neo*Geo Cup 98 Plus Color, Worldwide Soccer series.... and I am really really looking forward towards the long awaited NA debut of Winning Eleven 6 next month!
I also like games like Virtua Tennis and Greatest Nine (Baseball Advance) and I'd definitely buy Beach Spikers if I had a GCN.
Only if ballet and gay porn are sports too.Quote:

I really dig sports games myself. And if more people didn't have bad memories of being picked last every time in high school, I'm sure they could look past their distaste for sports and see that these are, at heart, games.
NBA 2K is basically a fighting game - positioning, special moves, combos in the form of a set offence. Except it's 4 player, and you can get normal people to play it with you :D
NFL games have as much strategy as you can ask for in a videogame, and they do take a ton of time to master. They really do make you appreciate the multi-tasking-under-pressure challenge a quarterback faces. But when you pull something off that totally outsmarts an opponent, it feels as good as anything you can pull off in Halo or whatever.
Of course, that said, I can't make myself spend hundreds of dollars each year updating every sports franchise, so I tend to buy them intermittently.
I love sports.. and i like some sports games..
Its really fun being kobe, in courtside.. and droping 50 on sactown... or being the dodgers, and beating the shit out of the yankees..
Sports game, let you live out your sport fantsies..
i love hockey......watch it on the sattelite, play it during the summer (goalie) but have yet to find any hockey games that remotely interest me. we all know how bad EA's games are and SEGA's...dont get me started. while an improvement over EA's brand they still got a long way to go.
im REALLY looking foreward to that MUSCLE wrestling game for the GC tho since i tend to enjoy that as well.
NBA2K3 is out on PS2 soon in Japan, i'm not a huge follower of the sport but so long as the framerate is ultra smooth and it plays well in multiplayer i'm interested. Should I buy it?
If you have friends over there who are into the sport, without question. Since the DC it's been one of the best multiplayer games going. As a one player game, the intensity's just not there unless you're really into the NBA. An 82 game season + playoffs would drag on a bit in almost sports game, I find. Especially since playing a decent game will take you 30-45 minutes (3 minute quarters are pretty lame).Quote:

I have no idea how people get into franchise modes, especially in baseball games. (2 full seasons is almost 400 games!)
Thanks :)
NBA Street Vol. 2 does indeed look fantastic. I will be buying that right off the bat.
I love sports games...Even though I don't invest in them much. I probably by one or two every two years, simply because if a want basketball, football, etc. I'll go outside to play.
I buy the latest version of NFL Football every year. Since the Dreamcast, I've bought the NFL2K series every year, over EA's offering of Madden.
I really have'nt enjoyed a game of Major League Baseball, since the Saturn's World Series Baseball 98. Though the graphics suck, by today's standards, the gameplay is all there and I can't see why Sega does'nt make an updated version of this games play style.
The rest of the sports games, I just dabble in. I own 2 versions of Nascar (Nascar 98 - Saturn and Nascar Thunder 2003 - GC.), a couple of older golf games (Pebble Beach), several older NHL games (NHL98 - Saturn, NHL2K - DC.), Virtua Tennis 2k2 and Beach Spikers. I probably won't pick up another sports title, until the NFL pre-season starts.
I like the fake sports games they used to make, like Double Dribble, Blades of Steel, Tecmo Bowl, and Ice Hockey. All these new "simulations" bore me to tears.
I'm a fan of sports games, though I've seriously cut down on the number of sports titles I'll buy. I currently own High Heat Baseball 2004 and NBA 2K3 (aside from a smattering DC sports games that I got cheap). However, with online play, I can see myself getting back into them. I'm dying for another NHL '94. Hell, I'll even take NHL '98. Gimme the loot! Gimmie the loot!
I'm not much of a sports game fan, but I really enjoy Neo Turf Masters and Taito's Hat Trick Hero S (Saturn). In HTHS, if you have the Super Shot enabled you can crush the goalie's guard and send him flying into the net with the ball... good as a desperation move to keep your winning streak alive if the time is running out and you're behind by one point. :sneak:
I like Footie and Rugby. That's really it. Oh, and Haialai (sp?).
I've only been into a couple series over the years, NBA2k and Virtua Tennis. Tennis 2k2 is my favorite sports game of all time. The four player mode is nearly unmatched in mutliplayer fun, and it's non-gamer and newbie friendly.
I'm a big sports gamer. Football, Soccer, Hockey, Baseball, I usually play them all every year a new one is released. I'd have to say right now though that Soccer, the Fifa series in general, is actually my fav sports game, it doesnt get boring nearly as fast as the others do.
And I think that even if Pro Wrestling is fake, the games are played as though its not, so it should be considered as being real sports games.
Apparently, TNL lets you live out your spelling and grammar fantasies.Quote:

I rmeember when sports game were simple.
you remember - Double Dribble, Blades of Steel, Based Loaded, Ice Hockey.
games weren't saturated with all the uber-realism they strive for today... ;)
I have the NBA package, and NBA Street2 is my second most anticipated game of March.
The only sport I watch with a passion is hockey. It's all about the New York Islanders. :D
Sports games I enjoy quite a bit. NBA 2K3, Madden 2003, Hot Shots Golf 3, and NHL 2002 are some of my favs. I'm planing on picking up NHL 2K3 this week.....I need a new hockey game, especially since NHL 2003 did nothing for me. :(
I love basketball.
Back in the day, NBA Jam was the biggest time-waster our SNES multi-tap had ever seen. -and Brutal Sports Football on Jaguar was one of my favorite games on the system (for whatever that's worth). Since I'm not too into mainstream sports, I tend to prefer the made-up or over-the-top stuff much better.
Also, I thought SSX was phenomenal, if that even counts.
Its football and basketball for me. I own NFL 2k3 and NBA 2k2 and they're pretty fun to play when friends come around. Plus a couple of my friends own some version of Madden on PS2, that's great to play when I visit their pads.
