An '84 Cavalier.
Though I usually drive Tron's '93 Volvo lately.
'99 Dodge Avenger.
What model Volvo is it, do you know? I've driven one before. Very, very nice cars. Very solid. The one I drove (S70, I believe) was mega quick, too. Nice acceleration.Quote:

I had a 98 Jetta GT and I loved it. But it was recently stolen. I am really angry that it was stolen, but on the other hand I feel like I am much better off not having a car. In fact the only thing that stopped me from selling my car before it happened was the factthat I loved my particular car.... However, now it's more convenient and better for my wallet and the enviornment to take mass transportation (the Métro stops 2 blocks from my flat). :)
'92 Mercurcy Sable
It's a car, and it takes me where I want to go. That's all I asked for. Paid $2,200 cash with taxes and such.
No car payments = :)
I have had a lot of cars, my first one didn't run very well :p
1969 Camaro
1967 Camaro RS (no back seat, no heat ether... but a 475HP big block :))
1989 Subaru XL-20
1986 Dodge Conquest Tsi
1986 Ford Mustang SVO
1989 Subaru XT-6 (my current one)
I have driven:
1986 Suzuki Samurai
1997 Suzuki Sidekick
1996 Toyota Corolla
2001 Toyota Rav 4
I currently own the Rav 4 and the Corolla... my girlfriend drives the Corolla.
We have 2:
I drive Toytota Corolla DX 97 - Pretty good car, with good gas/mileage, which is very helpful since I drive to/from clients alot.
My wife drives Toyota Corolla 2000, and she also likes it.
For next car, we probably will get either Honda Accord, or Camry. Or SUV, or Minivan :p
2002 Nissan Pathfinder LE. It gets me from point A to point B, and then some. :D
Don't do it... I am begging you.Quote:

I'm currently in the process of selling it... :( My first new car and I love it dearly.
But it's not very good to haul lumber/home repair crap in, nor does it have alot of room for the g/f and a 70 pound mutt.
Next ride will be either a '03 Honda CR-V, or Nissan Xterra...
Though I really want the S2000!
If you're talking about hauling things in a trailer, or whatever, you should get the Xterra. CR-V and Element are both powered by a 4 cylinder while the Xterra has 6 cylinder available.Quote:

If you're able to go the extra $5-10k, I highly recommend the Nissan Pathfinder. :D
97' Mitsubishi Eclipse GST - now
'95 Volkswagen Golf III - before
Originally I was looking for a V6, but after I re-evaluated my needs (including not buying a truck just to raise it and put big ass tires on it, for the off-roading I'll never do), I settled on a 4 cyl.
A 4 cyl with chunky tires and AWD (the crv) will still be great in the winter. Plus the stuff I'm hauling will easily be able to fit on a roof-rack or in the back.
We're also pretty crazy about gas mileage, so thats another reason I had to pass on the V6 (Montero). :(
Current: 2002 Saturn SL1
Past: 97 Saturn SL2
89 Chevy Spectrum
I'm still driving my graduation present, a blue/green '92 Saturn coupe with 150,000 miles.
I'm tempted to just drive it til the wheels fall off, but maybe come Spring I'll upgrade to one of those Dodge Stratuses (Strati?)
Now that I'm older, I feel the need for a roomier 4-door. :p
I liked the Stratus as well, but hated the 4 doors. Thus, the Dodge Avenger I own, which is sorta like a 2-door Stratus. I'm a sports coupe man myself.Quote:

I dont own a car.
However, my parents drive a 00 Chrysler LHS which is very nice to ride in the back in. And nice to drive too...but they are kind of cautious about me in it since I got the thing on 2 wheels that one time...
That's nothing. Years ago I used to drive a '78 Buick Regal I bought off of some old lady for $500. By the time I sent it to the junkyard...Quote:

Have you had any trouble with it, Dolemite?
KidNemo: Out of curiosity, why are you not considering the Honda Element? I've never been closer than 20 feet from one, but they seem like they'd be good considering you're talking about dogs...with how the floor is metal and you can essentially turn it into a van and all by lifting the seats up against the walls.

The Element was actually my first choice.Quote:

I have three issues with it though:
-It's a first generation vehicle, which can always be kinda iffy. Many times even during testing auto-manufactures can miss things that will be fixed in a 2nd generation model, which leads me to...
-The plastic flairing that surrounds the bottom half the car is very, very, very easy to scratch. Like you can scratch it with your fingernail. From reading some honda/element forums, it sounds like there might even end up being a recall its so poor.
-I went and checked one out in person. I love the way the look on the outside, the psuedo-japanese design is so sweet. But the inside is a bit to utilitarian for me. I want something that has a bit more comfort to it.
So uhm...yea. :)
I didn't realize there was so much wrong with them. Toyota's also coming out with a SUVan under their Scion label later this year. That might be worth looking into as well.

02 Civic Coupe, bought it myself, and it's a nice step up from my prevous car a 91 Chevrolet cavalier. For those who don't know chevrolet stands for Cheap Hardly Effcient Virtually Runs On Luck Every Time.
My next car will be a Civic Hybrid and I'll give my current one to my GF.
I got me a car..more like a hand me down
- '95 Ford Taurus GL
Such a piece of crap. I wanted to get me a Toyota or Honda car but do to my parents having to pay off a $60,000 loan (major house remodeling and buying a 2002 Honda Odyssey), I have to help them pay it off first, than get my own car. But hey, the Taurus has 4 wheels, a engine, and takes me places, I'm happy. But I cant be impressing the girls in a Taurus. Than again, I see guys in 80's car with poor paint jobs, rusts, dents, etc.
The cars we owned previously were..
- '81 Buick Regal
- '84 Buick Le Sabre (The Titanic)
I would have taken my aunts '96 Toyota Camry, but my younger cousin in Minnesota got to it first . Once the loan is paid off, I'll probably go down to FL and have one of my older cousins help me get a Honda Civic/Accord from one of her friends at the car dealer. Its a toss up between Honda Civic/Accord or Toyota Camry/Corolla. I would get the Nissan Altima/Maxima but I think it would be out of my price range at the moment.
Not at all, and I bought it new back in '99. Fast, confortable, and very reliable. It's a sweet ride.Quote:

its an awesome car. i don't drive much though as i don't have insurance. :/
I currently own a mint 1994 Buick Lesabre...
Loaded and is big, perfect for my small family...
Rides like a couch with wheels, and is great on gas mileage.
Not a "cool" car but I prefer a family luxery type car...
The GM V6 is a bullet proof engine that if you change your oil and do upkeep it is a guranteed 200 thousand plus mile engine.
My wife has the same car but a 1992 with 250 thousand and still trucking along....

Rick Has the torque converter lockout switch gone out on you yet. It's the part of your transmission that causes your gears to downshift when you decelarate. Every automatic 91 Cavalier (i've had 2 myself) I've ever heard of has had it go out, Just curious if yours has yet.
'89 jetta. i love my car. it's only got 80,000 miles on it. mmmmmm.....so many good times spent in that car. can't wait 'till summer starts so i can go on those long evening drives again.
1973 Dodge Challenger...Oh yes.....Oh yes.
And Dolemite, I'm impressed. You should also look into a song by Adam Sandler called "Peice of Shit Car", I think you can relate.

The Scion actually looks really cool in photos. Accept it's super tiny and is only like 94HP!
Looks like they're more going for the new car buyer who wants to 'rice' out their ride.
I just bought a '91 Mazda RX-7, in new condition with a new engine. Once I get some good speakers in there, life will be good.
My old cars...
A 1984 Honda Accord. Just recently died on me, I loved this car. Handled really well, and I rigged a surround system to work with the stereo. Yes, my car is a heap, but it's got Dolby Digital Surround sound! :D
Before that, a 1985 Subaru hatchback. Not a bad car for $300 dollars. It could drive from NC to NJ on 12 dollars... including a couple of cokes.
And my first car...
a...
YUGO!
That piece of shit didn't even have 50k miles on it before it died. The car was given to me, but I had probably a thousand dollars in repairs into it before the transmission blew up on me.

I drive a 1995 Ford Taurus GL. Beyond nice. My second choice in Focus would have been a ZX3 but I wanted the sedan size with low milage. I figured, I'll use it to haul friends around, go on vacation and get to E3.Quote:

I really like it. Plenty of room for a couple of friends, solid ride and acceleration. Plus it has been very reliable.

I'll have to live with the Taurus for a year or 2 . I might have to fix the dents and bumper just so it doesnt look like I'm driving a hoopty.
I might have to tint the windows so I wont be seen driving the piece of junk.
I wanted to get a newer Accord V6, but I can't afford a brand new car, and all the mid 90's ones that I found cost waaay too much and had 120k+ miles on them. D'oh.Quote:

Yes, Ford indeed are pieces of shit. My family bought a 2000 Ford Windstar, and in November the Transmission died... fucking Transmission dies on a three year old car... luckily the extended warranty had us only paying 600 dollars, but it's still unacceptable
We were gonna buy a Toyota Sienna, but they were sold out at the time, and we needed a car to drive to the beach that summer...
As for my personal car, I drive a 1990 Subaru Legacy Sedan w/ AWD
Had the engine and transmission replaced for under 2000 dollars when my brother drove to Erie (about 6 hours from home) when he knew the engine was dying, and the waterpump broke two weeks ago (but it was under warranty)
My brother is a jack-ass... he's the one who put the lame red decal on the hood... and although you can't see it in the picture, the antenna is bent into a kind of "W" shape, which he purposely did after replacing the one he accidentally bent on a bush or something... apparently it was his "signature"...
Damn, after 3 years? Mine is a '95 Taurus and its still running..knock on wood!Quote:

Toyota Sienna are nice as well. You should check into the Honda Odyssey. Its probably the hottest minivan on the market. We had to wait 2-4 months for ours since they were completely backordered. We got the 2002 version.
I'm thinking about fixing the dents on the car. When I have a chance I'll take some pics of the dents and you guys tell me if you would fix it.
I'm not 16 yet and I just got my learner's permit like 2 weeks ago. So November will rock once I finally can. But I want my sister's camry so I dont have to look for a car when I can just get hers.
Yea, people tend to pile the mileage on them. I am suprised though, that you couldn't find one for a reasonable price.Quote:

I am currently looking into either:
A 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 (If I wanted to spend the money for the 3.0 I would just get a Maxima)
2004 Dodge Stratus
or....
whatever used car that is decent and well priced and is sold at my dads dealership :/
Nothing as yet tho... I'm a weirdo. 22 years old and no car :/ The problem mainly stemed from some misfourtune involving my lack of credit and my parents hideious credit history. It'll be some time now till that's rectified, but now that I'm at least paid well I can manage to build some good credit as quickly as possible.
I would REALLY like a Nissan 350Z though, or even a used 300ZX.
ºTracer
I still have my 88 dodge shadow. :p
I just got a chev malibu last dec and it's great. I'm hoping by the end of the year, I'll have it paid off because insurance sucks and I don't want to give anyone extra incentive over my current payments.
but the dodge is my real baby. I'd hate to put her to rest and I think her time is pretty near. :(
I used to have a 78 Mustang. Didnt really run all that great, but damn did it look nice. Bought it from some old dude for $1,200 and it only had 70k miles on it. That got wrecked by an ass at the community college, running a stop sign.
After that I had a 4 Door 91 Saturn, ran it til it had nearly 200k miles on it, and decided to pick up my 2002 Cavalier.
Despair: Don't turn to the darkside, stay away from the minivans.
You don't see many Saab drivers, do you? And can someone explain to me the attraction of the Focus? I know someone with a yellow one and it's pretty underwhelming.
I'm rocking a '97 Rav 4. The battery died on me last week, but besides that, it's been rock solid. My insurance just got lowered and there are no more payments to make on it. I'm thinking of getting a new one after graduation, but I'm thinking of just running it into the ground. Keep it for a few more years anyway.
The attraction of the Focus is they are fun little cars to drive(untill they break down on you:Found On Road Dead) and are easy to modify, plus they are cheap.
Eh, if I wanted to modify the look or perfomance wise, I'll do it to a Civic or Accord..Yes, I know, "Rice" it.Quote:

People have their opinions, atleats you didn't pick the focus and as for the ricing thing, I prefer V8 muscle thank you very much.
The Focus hatch-back looks EXACTLY like a mini-windstar (Ford minivan) from all angles, and ANY focus looks exactly like a windstar from the front
I think the Focus is a little sharper (design line wise) than the Windstar but I can see where you're comming from.
93 Ford Explorer with bad paint and a good sound system.
current:
1989 nissan 240sx couple - excellent shape. i love rwd.
1986 volkswagen jetta gli - busted. the best handling fwd car i've ever driven.
i previously owned:
1984 audi 4000s quattro - awd is fun on dirt and in the snow. i traded this for the jetta.
1986 toyota corolla gt-s - this car was incredible. this car is slow, but boy could it drift. i .. crashed this one night while driving hard.
1988 honda civic dx sedan - hondas are shit. except the s2000. i gave this car away.
my Current car is 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and i freaking love it big time
my past cars were
1980 Chevy Camaro Z-28 with a rebuilt 350 V8 putting out like 300 - 350 horse
1986 Pontiac Firebird with a 305 and a 5 speed with some minor upgrades got an extra like 50 horse out of it and it had an after market racing suspension on it so the thing could handle turns like it was no ones buisness
1993 Dodge Intrepid ES for a big boat of a car the thing had alot of horse power and could move
I still own the camaro after an incident involving a dip in the road a large bump in that dip and my oil pan it was put out of commission but one day im gonna rebuild it
I'm pretty much set on getting a car once I graduate in a couple of months...not exactly sure which.
Most likely, it'll be a Volkswagen GTI 1.8T. The car's basically going to be a graduation gift from my mom, and my mom's been buying Volkswagens forever. The GTI's fast for that sort of car, but it's heavy and the steering (in other VWs, dunno about the GTI) is kind of numb. The quality of the car is pretty amazing, though - VW does an incredible job with interiors.
I'm also looking at the Mazdaspeed Protege. Weaker engine, but lighter. The interior would be worse, but eh. I've just heard really, really good things about the car's handling, the turbo on it is supposed to be pretty insane, and the factory stereo is pretty sweet: 450 watt, 250 watt subwoofer, a CD player that plays CDRs.
The other one, which I don't think I want, is the Dodge SRT4 - basically a Neon. However, it's a Neon with some absurd engine, like 225hp, 250ftlbs of torque, the thing does 0-60 in under 6 seconds and a 14 second quarter mile, which is crazy. I can't really see myself driving it, but the idea of buying an American car (in name) is appealing. Although, really, Ford owns Mazda, while the Germans own Dodge, so the Mazdaspeed is probably closer to an American car.
Don't buy a dodge... go with the VW
That's probably what's going to happen (but the Dodge's engine is so nice). I'm probably going to test drive the Mazdaspeed, and unless it bowls me over, I'll go with the GTI.

out of the three cars you listed, i'd go with the mazdaspeed protege. it has 10 or so less horsepower than the gti, but the gti is heavier, and it handles like a boat. i don't like the neon srt-4. the torque steer from a car that powerful would destroy any semblence of handling ability that neons used to have. sport compact car thinks the mazdaspeed protege is the best handling fwd car they've ever driven, even surpassing the integra type-r.Quote:

if you want creature comforts and a nice smooth ride, go with the golf. the golf has lost a lot of character since the a2 GTi days ['85-'92]. if you want lots of horsepower, stick with the neon. if you want a car with adequete horsepower and incredible handling, try out the protege. it's probably best to drive them all just to see what you prefer.

SHUT UP!
I miss my '80 Chevy Nova, driving that thing felt like you were behind the wheel of an over sized toy car!
I dunno, I've heard that the torque steer on the SRT-4 isn't that bad - I read the Sport Compact Car review of it last night.Quote:

if you want creature comforts and a nice smooth ride, go with the golf. the golf has lost a lot of character since the a2 GTi days ['85-'92]. if you want lots of horsepower, stick with the neon. if you want a car with adequete horsepower and incredible handling, try out the protege. it's probably best to drive them all just to see what you prefer.
I called up a Mazda dealership, and the prices they quoted on leases (my mom likes leasing for some reason) were weird as hell, like 30% higher than the GTI.
I'll see what happens, I guess.
I'd be buying the Mini Cooper S if there was any way to get a reasonable price on one...supply is still too low.
First car (which I dearly miss) was a '76 Dodge Aspen. Built like a tank (and drove like one too). Had to run the heater to keep it from overheating, no air ('cept the 55MPH kind), and the seats got hot as hell during the summer. A dump truck sideswiped me on the interstate one day, and I barely felt it.
Current car: 94 Cavalier. She's about gone. I'm not sure how you other Cavy owners have pushed them this long. Mine's got almost 120K on it, needs a new head gasket, needs a new alternator every 2 year...She's old.
I'm currently looking for a new car. The old standby would be a V6 Camry, but I'd rather get something else. I'd like a Forester or Outback, but I'm too tall to fit in them! My current fave after test drives is the new V6 Mazda6. I LOVE that car.
One thing I've noticed that surprises me, calling the customer service departments at various car dealerships, is how bad most of these people are at their jobs. Routinely brusque, none of them seem to know anything about the cars they're selling, no one responds as if actively interested in selling me a car, it's really quite terrible.
If I was the owner of one of these dealerships, and was calling to test the department, at least 5 out of the 6 people I've spoken to would've been fired based on the quality of service.

*** Actual stats on real car may be incredibly different from Gran Turismo version of car. ***
Got the rockin' stickers in the back.
I had a Mazda Millenia, which was okay. My mother's Honda blew up, so, I gave her my car.
Now I don't have one.
